We are more than eager to finally spell out just what threat Christian Barbrow holds over the world that would cause demon Angelo’s concern and how Elena’s immaculate conception plays in. But all is not spelled out quite so easily; the story needs to get a bit more convoluted. Through a hellish bloodletting ritual the Demon allows Father Vagara to see into the living world to reveal that Barbrow obtains some sacred book that causes anyone to gaze upon its pages to go mad. Within it is a summoning spell that can call forth the Devil itself! The power contained within it is now Barbrow’s and Angelo is displeased, for he who summons holds the real power. He also reveals that Elena is part of a greater purpose. Then a surprise character arrives before them in the bowels of Hell. It is the Anti-Pope himself, Santoro (Manolo Solo). It appears that Angelo wants Vergara & Santoro, good & evil, to work together to overcome their common foe!
Our team amongst the living learn of Barbrow’s plans due to the visions and ramblings of Antonio. It takes a while for them to unscramble all the thoughts in Antonio’s mind, but one thing is made crystal clear quite early on – only Elena can save the end of our world. And we almost forgot Merche. Yes, she holds a Coin and thus some power but stronger than her is the three priests that Lagrange told her of, who hold a Coin each. In their company she is powerless, and they plot to use her wiliness to obtain other Coins. She is left with no choice but to acquiesce. So, the story takes a little side trip or two, one to Mexico with Merche in pursuit of a Coin intercut with the rather comic, at times, dilemma facing Elena. She’s giving birth. Wow, what a quick gestation but then again, it seems as if it will be a demon baby anyway, right?
Let’s just say, what Elena gives birth to is a hellish creature and Merche does obtain two Coins from Mexico after dodging a hellish creature of her own. But how does she you ask, as she only has one Coin? She was lent the other three Coins from Lagrange, as he holds her child in exchange. Thus, she walks away with six Coins and a hand reaching out to save her from further danger – Barbrow.
Once again, Barbrow’s scheme was crowded out of the hour, but we were given an exciting ride regardless. Will he somehow take Merche’s six Coins or will it be revealed to her that he already holds some? 30 COINS on HBO or in the HBO Hub, don’t miss it.
