HBOWatch Editors were not able to line-up a writer to review LET”S BE COPS, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to draw your attention to the R-rated comedy playing on HBO. LET’S BE COPS premieres on Saturday, 04.18 at 8:00pm and will air the following dates on the main channel: 04.19 at 2:15am and 7:10pm and 04.22 at 8:00pm It will also run on the other channels as well as on HBOGo/HBONow.
LET’S BE COPS is about two hapless dudes, Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake M. Johnson who thought it cool to dress up as police officers for a costume party. They end up, somehow, being seen as the real thing which gets them tangled up in all sorts of problems. Co-written and directed by Luke Greenfield, (Role Models and TV’s The Neighbors) this picture offers the classic cop buddies, but this time they aren’t really cops. In fact, that is how 20th Century Fox pitches it.
It’s the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they’re not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.
The comedy also stars Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, Keegan-Michael Key and Andy Garcia. The question remands whether Wayans and Johnson make a good team, both as leads in this movie and as policemen. Rotten Tomato seems to think that that chemistry is the best part. Metacritics analysis can be factored in a well. Only you can decide for sure if they can hold up the silly premise.
