Vice Principals: “Think Change”

Vice Principals: “Think Change”

The hunt for Gamby’s shooter is still going but takes a back seat this week. In this episode, we get to know Lee more and how he has become the person he is. When we first meet Lee, we can tell he’s kind of a conniving guy and that lying seems to come pretty easy for him. And as the series has continued, that behavior has become more abundant and obvious.  Lee is really good at being a sneaky bad guy. But people aren’t born that way. Lee finds out at the beginning of the episode that his father has passed, which means he will need to be gone for a day for the funeral, leaving Gamby in charge. From the start, you...

Vice Principals: “The King”

Vice Principals: “The King”

This weeks episode of Vice Principals added a few more unexpected twists and turns to the tale of “Who shot Neal Gamby?” Despite Lee Russell’s spiral into what we can only presume will be the madness that ultimately destroys him, it was calm ol’ Ray Liptrapp that stole the show for me. Neal is still on the prowl and decides to turn his attentions to Snodgrass’ new beau Brian (Fisher Stevens) who Gamby now holds as his number one suspect, however, Brian clearly is not the perpetrator and Gamby is starting to clutch at straws. Meanwhile, Russell is a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown as he struggles to gain...

Vice Principals: “Slaughter”

Vice Principals: “Slaughter”

The last season left off with a bang as Gamby went down with two bullet holes and a bit of bloodshed. But with few answers at the beginning of this season, we are watching Gamby struggle to hunt down his shooter. We have to wonder how the rest of the season will play out knowing there will be no third season. Will we ever know who the shooter is?  Or are we going to leave it as a cliffhanger forever? After Lee rounds up a binder on everyone with a supposed grudge against Gamby, Neal starts making his way through the binder looking for suspects. And he gets pretty busy pretty fast considering his hard demeanor has earned him quite a list of...

Danny McBride talks to EW about why Season Two of VICE PRINCIPALS will be the last

Danny McBride talks to EW about why Season Two of VICE PRINCIPALS will be the last

Danny McBride and Walton Goggins have appeared together on EW: The Show to discuss the return of Vice Principals to HBO. Season Two is already looking promising from a very action-packed trailer and an equally action-packed first episode. McBride discussed in the interview that he wanted to give viewers a full and complete story, something with a clear beginning, middle and end and he has decided to do this by completing this story at the end of the current season. He also went on to discuss how he “had been burned” by TV shows in the past that he invested a lot of time in only to see dwindle out in later seasons saying that...

Vice Principals Season Two Premiere: “Tiger Town”

Vice Principals Season Two Premiere: “Tiger Town”

Vice Principals is back on our screens so all must be right in the world. After an explosive Season One finale and a very tantalizing trailer for Season Two, the anticipation for the premiere episode was sky high as we see how Neal Gamby is handling being shot in the shoulder and hip by a masked assassin. First of all, almost everything that we saw in the trailer happened in the very first episode which is a welcome change of pace from episode director David Gordon Green. A critique of Season One was that there were too many episodes that passed by without moving the narrative along, however if this first episode is anything to go by then...

Vice Principals Season Two Trailer Breakdown

Vice Principals Season Two Trailer Breakdown

Vice Principals returns to our screens in just over two weeks time and it looks like Neal Gamby (McBride) and Lee Russell (Goggins) have nothing but revenge on their curriculums. This isn’t the first time that Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created a school centred dark comedy as Eastbound and Down’s very first season echoes clearly throughout Vice Principals, and while Neal Gamby and Kenny Powers are two very different characters, both have similar flaws in that they are selfish, lonely and ultimately powerless. Before we take apart the latest trailer which does well to whet the appetite for the coming weeks, let’s take a quick...

Vice Principals Season Finale: “End of the Line”

Vice Principals Season Finale: “End of the Line”

Vice Principals has come to an end with a glorious, good old fashioned ‘whodunnit’ mystery cliff hanger. Forget JR, the question on everyone’s lips is now going to be ‘Who Shot NG?’. The season got progressively better for me, it started out a little unpolished, a little heavy handed and attempts at humor felt lazy. However, the characters have progressed and developed and the story broadened making it a really excellent, well rounded series which gives you just enough that you want more and more. True to form, the season finale was dark as we saw Gamby and Russell lure Principal Brown out on to the train tracks (I’m not entirely...
