February 12th was said to be the start date for the production of the sophomore season of THE LAST OF US. That means we won’t be able to see it on HBO until late 2025. A show of this size will take a good year to shoot so, if you’re like me, you’ll have plenty of hours to kill playing the Playstation games yet again.

Of course, by now we should all know that joining Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria in the forthcoming season is Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse and Catherine O’Hara as an unknown character at this time. They will take to the environs in and TheLastOfUs-DeverAbby-300x158around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to continue facing the Cordyceps infestation and the fractious nation. The showrunners, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said of casting in general and Dever (pictured) specifically, “Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.”

TheLastOfUs-S2TitlePicThe second season replays the plot points from the game “The Last of Us Part II” however, we know by the showrunners that that whole story can’t be contained in just one season. Though they don’t want the show to drag on, they do want to get the whole story told. And what a story it is. Those of us who have played the game have been very good at being tight-lipped about the plotline making any spoilers not so prevalent. One strong persona is that of Abby. Not only is she a character for a good part of it, she is the main playable character as well. So, what should we expect? Again, NO SPOILERS, but Pascal told Deadline, “I think that [the showrunners are] always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show,” he told the outlet. “But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody, and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information as of yet.”

That quote was from January, so by now, he has some scripts in front of him and he knows very well what is going down. Surely there will be an opportunity, as is the showrunner’s desire, to take a side-step off the main plot for an episode or a scene here or there; similar to what happened with Season One’s third episode “Long, Long Time.” However it takes shape, It will be a long, time before we see the season play out but, we will keep you posted as the year rolls on about THE LAST OF US. Now, where is my game controller?
