The first episode of the new series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake opens with the duo chasing a new villain: A rat that is also a bus (if that sounds familiar, it’s because it sounds a lot like My Neighbor Totoro‘s Catbus!).
However, it’s soon revealed Fionna was dreaming, as she and Cake live in a world that is eerily close to ours! That’s right. The protagonist has an 8-5 job and a messy apartment. But don’t worry; her life does take a 180-degree turn when Cake begins acting strangely following the Catbus-rat nightmare. Eventually, the couple will encounter a portal that shall return them to our familiar Adventure Time land – and a long-awaited reunion.
What We Think of The Show So Far
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake did not disappoint us. The successor to the beloved original series is both entertaining and true to its spirit.
Perhaps one of the main differences is that Fionna’s world is, initially, our own world, too. So, when the pair travel to the Land of Ooo via the ice cream truck portal, we feel their new environment is even more magical. Because, this time, we’re sharing the surprise with the protagonists. And it’s a whole new range of emotions!
