ENLIGHTENED: Cancelled After Just Two Seasons

ENLIGHTENED: Cancelled After Just Two Seasons

HBO has just lost that ENLIGHTENED feeling. I could also argue that America itself never felt so inclined because the show, sadly for me, has been dropped due to low ratings. Let me give you some numbers: Season One had a total of 0.17 million viewers and Season Two premiered on 01.13.23 with 300,000 viewers and concluded on 03.03.13 with 220,000. The viewing audience just dwindled to a number that caused HBO to take longer than usual to determine the fate of Mike White’s series resulting in the cancellation. The site TVLine had a Q & A with creator/writer White before the ruling. Here is an excerpt: TVLine asked – So I...

I’m ENLIGHTENED. Are You?

I’m ENLIGHTENED. Are You?

Somehow I missed Season One of ENLIGHTENED.  It premiered on October 11, 2011 and ran for ten episodes. So, I needed to catch up. I have been doing so watching two episodes at a time on HBOGo with just one episode to go before its second season premiere on Sunday, 01.13 at 9:30 pm. The episodes repeat again at 10:30pm. Just for fun here are those ten Season One episodes by title: “Pilot”, “Now of Never”, “Someone Else’s Life”, “The Weekend”, “Not Good Enough Mothers”, “Sandy”, “Lonely Ghosts”, “Comrades Unite!”, “Consider Helen” and “Burn It Down.” Even before seeing the concluding episode I can say...

ENLIGHTEND’s Amy Jellicoe: Agent of Change or Archangel of Catastrophe?

ENLIGHTEND’s Amy Jellicoe: Agent of Change or Archangel of Catastrophe?

Everyone knows that one person in the office, at school or (gulp) in the family. You know, the kind that has the best of intentions, and yet, things seem to go awry. They start out with a vision and end up a complete blur. They often stumble upon things, as in hidden agendas, conspiracies or corporate treachery. Some people take the high road and stand their ground. Some stay quiet, for fear of reprisal. Others fall off the beaten path and end up…in rehab. Such is the case with our clumsy, but well-meaning heroine, Amy Jellicoe. Season One of Enlightened introduced us to a woman who was clearly on the verge of a breakdown. Amy works for a...

Check It Out: ENLIGHTENED Season Two Trailer

Remember Amy Jellicoe? She is the conflicted lady played by Laura Dern who is out to empower herself towards a meaningful life and improve the world around her. As Season One of ENLIGHTENED proved that is not an easy task on either front. That 10 episode season had us meet Amy and her mother Helen (played by Dern’s real mom Diane Ladd) who she moved back in with after rehab from a mental breakdown. She also braves going back into her workplace, Abbadon Industries, and seeing old friends, rivals and even an ex-lover Levi( played by Luke Wilson). By season’s end we learned that Levi was somewhat of a wreck himself and that Amy didn’t...
