It is a bit early yet but the Summer season is slowly losing its hold. There are things we’ll miss but Autumn is pretty awesome, right? And that awesomeness does include some chilly nights in front of HBO. HBO is always strong in the Fall because it knows people head inside evenings for what it has to offer that time of year. So, September could still give us some hot or it could not, either way, HBO is there. Here is most of what HBO offers for September 2019.
Original Series: A big returning drama heads our way in the coming month for its third and final season. Just as VHS overtakes film as the primary medium for porn production and distribution, the lure of the California sunshine, the city’s aggressive takeover of commercial sex properties and the devastating impact of the AIDS epidemic mark the end of an era. Following the interconnected lives of Times Square’s barkeeps, prostitutes, pimps, police, mobsters, porn actors and producers, this third season brings the series’ arc to a dramatic conclusion.

The acclaimed drama series SUCCESSION continues its second season SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 01 (9:00-10:00pm), and explores themes of power, politics, money, and family, played out within a rich and dysfunctional family whose patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), is CEO of Waystar Royco, one of the world’s largest media and entertainment conglomerates. Now I know I don’t need to re-hash all this, but we are talking the biggest post-GOT show going right now so tough it out if you don’t need the following: beginning where season one dramatically left off, season two follows the Roys as they struggle to retain control of their empire amidst internal and external threats. While the future looks increasingly uncertain, it is the past that portends to ultimately destroy them, as each of Logan’s four children remains focused on personal agendas that may or may not sync with those of their siblings. As Kendall (Jeremy Strong) deals with fallout from his hostile takeover attempt, this season finds Shiv (Sarah Snook) poised to make her way into the upper-echelons of the company, while Roman (Kieran Culkin) decides to reacquaint himself with the business by starting at the bottom, and Connor (Alan Ruck), who’s long eschewed the Waystar machinations, launches an unlikely bid for president. Blending high drama with sharp humor, season two of the series promises plenty of palace intrigue as this emotionally-challenged family navigates a rapidly changing media landscape and the looming question of who will take over in a post-Logan world. Below is all we can say about the September episodes:
Roman (Kieran Culkin) begins a six-week management training program in the Parks division and is irritated about spending so much time with “normals.” Logan (Brian Cox) brings Shiv in for a day at Waystar, raising suspicions with Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron). Connor (Alan Ruck) and Willa (Justine Lupe) attend the funeral of a family friend with a complicated past. Logan and Kendall arrange a covert meeting with PGM CEO Rhea Jarrell (Holly Hunter), as a controversy surrounding a star anchor leads to a day of chaos at ATN headquarters. Written by Georgia Pritchett; directed by Robert Pulcini & Shari Springer Berman.
Logan (Brian Cox) attempts to solidify his buyout of PGM at a weekend retreat at the Pierce family home, where Shiv (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Connor (Alan Ruck) veer from their carefully orchestrated roles. As the Pierces question whether an alliance with Waystar Royco will tarnish their legacy, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) makes his case to Naomi Pierce (Annabelle Dexter-Jones) during a drug-filled night. Written by Will Tracy; directed by Mark Mylod

McBride stars as Jesse Gemstone, the eldest of three grown Gemstone children, who sees himself as a maverick in the ministry game but, as the series begins, receives a blackmail video that could put his reputation at risk. Getting caught up in the hunt for the culprits are Jesse’s sister Judy (Edi Patterson), who is secretly “living in sin” with her fiancé and dreams of escaping the Gemstone compound, and Jesse’s youngest sibling Kelvin (Adam Devine), a pseudo-hipster who always finds a way to get under his brother’s skin. Meanwhile, the family’s patriarch Eli (John Goodman) finds himself in a point of crisis as he mourns the loss of his wife Aimee-Leigh and questions whether the Gemstones are still serving a higher power as they aggressively expand their empire. Also causing a headache for the Gemstones is Baby Billy (special guest star Walton Goggins), Aimee-Leigh’s younger brother, who agrees to minister at a new Gemstone prayer center that riles a local pastor trying to hang on to his flock. Following the antics of this emotionally stunted family in nine episodes, the series is a hilarious, irreverent look at high-living, holy rollers – whose world of mansions, jets, greed and corruption belies their virtuous, godly mission.
