The Fast And The Furious franchise has never been one for quality. Furious 7 is no different. The acting is bad, the plot makes no sense, and yet its still immensely enjoyable. The plot...

Movie Review: True Story

Movie Review: True Story

True Story felt like it missed the mark on a few occasions in its attempt at telling the story of Christian Longo and Michael Finkel, however, the story is compelling enough to carry it through and with the help of James Franco and Jonah Hill it was actually pretty entertaining. However, I struggled at times with the film making itself, as it appeared to tick all the boxes for it to be a great thriller but it just lacked substance and artistic finesse to push it into that category. At times I was reminded of the Denis Villeneuve film Prisoners which is a very atmospheric and gripping thriller about two children kidnapped from their family...

HBO Development Slate: Bill Hader, Dern, & More

This short Slate report just goes to prove that big name people would love to work with HBO to get some quality work out there. Bill Hader, Laura Dern, Viola Davis, Judd Apatow and Robert Redford are such talents out to do just that. Below is a quick look at what they hope to present.   Hader Hopes Hitman Happens at HBO HBO has picked up another pilot offer and this one comes from comedic talent Bill Hader. He is working on a little piece he is calling BARRY. But, just who is this Barry? He is an ex-Marine who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill...

New Teasers for Game of Thrones Season Six Released

New Teasers for Game of Thrones Season Six Released

We’re expecting a trailer for HBO’s much anticipated sixth season of Game of Thrones any day now, but while we wait, HBO has treated us to three short teasers that center around three of the major Houses of Westeros, Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen. While the teasers, which focus around the battle-battered banners of each House and have no new footage from the latest season, leave a lot to the imagination, they do feature sound-bites from Season Six which offer oblique clues as to the future of each House in the upcoming season. The teasers are short and sweet– just enough to make us wish April 24th wasn’t so far...

But there is not just an album of cuts but a 10-week sonic blast that will rival anything out there. Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. records are mixing up Vinyl: Music From the HBO Original Series – Volume One. You will be able to purchase either a hard copy or get it via a digital download. An “Invitation to the Set” of Girls Season 5

If you are a huge Girls fan like me then you may want to watch the recent “Invitation to the Set” promo released in anticipation of season 5 starting on February 21st. It looks as though its going to be a game changer of a season and could possibly end the frustrating undulations of poorly judged life choices and impulsive decisions. The teasers and promos have been fairly vague so far with just a few hints to what the season might hold for our leading ladies, but in the “Invitation to the Set” video, Lena Dunham exposes some interesting information that has provoked some interesting thoughts. I shall follow the same...

HBO Miniseries: LEWIS AND CLARK Being Reworked

HBO Miniseries: LEWIS AND CLARK Being Reworked

Speaking about projects being reworked (see: WESTWORLD) the situation with the major HBO miniseries LEWIS AND CLARK seems to be a major overhaul of the scary kind and that is not good. First the sweeping six-hour endeavor hit a snag, to use the production team’s words, with “internal and external, weather-related factors,” leading to a “rough shoot” so far.   Then this past summer the director John Curran and the director of photography Rob Hardy left over the infamous “creative differences” reason. Then the trail went cold, as it were, and the project seemed dead in the water. Finally, we now have a little to go on about the...

Judd Apatow’s CRASHING Picked Up As HBO Series

Judd Apatow’s CRASHING Picked Up As HBO Series

Back in September of last year we learned that Judd Apatow was looking for another series to bring HBO’s way. We didn’t know then that GIRLS, where he serves as an executive producer, was going to end in 2017. Luckily he had CRASHING in the works with colleague Pete Holmes. That concept has just got picked up for a series. CRASHING is a single-camera comedy all about a comedian who spends his lonely life crashing on other comedians couches  all across New York City after his wife leaves him. It sounds like a simple premise, but consider that Pete Holmes plays the only recurring characters and each week he is in a different crash pad...

Movie Review: Entourage

Movie Review: Entourage

So I hear the boys are back…I didn’t know they were gone in the first place.  I decided to take the Entourage movie review even though I had no experience with the story.  Odd choice, I know.  But sometimes I like to think outside the box.  Around here my movie reviews are usually a young adult dystopian film, a young adult dystopian sequel, or just young adult.  In this case, branching out is the opportunity to learn.  In this example, learn about Entourage.  I had the choice of trying to binge the show before the review but soon realized that with 96 episodes, I would never be able to watch them all and the movie and make my...

Gandolfini’s BIG DEAD PLACE Revived At HBO

Gandolfini’s BIG DEAD PLACE Revived At HBO

HBO has just unburied an old James Gandofini (pictured) project with Tim Van Patten at the helm. Just how old? Our first reporting of the work comes from back in 2011 when the late THE SOPRANOS star was looking for his next series after his Jersey mobster. It was BIG DEAD PLACE. That project passed by the wayside as HBO considered CRIMINAL JUSTICE (now known as CRIME) instead; a work we are still waiting for. Tim Van Patten (pictured), a former director of THE SOPRANOS and BOARDWALK EMPIRE is now bringing the concept back to the table. He will serve as executive producer. The work, based on Nicholas Johnson’s memoir about his stint working...

HBO Having WESTWORLD Woes?

HBO Having WESTWORLD Woes?

We don’t wish to hit the panic button but according to recent reports WESTWORLD is still not back before the cameras. As everyone has stated by now the show halted production to improve on the final scripts of the first season and that production would resume on the other side of the Holidays. Variety has just updated that line of thinking and has stated that filming would not resume until March!  We really are only following up on this report to ask some pertinent questions, though we don’t want to cast doubt onto the series. Though it has been reported that HBO claims the series will make its debut date of sometime in 2016 we have got...

THE DEUCE Becomes David Simon’s Next Series for HBO!

THE DEUCE Becomes David Simon’s Next Series for HBO!

HBO does appreciate the talent of David Simon as an announcement has come out declaring that THE DEUCE has been picked up as a series. Of course, anyone who is an HBO fan knows that he was responsible for THE CORNER, THE WIRE, GENERATION KILL, TREME and SHOW ME A HERO. Now, he has a go to create for HBO again. HBOWatch has been following his career for a while including his latest developments. We first caught notice of THE DEUCE in July of ’15; then we learned in September that it was one of two pilots being considered and then in November we reported that the greenlit pilot was in production. Well, it appears that HBO liked what it saw...

What Comic Books Would You Like to See Adapted by HBO?

What Comic Books Would You Like to See Adapted by HBO?

For years, we at HBOWatch have speculated on the possibility of seeing our favorite channel adapt a comic book property (remember Watchmen is in, Monster is out). As other networks have added comic series from the Big Two, we began to wonder if there were any smaller, lesser-known series that would be a good fit for HBO’s brand. For the purposes of this post, we have decided to stay away from DC and Marvel (Sorry, Fables and Swamp Thing, we love ya; we really do!), and focus on that oft-ignored 3rd (or 4th, depending on the month) publisher, Image Comics. Title: SEX Author: Joe Casey Premise: Simon Cooke is a billionaire playboy, who...

Movie Review: Unfriended

Movie Review: Unfriended

2015 was a disappointing and incredibly lackluster year for good horror. Not only were there a limited number of releases for the genre, but the quality of many of the year’s films were forgettable and tedious—with perhaps the only exceptions being David Robert Mitchell’s moody It Follows or the artsy Austrian psychological thriller Goodnight Mommy. However, several unexpectedly chilling and unique films managed to slip through the muck of clichéd drivel, a prime example being Leo Gabriadze’s Unfriended. With its witty satirizing of trendy technology and its creatively sadistic style, this movie broke an interesting mold in the...

LOOKING: “Racy” Movie News

Fans of LOOKING have been waiting for that concluding movie that will wrap up the loose plot lines of the series after its two season run. Just what happens to Patrick, Dom, Agustin, Doris and the rest is unclear at this time as well as exactly when the concluding story will air. A while back though, Jonathan Groff (who plays Patrick) did report some news about the project. Apparently, there will be a lot of sex going on. In an interview late last year Groff had this to say about the LOOKING movie: ”There’s a lot of sex. I don’t want to say who it was with, but I just shot the most intense sex scene I’ve ever done....
