HBO Announces VICE PRINCIPALS Second & Final Season

HBO Announces VICE PRINCIPALS Second & Final Season

Straight from an HBO Press Release comes the details on Danny McBride’s return to North Jackson High as Neal Gamby: The tumultuous school year continues and a new semester brings lots of changes. Neal Gamby and  Lee Russell are about to learn that the only thing harder than gaining power is holding on to it, as the darkest comedy on television returns to finish what was started. Season Two debuts SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 at 10:30pm.     Danny McBride (Gamby) and Walton Goggins (Russell) star in part two of HBO’s hit comedy series, created by McBride and Jody Hill and directed by David Gordon Green. McBride, Hill and Green are joined...

Vice Principals Season Finale: “End of the Line”

Vice Principals Season Finale: “End of the Line”

Vice Principals has come to an end with a glorious, good old fashioned ‘whodunnit’ mystery cliff hanger. Forget JR, the question on everyone’s lips is now going to be ‘Who Shot NG?’. The season got progressively better for me, it started out a little unpolished, a little heavy handed and attempts at humor felt lazy. However, the characters have progressed and developed and the story broadened making it a really excellent, well rounded series which gives you just enough that you want more and more. True to form, the season finale was dark as we saw Gamby and Russell lure Principal Brown out on to the train tracks (I’m not entirely...

Vice Principals: “The Foundation of Learning” & “The Good Book”

Vice Principals: “The Foundation of Learning” & “The Good Book”

The saga of Neal Gamby and Lee Russell continues further in the two latest episodes of Vice Principals and each week we are moving further and further away from their initial intention of taking down Principal Brown so that Gamby can become Principal. It would seem that this simple premise was merely a catalyst to create a deep and meaningful bond between the two faculty members and their plans have taken a huge back seat so that they can deal with more pressing matters. The only one who seems to still have an investment in the idea is Lee, Gamby has dropped the matter, like a child who’s bored of his new toy. In last weeks episode,...

Vice Principals: “Circles”

Vice Principals: “Circles”

Vice Principals has taken an interesting turn the last couple of weeks, I am not entirely sure what story Jody Hill and Danny McBride are trying to tell but it certainly feels like it is building up to something. I’ve been thinking it for a few episodes now and I honestly would not be surprised if the climax of the season resulted in a murder. Gamby and Russell are completely on the edge, if knuckle-dusting a body builder wasn’t enough to prove that, stay tuned. Last week saw a divide in Gamby and Russell’s partnership develop as Russell wanted to sabotage the school’s chances at winning the homecoming football game and Gamby...

Vice Principals: “The Field Trip”

Vice Principals: “The Field Trip”

This weeks episode of Vice Principals was a refreshing change from trash talking Prinicpal Brown and focused more on Neal Gamby and the objects of his desire; success and Miss Snodgrass. The vulgar, sharp tongued Lee Russell only featured in the opening scene of the episode but it felt like they tried to cram as much distasteful and uncomfortable language as possible as they watched Principal Brown park her car and approach the school. Baring in mind that her house was burned to the ground (by Gamby and Russell I might add) it would be excuseable for her not to entirely be herself. Russell and Gamby discuss in a wholly disrespectful way her...

Vice Principals: “A Trusty Steed”

Vice Principals: “A Trusty Steed”

This week’s episode of Vice Principals took us down a strange road that just had me questioning what the point of all this is. The episode was entertaining enough and pretty hilarious in parts too but what I am struggling with is what this show is actually about. Is it about two men trying to overthrow their female leader or is it about something much more sinister? The latter I think is the more likely of the two and the premise of the two men battling for the position of Principal was merely a vessel to entertain and entice Eastbound and Down fans. This weeks episode addressed some pretty interesting issues and then Danny McBride...

Vice Principals Series Premiere: “The Principal”

Vice Principals Series Premiere: “The Principal”

Television history has given us some beautiful and unforgettable partnerships. From Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld but one pairing, which is perhaps a little under the radar, is that of Danny McBride and Jody Hill. They have been collaborating with each other for many years and have gained a reputation for creating larger than life, controversial characters and giving dark themes a comedic twist. Eastbound and Down, which has now come to an end, is the most renowned thing that McBride and Hill have worked on together and of course, their return to HBO with their new show Vice Principals has echoes of...

VICE PRINCIPALS Only Planned For Two Seasons

VICE PRINCIPALS Only Planned For Two Seasons

As HBO is about to launch the latest series from the team of Danny McBride and Jody Hill note that its endgame is already in sight. That’s right the powers to be on the show have stated upfront that VICE PRINCIPALS will last only two seasons. The news came when McBride, who plays Vice Principal Neal Gamby along Walton Goggins as rival Vice Principal Lee Russell, made the announcement at the Los Angeles premiere of the show. In McBride’s own words he said – “The whole series is only 18 episodes and that’s it. We just wanted to make a really long movie. It’s one school year and a complete story. This was an old screenplay...
