Boardwalk Empire Series Finale: Eldorado

Boardwalk Empire Series Finale: Eldorado

Boardwalk Empire is over, but there remains the unfinished business of the winners and losers. If you haven’t watched the finale yet, beware of spoilers! The final episode mostly tied up loose threads, but there was still some action. Get a refresher on episode 7, Friendless Child, here. Al Capone Al is at the end of his career and knows it. He’s about to face charges of tax evasion that will put him in prison for a long time. The scene between him and his hearing impaired son was very well done and almost made me feel sorry for the gangster who did a lot of very bad things. Al is last seen being swarmed by reporters on court...

Boardwalk Empire: “Friendless Child”

Boardwalk Empire: “Friendless Child”

Nucky Thompson was brought to his knees in the latest episode of ‘Boardwalk Empire.’ War has returned to the Boardwalk, leaving 19 dead and over a million dollars in lost revenue. We haven’t seen this level of brutality since Gyp Rosetti’s onslaught in Season 3. Luciano and Lansky are on the move, and Nucky is desperately trying to keep up. With the final episode of the series less than a week away, and with many of our favorite characters dead and gone, it looks as if the Thompson family has finally been dethroned in Atlantic City. RECAP: Nucky and Salvatore Maranzano are deadlocked in a war-of-attrition with...

Boardwalk Empire: “The Devil You Know”

Boardwalk Empire: “The Devil You Know”

This episode showed the demise of two men and if you were rooting for either one of those sorry chaps then this was a tough episode to watch. I guess with only two episodes left, someone had to bite the bullet. Literally. Also if you don’t want to know any more than that then don’t read ahead! Van Alden and Eli are in a really bad state: cornered by D’Angelo (who is posing as a member of Capone’s gang) and desperate to get the goods on Capone, they venture to the hotel. Their plan is not well thought out and in trying to swindle the ledgers from Capone; they head straight into a trap. The good news is that Capone comes back...

Boardwalk Empire: King of Norway

Boardwalk Empire: King of Norway

1897 Flashbacks In the past, we’ve flashed forward from 1884 to 1897, where we find a young adult Nucky as a deputy sheriff in Atlantic City. In the past… we’ve moved forward…to the future in the past. OK I’ve gone crosseyed. All you need to know is that grown up Nucky is trying to win favor with the Commodore as well as with first wife Mabel’s father. Oh, and he found a body under the boardwalk. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Gillian Gillian makes a plea to Dr. Cotton for her release, but he’s not convinced that she should be free. Doubly terrifying is the unnecessary surgery...

Boardwalk Empire: Cuanto

Boardwalk Empire: Cuanto

1884 Flashbacks Stab me in the heart why don’t ya. Nucky’s summer job is over and the commodore is sending him back to school. Nucky and Eli wander around a bit while Nucky complains about the injustice of it all– and distracts Eli from their father’s fornication with another woman in their own house. They trespass in the hotel where Nucky shows Eli the wonders of a flushing toilet and a bathtub that fills itself when the Sheriff catches them. Instead of arresting them, he takes them home for dinner with his family. Eli is too young to get it, but Nucky is moved to tears by a loving family where there is plenty to...

Boardwalk Empire: “What Jesus Said”

Boardwalk Empire: “What Jesus Said”

1884 Flashbacks Little Flashback Nucky is running around delivering flowers and getting teased about kisses by little girls sending him postcards. He also walks in on dead bodies while Not!Dabney Coleman and the Sheriff clean it up. Some of the clips for this went by so fast that it was hard to tell when they were memory scenes and when they were in present day. Honestly, I would rather be spending more time with Joe Kennedy, or even Van Alden. I would LOVE to see Van Alden have his HULK SMASH! moment this season– I really hope we have one coming! Trivia bit: The postcard is signed Mabel, the name of Nucky’s first wife. Chalky...

Boardwalk Empire: “The Good Listener”

Boardwalk Empire: “The Good Listener”

Everyone has the ability to hear (well, mostly everyone). But can everyone truly listen to what another person is saying? Can you read between the lines? Can you tell when someone is telling the truth, or lying straight to your face? Can you listen to what’s being said and come to the right decision, especially when it concerns your life being at stake? Eli witnesses his warehouse being busted by some federal agents and barely makes it out sober and in one piece. The years haven’t been kind to him; he looks unkempt, like he hadn’t slept or washed up in days and smells of booze and urine. Even Val Alden can’t stand to be near him....

BOARDWALK EMPIRE: Inside The Final Season and Episode One

BOARDWALK EMPIRE: Inside The Final Season and Episode One

Well, BOARDWALK EMPIRE has entered its final season. It has jumped into time to the start of The Great Depression and we are awaiting the end game. Who survives? How do life and the business for Nucky, Capone and the like change and adapt?  Clearly if you know some history you know some answers, but how is BOARDWALK EMPIRE going to play it out? It shall be interesting to find out and HBOWatch likes to take a part in helping us all along in the journey. This writer is surprised that this following video clip didn’t get some play onsite already, but I couldn’t find it. So here is an “Invitation to The Set” piece that helps set...

Boardwalk Empire Season 5: “Golden Days for Boys and Girls”

Boardwalk Empire Season 5: “Golden Days for Boys and Girls”

Everyone, autumn has arrived, and, with it, “Boardwalk Empire!” Sadly, this is the last season for “Boardwalk Empire” and we will only have eight episodes in total. In case you forgot anything from last season, here’s a recap: This year, we go back in time to Atlantic City in 1884 where we see a young Nucky trying to fish out gold coins thrown by Louis “The Commodore” Kaestner into the ocean. Unfortunately for Nucky, the coins are always just out of reach or some other boy gets it first. This is a running theme for Nucky – no matter how hard he tries, the other boys always get there first. He...
