Vice Principals Series Finale: “The Union of the Wizard & the Warrior”

Vice Principals Series Finale: “The Union of the Wizard & the Warrior”

A few days ago saw the violent and cataclysmic end of the season and show Vice Principals.  The show is no stranger to turmoil, as the first season gave us an arson and shooting of Neal Gamby. This season followed that up nicely with all sorts of Lee and Gamby antics and gave us a finale I will probably be talking about for years. Gamby believes that Lee is the one who shot him and uses Lee’s past to get rid of him. Lee isn’t going to let things go though as he becomes determined to find who really shot Gamby. If only so he can become BFFs with Gamby again. Because let’s be real, their bromance is absolutely the best part...

Vice Principals: “Spring Break” & “Venetian Nights”

Vice Principals: “Spring Break” & “Venetian Nights”

The last couple of episodes of Vice Principals kicked things up a gear by ending relationships, beginning new ones and finally unveiling who our masked shooter was, or so we think. Episode Seven: “Spring Break” This week is spring break and Lee Russell doesn’t have anyone to spend it with since he and Christine are getting a divorce so Neal decides to invite him to spend spring break with him. He is taking his daughter Janelle and her two friends to the beach for the week. Quite the motley crew with Lee and Neal in charge of three teenage girls bursting with bad attitude and communicating only through their cell phones, it...

Vice Principals: “The Most Popular Boy”

Vice Principals: “The Most Popular Boy”

While the season is rapidly coming to a close and an end to the show, we still got to enjoy some fresh Gamby and Lee antics this week. After nearly blowing up his marriage, Lee seeks to make things right. Meanwhile, Gamby has taken up with Abbott and I’m starting to wonder how crazy she really is. Can’t say this show has ever been boring in its short run. Earlier this season we saw the relationship Lee had with his sisters. The constant bullying is what created Lee’s lying streak in his life, and this week we got to see the true depth of how far he would go and the damage it can cause. After learning last week that Lee...

Vice Principals: “A Compassionate Man”

Vice Principals: “A Compassionate Man”

I was not a huge fan of this week’s episode, the humor has gone off the ball a bit and for the second week in a row, we are focusing on building the story of Lee Russell; thus, Gamby’s mission for justice has taken a back seat. I’m all for a Goggins heavy episode but the risk in doing so twice in a row is that you lose sight of the main storyline. My guess is that something big is about to happen and Lee Russell will be at the very heart of it, so it’s thought to be necessary to build his character, give his behavior some context and delve into his psyche. While some of the season’s funniest moments have come...

Vice Principals: “Think Change”

Vice Principals: “Think Change”

The hunt for Gamby’s shooter is still going but takes a back seat this week. In this episode, we get to know Lee more and how he has become the person he is. When we first meet Lee, we can tell he’s kind of a conniving guy and that lying seems to come pretty easy for him. And as the series has continued, that behavior has become more abundant and obvious.  Lee is really good at being a sneaky bad guy. But people aren’t born that way. Lee finds out at the beginning of the episode that his father has passed, which means he will need to be gone for a day for the funeral, leaving Gamby in charge. From the start, you...

Vice Principals: “The King”

Vice Principals: “The King”

This weeks episode of Vice Principals added a few more unexpected twists and turns to the tale of “Who shot Neal Gamby?” Despite Lee Russell’s spiral into what we can only presume will be the madness that ultimately destroys him, it was calm ol’ Ray Liptrapp that stole the show for me. Neal is still on the prowl and decides to turn his attentions to Snodgrass’ new beau Brian (Fisher Stevens) who Gamby now holds as his number one suspect, however, Brian clearly is not the perpetrator and Gamby is starting to clutch at straws. Meanwhile, Russell is a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown as he struggles to gain...

Vice Principals: “Slaughter”

Vice Principals: “Slaughter”

The last season left off with a bang as Gamby went down with two bullet holes and a bit of bloodshed. But with few answers at the beginning of this season, we are watching Gamby struggle to hunt down his shooter. We have to wonder how the rest of the season will play out knowing there will be no third season. Will we ever know who the shooter is?  Or are we going to leave it as a cliffhanger forever? After Lee rounds up a binder on everyone with a supposed grudge against Gamby, Neal starts making his way through the binder looking for suspects. And he gets pretty busy pretty fast considering his hard demeanor has earned him quite a list of...

Danny McBride talks to EW about why Season Two of VICE PRINCIPALS will be the last

Danny McBride talks to EW about why Season Two of VICE PRINCIPALS will be the last

Danny McBride and Walton Goggins have appeared together on EW: The Show to discuss the return of Vice Principals to HBO. Season Two is already looking promising from a very action-packed trailer and an equally action-packed first episode. McBride discussed in the interview that he wanted to give viewers a full and complete story, something with a clear beginning, middle and end and he has decided to do this by completing this story at the end of the current season. He also went on to discuss how he “had been burned” by TV shows in the past that he invested a lot of time in only to see dwindle out in later seasons saying that...
