Back in this post in July, we pointed out the 130 Emmy nominations that HBO and HBO Max garnered between them. The results are now in and our media outlets of interest only took away nineteen when all was said and done with the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Here, via an official press release, is a listing of the award recipients.
For HBO they are –
4 wins for MARE OF EASTTOWN, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Kate Winslet), Outstanding Supporting Actress for A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Julianne Nicholson), Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Evan Peters), and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More)
There was no question that this work wasn’t going to receive some wins. The performances of Winslet & company were solid and was nice to see they all walked away with honors.
3 wins for LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series (winning sixth straight year), Outstanding Writing For A Variety Series, and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Series
What is amazing there is the fact that this show has taken the top category win for the sixth straight year! The Academy likes Oliver. Will he host that gig soon?
2 wins for LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, including Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Courtney B. Vance) and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour)
This show is a sore subject for many since most cannot wrap their minds around its cancellation. At least it went out with a couple of wins though it was nominated for eighteen of them.
2 wins for I MAY DESTROY YOU, including Outstanding Writing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Michaela Coel) and Outstanding Music Supervision
I hope HBO sees more of her ideas onscreen.
2 wins for DAVID BYRNE’S AMERICAN UTOPIA, including Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special and Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special
This was a great performance special that I watched more than once. It was visually & aurally unique so, these wins make sense.
1 win for THE BEE GEES: HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART, for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction or Reality Program
It was a good documentary but what do I know of Sound Editing to note whether it was top-notch or not?
1 win for A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW, for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming
Hey, a win is a win, even if it is for Picture Editing.
For HBO Max they are –
3 wins for HACKS, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Jean Smart), Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, Jen Statsky), and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Lucia Aniello)
Jean Smart is golden. I remember her from DESIGNING WOMEN and she has been golden ever since.
1 win for THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT, for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music
Congratulations to all.
