Some people loved it, some people disliked it and most couldn’t always understand it, but WESTWORLD was a unique and intriguing show nevertheless. Unfortunately, it was cruelly purged from HBO/Max after four seasons and though it can be hunted down elsewhere, our awareness of it on HBO is all just memories and ‘what ifs.’ ‘What ifs’ even Evan Rachel Wood has been thinking about.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress admitted she was still thinking about WESTWORLD, its cancellation, and where it could have gone for a fifth season. It was very much in the cards for creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan to continue the sojourn, Hmm, What if…? If you were a true fan you just might be stumped on where it could have gone. Didn’t it sort of end solidly enough in the final episode? As our source reminds us “Que Sera Sera” showed that humanity — and most sentient life — essentially ends after a season that saw the Hosts seizing control, flipping the power scales to control humans the way Hosts once were controlled.

“It was devastating in a lot of ways because, first of all, they don’t tell us where the show is going. We were just always told, ‘We know how the show ends,’ when we started,” Wood explains. “They weren’t writing it as we went along. They had an idea, and we were all just on a bed of nails waiting to see and hear what the conclusion of this was. What it all meant. We didn’t get to have that and so after building an arc and a character for almost 10 years and not getting the payoff at the end to see where it was all going — I think for us and the audience, it was awful in a lot of ways.”

The actress reached out to the showrunners to seek some revelations and closure with the sound ending the team had always had planned. It turns out though, they would not spill the beans. Wood said, “I asked the creators after we got canceled, ‘Can you please just tell me how you’re going to end?’ And they wouldn’t tell me. I think because, I don’t know, maybe somehow, someway, in some iteration we’ll get to finish it, but I still don’t know. It does still keep me up at night.”

Well, there has been DEADWOOD: THE MOVIE and AND JUST LIKE THAT… and MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK, so who is to say somewhere down the line ‘WESTWORLD: THE MOVIE’ can’t happen? WHat do you think?
