The summer smash comedy, Girls Trip, is coming to HBO this weekend, and I can give four reasons why you should watch: Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish. These four ladies not only bring the laughs but some of the most memorable scenes you’ll see in a comedy of its type.
The premise of the movie is pretty easy to follow: four friends, at different stages of their life, come together for a reunion trip of sorts at the notorious Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, LA. They deal with everything from heartbreak to hurt, love to lust, and a grapefruit somewhere along the way. The breakout star, Tiffany Haddish, has seen her career take off because of this role. She is not only the breakout star, but her comedic timing, larger than life presence, and raw talent is the reason I’ve watched this movie five times already!
The three veterans hold their own, allowing room for Haddish to have her moment! It’s good to see these ladies who have shined in their own right still remain confident, sexy, hilarious and relevant. The movie’s plot isn’t one of epic proportions and is pretty predictable for the most part. But that was okay for me because the chemistry, the unspoken alliances and music, made it worth it for me. The ladies actually filmed this during the festival a couple of years back. If nothing more, I not only plan on taking a trip to this festival, but I know I’ll have to round up a few friends of my own to make my trip just as memorable as theirs.
I must admit that I am pulling for a sequel of sorts. I wouldn’t mind watching these ladies and the next adventure they fall upon. The trailer is below and you can check out the featured movie Saturday, March, 31 at 8:00pm EST.
