HBO Go & HBO Now: Watch HBO Online for Free

August 17th 2017

Watch-HBO-Online

Have you ever wondered where one might watch any HBO show or series online for free? Your time has come, HBO fan!  Last year, HBO launched a new online program dedicated to making sure their subscribers were able to stream and watch any HBO show live at any time from nearly any online device. An “HBO to Go” service, if you will.  It’s called HBO Go and her sister app, HBO Now.  No, you aren’t hearing things. Full TV shows and movies are available to download right to your personal computing device at no additional cost to HBO cable subscribers!

HBO Go and HBO Now go beyond even what Comcast’s On Demand network offers in terms of full series download availability. You can watch an entire season of Curb Your Enthusiasm on your iPad on a long plane flight or rewatch Game of Thrones season 1 and all you need is the time to watch and an internet connection.   And it’s not just live TV shows, you can even download and watch HBO movies online via the HBO Go & Now networks.

Try DIRECTV NOW for Free and Add HBO for $5

This is actually the cheapest way to get HBO online that we know of. You subscribe to DIRECTV’s new service for about $35 which gives you tons of channels (almost all cable channels you could think of) and then for $5 more you can add HBO. Usually it’s about $15.  Give it a shot!  There’s a 7-Day free trial so it can’t hurt to give it a try.

UPDATE: DIRECTV NOW is offering a $25 per month discount on the service for anyone who has AT&T Unlimited (AT&T is the parent company of DIRECTV. They’re also throwing in HBO for free which is pretty amazing. This is the best deal in town, folks.

Live Stream HBO with Sling

Sling is an alternative to cable that gets you channels like ESPN, AMC and HGTV without a cable subscription just to name a few. It’s an app that you can use anywhere. HBO is an addon so if you’re Slinging already you can just add that to your package. You can sign up or explore the service more here. There’s a 7-Day free trial so this might be a nice alternative if you just want to give it a chance.

Watch Now Free for 7 Days with Sling

Imagine riding on a bus and wanting to watch a full episode of Game of Thrones online. Before HBO Go and HBO Now, you’d most likely have to grab a torrent or get the digital version of the show by some other, less-legal method.  Maybe you’re even desperate enough to check your local grocery store’s Redbox.  But now, if you’re a current subscriber to HBO you can get those shows on the go absolutely free. Some of the programs even come with special features not available on television. Exclusive interactive features were recently deployed with the new season of Game of Thrones that are only available online. Personally, I end up watching most HBO programming on my home entertainment system but having HBO Go as a supplement for travel is a welcome addition and some people have no choice but to watch HBO shows online due to their busy schedules.

The Difference Between HBO Go & HBO Now

HBO Go and HBO Now are basically two sides of the same coin. Both offer access to all previous seasons of all HBO series. They both offer access to HBO’s library of movies and documentaries.  Both are available as apps on your favorite devices.  The difference lies in how you subscribe to these services.  With HBO Go, you’re getting access to the app via a normal cable subscription.  So if you’re a Comcast customer you’ll log into HBO Go with your Comcast credentials.  HBO Now is a bit different.  You don’t need a cable subscription at all!  You can just sign up online and start watching HBO right then and there.  Each one has it’s advantages but you’re not missing out by using either one.  They’re both essentially the same app and content but with different ways of subscribing to HBO.

*If you know of other ways to view HBO online please leave us a comment below and we’ll add it to our list.

It’s been a long road towards getting HBO Now.  Watching HBO online for free will probably never be possible but being able to do so without cable is essential to HBO’s future. We’ve been advocating such a change for a while now in our various articles but for now, HBO can’t seem to shake some of the deals the currently have with cable operators. They were most likely afraid of losing the business they already generate for them– their bread and butter if you will. HBO does sometimes offer premieres of new series online free to even non-subscribers such as they did with Girls and Veep recently. We hope this starts a trend that shows the Time-Warner owned cable company that people want online access to their programming.

Stream-Series-HBO-Free

HBO Go has evolved into a product (HBO Now) that anyone, anywhere can subscribe to for access to downloads of Game of Thrones, True Blood, True Detective, Girls, Westworld, Curb, HBO Docs even HBO’s latest: The Leftovers and all of their other hit series including Boxing events.  We know that a subscription can cost up to 25 dollars per month but when you think about the access you get to past shows it might just be worth it and you can always try HBO Now for free!

HBO Go and HBO Now Password Sharing

One possible option for “free HBO” is to simply share a paid password with someone you love. HBO has said that they don’t really mind if passwords are shared but that doesn’t mean they won’t crack down on this some time in the future if it gets out of hand. HBO wants to build addicts and if using your grandparents HBO Go login creates an addict out of you they assume you’ll subscribe to watch more Game of Thrones online some time in the future.

So if you’re down on your luck and need some HBO goodness for free then don’t feel too poorly about yourself if you need to borrow an HBO Go subscription from a family member or friend.  Or try the free trial of HBO Now for a while.

Buying HBO Stand-Alone Online

HBO Now has finally arrived!  This is the wave of the future of television. Are you on board? HBO Go will probably always remain tied to cable subscriptions while HBO Now will be your way of accessing HBO if you don’t have a cable package. Check it out now if you’re looking for a more stand-alone product from HBO.

Older HBO Shows are Streaming on Amazon Prime

If you’re an Amazon Prime member and you’re trying to watch an older HBO show like The Sopranos or Sex and the City stop what you’re doing and head over there now because older HBO shows stream free with a Prime subscription. You get a free month when you sign up so there’s really no excuse not to when you factor in the free shipping on Amazon stuff as well as the large streaming video library. Give it a try.

Other Ways to Live Stream HBO Content

We know there are some live HBO streams out there as well but those are obviously completely unauthorized and are usually low resolution.  You don’t want to experience Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire on an unofficial, non-HD streaming site surrounded by crazy, russian-bride ads do you? What about Real Time with Bill Maher, Animals or Vice? You don’t want to taint that experience.

One of the more common ways to use HBO Go is through a video game console such as Microsoft’s Xbox, a Sony Playstation.  Many are hoping that HBO will release an app for their particular device of choice so that they too can watch HBO online.  HBO is trying hard to create apps for the myriad devices out there but they’re just not all available right now.  Stay tuned for more news on how you can get HBO streaming online in your home with current and upcoming devices. HBO Now should come to PS4 and Xbox soon as well.

HBO Go and HBO Now are the perfect way to watch HBO shows like Vinyl online for free in this brave new digital world. HBO is leading the way with this so-called Netflix-killer app that is taking the world by storm. Head over to HBOGo.com to register your HBO subscription today and start watching all of your favorite movies and series online now!  Or if you prefer, HBONow.com is the way to go if you don’t have cable.

See?  It’s pretty easy to watch Game of Thrones online with HBO Go or Now and a Roku. Take it from Bran Stark: online streaming expert.  All you need is a subscription.

Personally, I end up watching most HBO programming on my home entertainment system but having HBO Go as a supplement for travel is a welcome addition and some people have no choice but to watch HBO shows online due to their busy schedules.

UPDATE 2: Comcast has announced a package where, without signing up for cable you can get HBO Go, High Speed Internet and Access to Streampix for $40.  While this isn’t the full streaming online HBO standalone package we’ve all been waiting for it is a step in the right direction.  New series like Silicon Valley will, of course be available for all to watch.  Hit that link above for more information on how you can watch HBO online without having to sign up for a full, traditional cable plan.  In a related update the service is now also available through a similar bundle with Time Warner Cable.

UPDATE 3: HBO programming is now available on Amazon Prime as of May 21, 2014! Read all about it but just know that it’s only older programs (about three years old or so) and not live, current seasons of HBO shows.  Just one more way to watch HBO online and you don’t even need cable or an HBO subscription; just Amazon Prime.

UPDATE 4: AT&T is offering a package for watching HBO online without a cable subscription. $39 for high-speed internet, HBO access and Amazon Prime!  Looks like the best deal in town right now for cord-cutters.

UPDATE 5: In what is probably the biggest HBO news in the past 5 years the network has decided to make HBO Go available, stand-alone as many of us wanted, to the public sometime in 2015!  We’ll continue to keep track of which countries the service is available in. We’ll also keep the list below of app current so you know how to use your shiny new HBO Go subscription.  Check out the story for more details.

UPDATE 6: HBO Now is here!

I personally prefer VPN to watch Blocked content.

  2. HBO makes it so fucking complicated to watch online even when you have a cable subscription. Such a crapulent corporation.

  3. Holy shit I want one option or two options this HBO GO HBO NOW shit is maddening and stupid. Let’s think of closely related ambiguous names…. GO – oh okay that’s a good one. NOW… Even better. Lol wtf.

  4. wont let me watch the video

  5. randallstarr /

“Full TV shows and movies are available to download right to your personal computing device at no additional cost to HBO cable subscribers!” How is that free? How the fuck is that free, douchebags? Read your headline again, then fuck off.

  6. Zotta /

I mean we wanted to see it via Bill Maher and one or both of us has to be away. Oh well.

  7. Zotta /

I don’t think it’s gonna work to bring an XBox to our overnight hotel to watch the first night of the GOP convention. We are screwed on that one. XBox to stream? Why?

  8. Ashley Watson /

If you have an hbo go can you use the same log in to use hbo now?

  9. nancypo /

I have a brand new Roku stick and after multiple tries, calls to Roku, troubleshooting, HBO NOW WILL STILL NOT STREAM CORRECTLY. I was wanting to do the 1 month free and then subscribe but it’s not working. You guys should fix this glitch!!! Very disappointed and angry. I have excellent internet and EVERYTHING ELSE STREAMS FINE. Not my problem. I did all the troubleshooting on both their website multiples times. I do tech support ans this is a poor product and poor customer service. I will just rent the DVDs, very reliable.

  10. eric /

i live in canada and have an hbo subscription i am using a windows 10 pc how do i stream game of thrones

    • Eleonora Iafano /

I honestly don’t know how to answer that question. I don’t think you can stream Game of Thrones? All I know is you can either purchase the seasons in their entirety on DVDs or subscribe to HBO Go. But I do not have the information you require. Sorry about that.

  11. Brian Rewis /

I signed up for HBO Now, but I am more than a little disappointed that you cannot watch GOT live.

  12. DawnMarie /

How about either make a damn Playstation app for hbo now or make it interchangeable with Go because I’m sick and tired of paying for a service i can only use in one room

  13. John Console /

Cracks me up with so many people who are complaining about a streaming service when the problem is with their shitty internet connection.

    • Jeff Friedlander /

I would have to disagree. A lot of low ratings on amazon.com. 2000+ reviews and more than half of them are 1-2 stars for HBO Now because of internet issues. I couldn’t even figure out how to install it because its so poorly organized. I want to watch it on my xbox but it keeps trying to download to my phone. That is kind of counterintuitive since I first applied for it on my xbox and am not provided with the option to install from there. I havent personally tried the service but based on the prevailing opinion and my poor experience with HBO NOw installation, I prefer to add it to my cable subscription. It only costs a little more but is much less of a hassle.

  14. Pasha /

I contacted their customer service because their streaming constantly was buffering and pixelated. I had mentioned that I read their suggested article on trouble shooting and found it to be unhelpful, because I have never had a problem with streaming amazon video or netflix in the same high definition qualities. I received a response in the form of the same article that I articulated was not helpful. Extremely disappointed in their poor streaming service and even poorer customer service. There are plenty of “free” streaming sites that have their content, and I am happy to no longer financially support a business that is this incompetent.

  15. Jordan Mcniven /

Im in Australia, looking into getting Hbo. Now i have an Xbox 1 and a Desktop Mac and none of the fancy ipad crap or tablets. I just want to stream on my mac or xbox. My Question is can i with the limitations i may have?

  16. Jacob Miller /

I have an IPad Air and Dish as my cable provider, it keeps on giving me an authentication error when I try and sign in from my IPad, it works fine on my Windows 8 laptop

    • roberta /

      try uninstalling and reinstalling

      • Jacob Miller /

I did that about 12 times and it still doesn’t work, I even tried it on my S6 and the same thing happens

        • Jacob Miller /

I got it to work, I contacted dish and they reset something on my account and now I’m able to log in

          Thanks for the help guys

On Surface with windows 8.1 you will need to use a browser other than IE. It appears as though there is an issue that prevents logging in. Try Firefox or chrome. Even with Firefox video stops several times per minute to buffer. HBO needs to create a dedicated Windows App. or stop using Adobe Flash.

  17. Johndoe /

So why wasn’t my question approved here? Seriously…

  18. james /

can you get HBO now or HBO go in the uk?

  19. Mary Lu Oliva Hunt /

We are discontinuing our Charter TV subscription soon because we simply don’t watch the line-up of programs. Can we still stream HBO without Charter? We have an Apple TV device?

  20. michael12 /

Can you get hbo go on RCN in Pennsylvania?

  21. populargamess /

One of my friends show me a method to download hbo go to YouTube at allavsoft.

    After
have a try, i find it really works great. Now i can easilly files to
    download hbo go.

Hope it also helps for you.

    • Patrick /

Oooh, Will this help me download the internet to Twitter as well?

Please elaborate as it sounds like you’re speaking robot.

  22. Ben the Cable Guy /

For the past few days, I haven’t been able to log onto HBO Go. When I sign in with my Time Warner account, it takes me back to the HBO Go page without logging me in. The android app works fine for me, it’s just the website that won’t work for me (Other network websites work fine).

I’ve contacted Time Warner about it and they told me to contact HBO, I contacted HBO and they have yet to give me a response; does anyone know what is going on?

  23. marksf /

I am signed up for HBO Now, and I think it’s awesome HBO is moving in this direction. However, even as a member of HBO Now, torrenting may still still be preferable, due to unreliable internet connection speed, and not being able to watch offline (while commuting on subway, etc).

I hope HBO, Netflix, etc. wake up to the fact that “streaming” services are not such a great idea because of these issues, and they really need to offer pre-downloads for offline viewing.

  24. Leigh Higg /

I have a VIZIO smart tv and cannot get HBO GO. I looked and read something that VIZIO said it was something their end and they are working on creating an app for it to work. Can anyone help me out? I am hearing about all these great shows but cannot watch b/c of my TV. please help :)

    thank you,
    Leigh Anne

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

I can’t tell you when the app will come out but in the meantime, you could probably get a Chromecast from Walmart or Amazon quite cheaply and cast it onto your TV from there, then just sell it when the app does come out.

  25. Ben the Cable Guy /

For anyone who can’t get HBO Now as they don’t have a compatible device, try downloading Bluestacks (Android emulator) and sign up through there

  26. Corrina /

My hbo go app on my android only has a few show available to watch. How do i view all from my phone?

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

Have you tried reinstalling the app?

      • Corrina /

Yes, it does not give me the option to view multiple shows, only top 6 or 7 that HBO is featuring. I even went online and added my shows to the watch lish and still showing up on my android

  27. foxmolder /

I’m so so confused. Can someone please let me know if I can use HBO GO on my Windows 7 laptop without using another device in the process? I’ve searched Google and everything that pops up is outdated and no longer useful information.

Alternatively, if I have access to a Kindle (not a new one) can I sign up using it and then stream on my laptop, without having to use the Kindle anymore?

I feel like HBO really fumbled this. I literally cannot find out, anywhere on the HBOGO site let alone the entire rest of the internet, if it’s possible to purchase and stream HBO GO from a laptop or PC. It’s a bit of a problem for interested would-be customers.

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

All you need to do is log in through your cable provider, unless you’re talking about HBO Now which you have to purchase through Apple or Android which is pretty stupid of HBO in my opinion.

      • foxmolder /

Yeah I meant Now, not Go. HBO sucks at this. Evidently it’s because instead of providing NOW themselves, HBO is using this absurd outside-provider model, and I guess no provider has decided it’s worthwhile to let people sign-up unless they get to sell them (or have already recently sold them) an overpriced smart-phone or e-reader or some other piece of ‘smart’ technology in the process. Amazon is offering the service now, but, of course, you need a Kindle.

        • Jeff Friedlander /

Thanks for clarifying. I have the same problem. I just want to watch Game of THrones on my xbox one. HBO Now bait and switched me for a chunk of my free time. They suck.

  28. John Christen /

If you subscribe to this can you use it on anything or only the item you subscribed to it with?

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

You can use it on any compatible device from what I know.

    • foxmolder /

HBO NOW will run on anything. The subscription process is basically just a pay-wall used by the various providers (Apple, Amazon, Verizon ect). I’ve read that after you sign-up you can watch it on any PC/Laptop, but I wouldn’t count on not having to return back to your subscribed device for some absurd update or renewal process or some other nonsense.

      • I have a data cap of 300gb through Comcast. If I log in on a device outside my home using a separate internet connection, will it still use my data (since I logged in through my account)?

  29. Hannah Beeb /

I have a Samsung Smart TV. I was able to sync my Ipad to Samsung Smart TV until March 2015. After the Samsung update in late March 2015, I cannot sync my ipad (Apple Device) to Samsung Smart TV. I called customer service support & was told that Samsung Smart TV does not support any Apple device. I think Apple sued & won a lawsuit against Samsung in early 2015? The Samsung customer service Rep said that the Samsung Smart TV does not support HBO NOW. The Samsung Smart TV March 2015 update adversely impacted my ability to connect to Amazon Prime Subscription & Netflix. I was unaware of the Samsung Smart TV UpDate until I called Samsung customer support. It took me several phone calls & a couple of hours to reformat my Samsung Smart TV in order to get adequate internet connection. I wish I had purchased a different brand of Smart TV. Not happy with Samsung.

I am watching HBO GO from outside USA with the help of a VPN which I Choose from @VpnRanks.

Never mind, I worked it out.

Apparently you have to make an account on HBO Go and link it to your cable account, now I shall let the binge watching of GoT begin!

  32. Randal Kottwitz /

I subscribe to HBO through Glenwood Communications in southern Nebraska. It’s aggravating enough that I pay so much money for standard definition on a premium digital fiber optic cable system, but now, just to add insult to injury, I’ve found out that I can’t get HBO GO because Glenwood doesn’t support it. So much for HBO’s claim that HBO GO is free with your cable subscription to HBO. Obviously, some exceptions apply. I wanted to show my family Angels In America last night, and after a lot of introduction and getting everyone excited, I found out we can’t get HBO GO here in the hinterlands when I hit the “Play” button on my AppleTV. I’m a VERY unhappy camper.

  33. Fran /

You cannot use HBO Go with an antenna, you must be talking about HBO Now

  35. JAy Wo /

I got my HBONow through I tunes. I have had for a few weeks and it has been working fine. The last few days when trying to watch GOT I get an error message saying that it can not download content on AppleTV. What causes this?

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

      • JAy Wo /

Yes, I did, shortly after posting and that worked. Thanks.

When is hbo now Gona be available for ps4

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

Sony have announced that HBO Now will be available for Playstations later on in the year. In the meantime, why not consider Sling TV? It’s the same as HBO Go/Now but with the live HBO channel too.

      • Msity /

That would be great but sling isn’t available for PS 3 or 4!?!!

  37. Sharon /

Can you get this on the regular Wii console?? When I google it up there’s a page that says yes but here it says no for Wii U and I just have the plain one…

  38. Lisa /

I have Charter Cable for Internet and Amazon Prime; and through Charter, I have HBO. When you go to activate HBO for prime it doesn’t list Charter as a provider. I call Charter, they said it is listed even though it’s not and they say to call HBO which is quite impossible since I can find no number for HBOtogo. HORRIBLE customer support!

    • Jef Dinsmore /

I don’t know what the confusion is about. Charter is listed in the pull down menu of providers. It is the sixth one listed in the C’s in the list.

You must first have a logon in account with Charter before HBOGo can recognize you as a Charter subscriber.

Paying for Wifi on a flight is a pain – is there a way I can watch a show off of HBO Go without Wifi?

    • This is a really great suggestion but I don’t think any HBO product supports it right now. The only thing you could really do is cough up the 5-10$ for a few episodes on Amazon or iTunes and download them.

Wish they’d have a “Save for Offline” feature like Spotify but it is much harder to do with 2GB movies and such.

    • Jeba Ti /

Download the shows you want from your computer then transfer the shows to your phone. That way you do not use any data and still get your enjoyment while your going anywhere. I have a Samsung Galaxy 5S mini and I just put my movies on there and I have no issues. Hopefully this helps?

  40. Holly /

The hbo go website is BLANK.
I have Uverse AT&T — how do I sign into HBO GO?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

I don’t know about you, but the Internet in my neck of the woods is very sluggish this evening. It took an effort for HBOGo to completely load for me, but it did. I even selected your provider link and got it to come up also.

If all sites for you are slow than maybe atmospheric issues are to blame tonight. Try it again.

    • Ben the Wicked Fly Cable Guy /

      1. Go to the HBO Go website
      2. Click on Sign in
      3. Find AT&T Uverse in the list of providers
      4. Sign in with your AT&T Uverse account credentials
      5. Providing that you’re subscribed to HBO on AT&T Uverse (Which to my understanding is the U450 package), the HBO Go site will load and you will be able to watch your favorite HBO series online at no extra cost

will it show the live boxing on saturday nights? Glolovkin on HBO NOW?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

We haven’t had anyone who has HBONow around here confirm that yet. Sorry.

  42. jewls /

I can hook my visio tv up to my Ipad and watch net flix but when I do the same with hbo now the pic goes black…the sound still comes through but no pic…any thoughts?

  43. Boynao /

Is it going to available fight for Mayweather and Macquio????

  44. REAL TALK. NO FEAR /

Can I pay to live stream the May Pac fight online ?

  45. When I try to sign in to my account on my desktop it goes to the HBO NOW home page without signing me in, I have tried many times. Any thoughts?

  46. Frank Schapitl /

When will the offer of the free trial month end?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

The HBONow site has just posted that the offer expires this Thursday, April 30. Check out order.hbonow.com

  47. Cyrrena Rubio /

Can I order the fight through the app

    • Jef Dinsmore /

We are assuming you mean the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight? Sorry, but the answer is No.

  48. aneth✨ /

How do I cancel my account?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

You want to cancel your account to HBONow? I believe you should have your first month free. So, just don’t pay the $14.99 when the free month expires.

  49. Daniel Bonilla /

if you create a HBO Now account, can that info or account be transferred over to an HBO Go account so that i could watch hbo shows through my xbox? i do not have cable

    • Jef Dinsmore /

No. HBOGo is exclusive to those who have HBO through a cable or satellite provider.

  50. Mjweaver /

I have had an HBO subscription for 20+ years on a local
cable service (TDS). When I try to log on, it says TDS TV subscription does not include HBO. When I called, they said I don’t get HBO GO because I have cable. Should I, or should I not, have access to HBO GO free since I subscribe to HBO? And if so, how do I go about getting it.

    • Jef Dinsmore /

I am obviously and clearly not tech savvy, but I can say this, you have to create a username and password with your cable provider first. Then when you go to HBOGo you need to look up your cable provider.

If you cannot find your provider in the listing then HBO does not support it., Never mind, I looked and TDS is listed! HBOGO will search TDS for your log-on information to verify that you are a subscriber. If all that fails call the 800 number for TDS to inquire further.

That’s the best I can offer.

  51. Box Fan /

Can you watch live (as it’s happening) boxing on HBO Now?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

If you are talking PPV events the answer is surely no; If you are talking HBO BOXING and B.A.D. bouts I doubt that you can see those either. They are not offered on HBOGo so I doubt they are going to be on HBONow. At least not yet.

      • Wrong. Boxing is added to both HBO GO AND HBO NOW a few days after it airs. The only way to watch HBO nonPPV boxing is Sling TV

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

You can get live boxing exclusively on HBO the minute it airs with no contract through Sling TV.

Other than that, you’re out of luck

  52. Conscience Quin /

Okay first I’m sorry if this has been asked already but I’m still a little confused. I own no Apple products but my kid does (more tech savvy than me). Can I watch current live GOT via my kids’ iPad (iTunes account) with out a cable subscription? I only pay for Direct TV for GOT so it kind of a waste the rest of the year to keep cable.

    • The Apple restriction is just for the signup. Once you sign up you can view from any browser. Apps for Android and other devices will be released later this year. We don’t know when yet.

  53. Tammy Santana /

I have a Vizio smart tv, and a Sony blue ray player with wi fi. Is this compatable with HBO go?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

      Yes, it should be.

    • It’s not clear why he said it should be. HBO GO is an app on your smartphone or other streaming devices, or via a website on your computer: hbogo.com. So if your Vizio doesn’t come with the HBO GO app–it likely doesn’t–then you can’t watch it directly. You can of course watch anything that you can connect to your TV. So your Vizio is compatible if you mean can you connect your laptop, or smartphone, or some other device to your it via HDMI. But that has nothing to do with your Vizio. You can’t play HBO GO on your BluRay player. It’s not on a BluRay! You can watch old Game of Thrones episodes on your BluRay player if you buy the series on BluRay discs. People should really clarify, especially if someone is crazy enough to buy something based on random Internet advice.

  54. beautiful soul /

Question…can you watch PPV on hbo go?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

No, we are sorry but HBO PPV events are not accessible on HBOGo or HBONow.

  55. ba ha ha /

My family of like 5 all share the same password…haha maybe I should start selling it?

  56. justin /

So the only way i can watch GOT on my xb1 is with a cable subscription

  57. Danielle Gooding /

I am traveling and am staying in a hotel that doesn’t have HBO! I have HBO Go, can I watch GOT tonight live? That’s all I care about right now.

    • Jef Dinsmore /

Well, evidently the hotel room has WiFi so yes at 9:00pm ET get yourself settled in, put some coins in the vibrating bed, and sign in to HBOGo.

    • ba ha ha /

Read through the lines….make an educated decision

  58. Giorgi /

    uhhh… now I am feeling lost…
    People, I have a normal PC with internet… which one should I choose/install/purchase ????????

    • HBO NOW. The first 30 days are free then you are charged by a month-by-month basis for a $14.99 fee

      • I was not able to register without an apple device. So register by downloading the HBO NOW app on your apple device…then you can watch HBO NOW on your non apple PC.
        Sign in page: https://order.hbonow.com/

    • splinched22 /

So. Here’s the skinny. You have to register and sign up for HBONow on an apple device, iphone, ipad, mac. You have to have an itunes account and start your HBONow service from that device. BUT, once you’re signed up you can go to hbonow.com, signin and use any old PC provided it fits these parameters:

“You need a laptop or desktop computer running either Mac OS X version 10.6 or later, or Microsoft Windows Vista or later. In addition, you’ll need one of the following support browsers updated to at least the version shown:

      Internet Explorer 10

      Safari 7

      Chrome 37

      Firefox 31”

    An open letter to HBO:

    Dear HBO,

I would murder a family of four to purchase HBO-Go without buying cable. You are all I want. I know I’ve committed the cardinal sin of not owning any Apple products, but I beg that you find the will to forgive me. Can you please just let me pay a monthly fee to fucking watch Game of Thrones? Pick the price. You make it impossible to support the show without bending over for a d-bag cable provider.

    With resentment and tears,

    A GOT Fan

    • HBO NOW FURTHER EXPLAINED:
I just purchased HBO Now. (You can purchase the program by visiting their website from your computer or mobile device)
HBO NOW Sign up page: https://www.hbonow.com/

The first 30 days are included free, then there is a monthly charge of $14.99, (you can cancel at any time).

      HBO
Now is great I just re-watched a couple of GoT Season 4 episodes and
I’m pumped for Season 5 tomorrow. You can watch all of HBOs content on
ANY computer, (Doesnt have to be by Apple- just sign into HBO NOW online
and you can begin watching). Or if your an Apple lover, then go ahead
and download the app on your Apple TV, iPhone 5 or iPhone 6 or iPhone 6
Plus and iPad. I also believe that there is compatibly for Xbox.

      Though
there is one thing I’m confused about…how long is the wait till we
get GoT Season 5 Episode 1 on HBO NOW. I’m going to check back with HBO,
but I believe that it will be available the same day it’s available for
HBO Go. So you essentially just have to wait 1 extra day.

    • Forgot to mention that inorder to register through HBO NOW you must have an apple device. Then after registering you can access HBO NOW via web on any computer

      • splinched22 /

Well hot damn you’re right. I am now a HBONow subscriber, thanks to a friend who doesn’t mind me using their itunes account. At long last, I can support the show without paying cable premiums. Thank you so much for the tip!

  60. Elle /

I am a bit perplexed how hard this is. So HBONow can only be watched through Apple TV and the app on the iPad. So how can I watch HBONow on my iPad when I travel, if my husband set it up on his computer, through his ITunes. How can I watch on my iPad without signing in on his account and deleting my iTunes account and all the data? I should be able to watch on the HBONow website by signing in with email and password. It should not be tied to one computer only. It should be for the whole family. Is it, or not, am I missing something here???

    • Elle I was easily able to sign on to two separate computers for the HBO NOW via web. HBO NOW is not tied to indivudal computers. His login information may be stored onto his computer which are cookies, but besides for that NO, there are no ties. Thank The Lord!
HBO Now is available by Apple Products, computers, and I believe the Xbox.

For iTunes, I don’t believe that you will lose all your data if you sign out. Though I may be mistaken and by data I assume your speaking of music streamed over the air, without the need of downloading it on your device.
I always sign in and out of accounts in my family…no issues there.

      • Also I forgot to mention that ITunes does not play a role when you are signing into HBO NOW via web.
I’m currently signed into HBO NOW with my Windows Computer :)

        • My mistake you must register through an Apple device, then after registering you can access HBO NOW anywhere

  61. Carrie /

I have HBO NOW and I want to watch GoT on Sunday. Will I be able to see it live, or will there be a delay?

    • I believe that it will be scheduled to be aired the same time as HBO GO. So yes there is a 1 day wait.

      • I may be wrong though with the 1 day wait. SO HYPED FOR SEASON 5!

  62. Shadow Diver /

Live in Mexico. Says it works in Mexico. Let me sign up. Will not load any program. All I get are feed error messages.

    • Try to wipe your cookies and browsing data clean on your computer. It may help. If not, then contact HBO via Phone

  63. burstallcross /

I must be the only person who finds that HBO NOW is a tech disaster. Went to iTunes; downloaded the app; clicked on the app to register; nothing. Repeat 27 times. Look everywhere for answers, no help. Apple says will contact me within 48 hours by email. I’ve deleted the app, re-downloaded it, gone to HBO now’s site, spent hours on iTunes – this is ridiculous and not well thought out at all!!!! No screen ever appears on which I CAN register.

    • same experience. ridiculous. And also running through iTunes it is impossible to share in family…

      • I registered simply by typing in HBO NOW on my iPhone 5s. I clicked free trial, gave them my email, scanned my thumb and DONE in under 30 seconds! No need to download it from your computer. Just do it directly off of your phone…or do it online. Worst case scenario- Contact HBO and sign up by phone

  64. elena /

hello do u know how can i watch HBO GO for free in Europe??

  65. bfarahnik /

Will I be able to watch live TV on HBOgo? Example: This Sunday at 9pm is the new Game of Thrones. Can I watch it live on the app as its being shown on TV HBO?

    • No there is a wait. HBO has not yet announced the arrival. What is aired on TV is not on HBO GO, we may have to wait a day or so

  66. maintenance man /

I am not happy that it was offered through Apple devices only. Apple sucks. They should have opened HBO Now through all devices. Android is best!

    • IT’S NOT! You can sign up from your computer and watch HBO on ANY computer. I’m Currently watching GoT on my Fujitsu :)

      • My mistake, you must register through an Apple device…Then you can access HBO NOW on any non apple computer without ITunes

    • bcrew5 /

You can also pay for HBO ala cart through SlingTV. And the Apple exclusivity will only be for 3 months then it will head over to the more common avenues such as Roku.

  67. JJ Mac /

HBO on the go but not in Ecuador???

  68. JJ Mac /

we watch HBO in Ecuador and are very pissed off because we no longer receive Real Time, this is our highlight of the week,

  69. Chris Hawk /

Is wifi required to watch on mobile devices or can one use their data plane via their mobile phone provider?

  70. Mr. Right /

And also to answer your question about HBOGO, it only works if you have subscription with a cable provider in US…

  71. Mr. Right /

I am in India and would like to update my apple tv to US as well. How do you change the DNS setting that you seem to have done successfully?

  72. I have comcast. I also have chromecast and roku it says comcast does not allow it. Do you know if this will change. Should I drop hbo on comcast and Get it on iPad with the new service.

  73. Devashish /

Will HBO go continue after the launch of HBO now or will HBO start charging for online streaming completely.

    • Jef Dinsmore /

yes, it will still be available for those who will get HBO through their provider.

  74. Anyone know why chapter 2 of The Jinx is not on demand?

  75. What is going in with HBO Go and XBox? The HBO Go app has not been working for more than 5 days.

  76. Is it possible to pay for the HBO now service? I don’t own apple products, but be able to access content from the HBO go app from my ps4?

  77. It says you can watch LIVE but I haven’t found out how. I can sign on and watch anything that has been aired but can’t find the “button” to watch anything live. Every time I google it, I can redirected here.

    • Randa6 /

Did you find it? I am looking too! I used to be able to enter my email address and choose my service provider but now I can’t find where to sign in.

      • Jef Dinsmore /

Can we help you with something?

        • Steve-in-NY /

Yes. Using HBO Go, how do you watch a show LIVE? I mean if a new episode broadcasts for the first time at, say, 9pm on Sunday, how do I watch it at that exact time?

          • Jef Dinsmore /

To clarify there is no live feed of the channel on the site.

When a show debuts Sunday at 9pm on HBO it will also become accessible on HBOGo, You will not see the show airing on the site, but you must select the streamed content. The most current content appears in the Dashboard across the bottom of the screen. Just login and select the show you want.

          • bfarahnik /

Trying to understand this. On Sunday at 9pm when HBO is airing Game of Thrones will I be able to watch it on HBOgo at the same time or is there a waiting period before that new episode is offered on HBOgo?

          • Jef Dinsmore /

            There is no wait.

          • Laith /

I just got HBO NOW via my iPhone. I don’t know much about HBO, but I am a Silicon Valley fan. The 2nd season premiers Sunday April 2nd @ 10pm. Is there any way to watch the new episodes as they premiere on HBO NOW?

I hope this isn’t the question you were just asked, because the question you were just asked pertained to HBO GO, and one of the reasons I decided to try HBO NOW was because I was told/saw you could stream shows live.

My second and final question is if we are unable to view the shows live as they debut, how soon AFTER they debut are they made available to HBO NOW subscribers?

            Please and thank you.

          • Jef Dinsmore /

Unfortunately, I do not have HBONow, but I am told it is very similar to HBOGo. If that is the case then there is no wait.

  78. watch episodes in HD at http://watchseries24.eu

  79. So, just to be clear; there’s no way to stream HBO online without getting the stupid cable subscription? If not, HBO needs to get their shit together. Until then, I’ll just continue pirating all their shows.

    • Sling televison

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

Sling, Sling and for the last time, Sling!

      • In other words what the fuck is Sling. I know I could google it. But that would take 5 – 6 seconds I just can’t spare right now.

        • Ben the Cable Guy /

Sling is a service where you pay a monthly fee and in return you can stream a shit ton of live channels including HBO and you can cancel anytime you like.

        • Ben the Cable Guy /

Wait… What important thing were you doing in 5 seconds that you couldn’t do later?

          Just wondering as all.

      • Ok, finally looked into this. Couldn’t find anything called Sling. Found something called Slingbox (is that what you’re referring to?). But you have to buy some stupid box. I already have Netflix and don’t want another service or another gismo. I just want to pay to stream that one show once.

        • Ben the Cable Guy /

Yeah, i think you have to get a Roku or other streaming device in order to use it, I’m not too sure about it myself. There’s HBO Now but I think you need an Apple device or Android device to use it though.

I do agree though, HBO need to wake up and stop playing hard to get with their content otherwise they’ll just lose money in the long run, their current marketing strategy just doesn’t make any sense.

  80. I have Mediacom cable. I go to San Francisco often for medical and I have to stay over night there. The cable reception in the rooms suck. Would love to be able to watch HBO.

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

As long as the hospital has Wi-Fi, you can log into HBO Go using your Mediacom login on your phone or tablet and watch your shows there

  81. missyree /

I have hbo with my cable package and I have chromecast, how can have streaming only?

  82. Yes, As Previous Commenter Asked – PLEASE Make HBO Go Available For VIZIO Smart TVs…..

  83. Artemis /

Can you please make hbo go available for VIZIO tv’s?

  84. actonannie /

does anyone know if you can do parental controls for hbo go?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

Yes, you can. Once you sign in and see your screen name look to its right and you will see Settings. Click that to take you to the Parental Control options.

Once there it will ask you what content you want to control and asks you to create a Pin # to lock in those parameters.

      • actonannie /

        Thank you Jef
        I have another question
Im concerned about late night content. Does parental control let me control certain hours he could watch. I only want him to be able to watch certain shows. Will parental controls
        allow that option?

        • Jef Dinsmore /

The online site HBOGo allows you to choose to block all TV-MA, content and NC- 17 rated movies. That is the only way to control it. It is by ratings only.

  85. im having the same problem. did you find a solution?

  86. Lea molloy /

Tried downloading HBO go on my phone and when the app is opens it shows just the latest episodes, no search bar, and no way to search for previous seasons. Any suggestions?

  87. HBO please, let the people choose where they can get HBO from. True market fairness. Quit being subjected to the bullying by cable and satellite companies.

  88. Dennis Casey /

Our cable company has several HO channels but HBO Go isn’t one of them. If I subscribe to HBO, can we access HBO Go on our Amazon Fire streaming video box?

    • Jef Dinsmore /

get on the web anyway you can and type in http://www.hbogo.com; from there you need to verify which cable company you get HBO through and you are set. Sometime later this year you will not need a cable subscription to get the streaming service, but pay for it outright.

  89. Edward Markham /

    Can anyone help

    • Jef Dinsmore /

Facebook on TV? Uh, if you have a game console that you can access the internet through you could have your page pop up I guess.

  90. Edward Markham /

How do I get facebook on tv

  91. Justus Crum /

Does anyone know how to sign up for an HBO guest account>

  92. manoocheher Dadgostar /

I don”t understanding .What you expect of a series”Game of thr..” .each episode One year? my dad likes it and he has no more time because of cancer. We are in Iran. Could u pls tell him how long have to be alive to see that.If something happen to him I’ll send another message to you….Thanks

  93. travis /

There is absolutely no Windows Phone 8 support at all. WtF!!! Come on. My Nokia 1520 has probably the best screen for its size on the market.

Also no Vizio TV app either.

    • Kevin Wilson /

Travis are you able to goto hbogo.com and stream the shows? I am looking to get the htc m8 windows phone.

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

Abandon that sinking ship immediately and get an iPhone or Android phone. Seriously man, you owe it to yourself.

      At least you’re not using a Blackberry i suppose…

and as for the Vizio problem, Chromecast.

  94. HBO go is supposed to work anywhere, but I can’t access it while I am abroad.

    • Ben the Cable Guy /

      Get a VPN mate.

      • Ben the Cable Guy /

Seriously man, I use it all the time when I’m visiting relatives in Spain and the UK. I would definitely recommend it.

  95. Robin Sheridan Baarts /

Very dispointed…..just got HBO, found out we can get HBO go, so got it on my tablet. Went to add it to my smart tv, no such app, we have a Vizio, ok we will add it to the blueray, no such luck, its a older Sony, we get what they give us!!! HBO go anywhere…….not really!

    • all you have to do is buy the chromecast device from walmart or bestbuy.plug it in to your tvs hdmi port and it will stream hbogo from the command of your android

  96. Amy Lloyd /

Just think of the back catalog for this http://www.vunify.com/networks/hbo-shows-to-binge-watch.
