VICE PRINCIPALS Only Planned For Two Seasons

As HBO is about to launch the latest series from the team of Danny McBride and Jody Hill note that its endgame is already in sight. That’s right the powers to be on the show have stated upfront that VICE PRINCIPALS will last only two seasons. The news came when McBride, who plays Vice Principal Neal Gamby along Walton Goggins as rival Vice Principal Lee Russell, made the announcement at the Los Angeles premiere of the show.

In McBride’s own words he said –

“The whole series is only 18 episodes and that’s it. We just wanted to make a really long movie. It’s one school year and a complete story. This was an old screenplay that Jody [Hill] and I wrote back in 2006. But we needed it to be longer so we added and reworked it and broke it up into 18 segments.”

“HBO trusted us to make those episodes without anyone watching them, so they really, really trust us.”

DannyMcB_asNealGamby-300x200So EASTBOUND AND DOWN fans what do you make of that? Does Danny McBride’s style of humor only work best in short bursts? Was this creative team intuitive enough to realize the premise and raunchy exchange between the two leads could only ride out for so long? Or perhaps they have looked into HBO’s track record and seen that a number of HBO’s half-hour shows have only run two seasons at most. Just look at such shows as THE COMEBACK, TOGETHERNESS, DOLL & EM, ENLIGHTENED, HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA, FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS, FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS, EXTRAS and THE MIND OF THE MARRIED MAN all only lasted through their sophomore season.

So, make sure you grab another dose of McBride humor while you got it with VICE PRINCIPALS. The duel for head of the school will play out for eighteen episodes beginning SUNDAY, JULY 17 at 10:30pm and run for nine episodes and we assume do the last nine at this same time next year. HBOWatch will be in session watching right along with you.
