BALLERS and INSECURE Join GAME OF THRONES in July

By Jef Dinsmore on Mar 18, 2017 to Ballers, Insecure

As is always the pattern around here for every one-hour drama series on a Sunday night there are always two accompanying comedic half-hours to follow. Right now, of course, we have BIG LITTLE LIES followed by GIRLS and CRASHING. Next on the horizon is THE LEFTOVERS with SILICON VALLEY and VEEP close behind. Then comes the summer slate. It will be GAME OF THRONES, debuting July 16, with BALLERS and INSECURE taking up the later hour.

Here is a brief press release highlighting the slightly later season premieres of the comedy block due to GOT shorter season.

HBO has confirmed a JULY 23 debut for the new seasons of the hit comedy series BALLERS and INSECURE. BALLERS returns for its ten-episode third season SUNDAY, JULY 23 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT). The show looks at the lives of former and current football players, following former superstar Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson), who has reinvented himself as a financial manager for current players in sun-soaked Miami. Season two credits: Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, London Brown, Arielle Kebbel, Dulé Hill, Richard Schiff and Andy Garcia also star. Created by Steve Levinson; executive produced by Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Evan Reilly, Rob Weiss, Julian Farino, Denis Biggs.

We don’t have any more details beyond that yet. No word on Spencer’s hip replacement surgery or a single trailer for Season 3. But if you need a dose of BALLERS how about this –

INSECURE returns for its eight-episode second season SUNDAY, JULY 23 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT). Starring Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce, the series follows the friendship of two black women as they deal with their own real-life flaws while attempting to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. Season one credits: Created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore; executive produced by Issa Rae, Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry. Larry Wilmore serves as a consultant.

There is nothing yet to see about our gal Issa either. But, we do have this quick clip to share. Is she dropping clues?

We will pass on further details on both shows as they come in. Then, what’s after that? How about THE DEUCE coupled with DIVORCE and VICE PRINCIPALS?
