UPDATE: We can now CONFIRM that Rachel McAdams is IN for True Detective season 2! Here’s the logline from HBO:
Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.
Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.
Kelly Reilly as Jordan, Frank Semyon’s wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions.
Peace out, rumors! Rachel is now confirmed.
When will the rumors end and certainty take root?! I suppose this should be expected from a “mystery” series, right? Last week HBO nailed down two of the main actors for True Detective season 2: Colin Farrel and Vince Vaughn. But there were two more “lead” positions still left as question marks.
Today, Variety is reporting that “sources say” Rachel McAdams (yes, from The Notebook) is in the final phase of contract negotiation to star as the lead female in True Detective season 2.
“What it came down to was scheduling as insiders tell Variety McAdams was about to start filming “Spotlight,” the drama revolving around the Catholic Church sex scandal uncovered by the Boston Globe, and it was unknown whether dates could be worked out for McAdams to do this and “True Detective.” Sources now say that in the last 24 hours a deal was worked out where the actresses could do both projects.”
Take this one with a grain of salt but it is coming from a generally trusted source and all of the above does sound plausible to us. That being said we have been yanked around a bit with rumors surrounding the season 2 cast this year.
Are you willing to give someone normally known for romantic drama/comedies a chance in your favorite premium detective series? We’ll find out if she’s up to the task (or even playing the role at all!) when season 2 premieres in 2015.

Honestly, besides Collin Farrel, who is at best a hit and miss actor, Rachel McAdams and James Frain, the cast looks pretty bad… Maybe Lolita Davidovich might add something to the second season. Because Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and the rest are not really encouraging.
Plus adding Justin Lin (?!?!?!?) as a director wow! Honestly, I hope I am wrong, but after a phenomenal first season, True Detective Season 2 looks like a clusterfuck in the making…
Wedding Crashers reunion ahoy! (joking) I’m getting more and more excited for this though!!
Why did that have to take so fucking long? Hollywood negotiations have got to be a pain in the ass.
So the newest addition to the “True Detective” cast is Taylor Kitsch…just confirmed his casting…http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/10/27/taylor-kitsch-true-detective-season-2/
Not such bad news, not nearly as bad as Vince Vaughn. Still the cast for Season 2 is not too encouraging…
