Season two of the HBO Original drama series 30 COINS debuts this October. There is no locked-in premiere date as of yet, but it will be the perfect Halloween treat for HBO fans. The eight-episode season of this acclaimed horror series, produced by HBO Europe in Spain, will air on HBO and will be available to stream on Max and we’re eager to see it.
The title coins, Judas’s blood money, were nearly all collected by the Black Pope last season, but at the last moments were sent scattered across the plaza of Pedraza and the evil managed to slip away only to lay low for another attempt. That day will surely be upon us when the series returns. In the aftermath, most residents of the remote plagued Spanish town have lost their minds and are confined to a psychiatric hospital. Elena (Megan Montaner) lies comatose in a Madrid hospital bed; Paco (Miguel Ángel Silvestre), shattered by remorse, tries to take care of her. As the horror intensifies around them, our group of heroes must face a mysterious new enemy (Paul Giamatti) – someone so perverse that even the devil fears him.
You read that right, a worse evil arrives and he looks like American actor Paul Giamatti. The actor, memorable from HBO’s JOHN ADAMS, plays Christian Barbrow, an American tech and business billionaire, science guru, writer of sci-fi novels, and head of a mysterious “Brotherhood” that counts amongst its members the world’s elite. He is the ultimate disruptor, but nobody knows his true intentions. Uh, does he discover the power of the 30 coins perhaps, and finds an opportunity to get his hands on some or most of them? Perhaps?
In a press release director Álex de la Iglesia said: “Paul Giamatti is probably one of the best actors in the American film industry. HBO has brought me the incredible opportunity of working with him. I would also like to thank his team who, fortunately, knew my filmography. I appreciate the trust placed in me”.
We await the twisted, demonic saga’s return in October. But for now, we have the official trailer.
