We know, we know, we are very late for the opera, but the Holidays got in the way. But, just as the new Opera House received applause, so did the announcement that Julian Fellowes’ THE GILDED AGE will see a third season on HBO. Fans of the series were waiting for the news and now the proclamation is in.  Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films is quoted as saying, “We’re so proud of what Julian Fellowes and THE GILDED AGE family have achieved. From the costumes to the production design and performances, the show has captivated so many week after week. Along with our partners at Universal Television, we are thrilled to continue this grand tale for a third season.”

GildedAge_Titlecard2-300x168Erin Underhill, President, Universal Television offered the following quote: “There is much more story to tell with THE GILDED AGE. We’re delighted that HBO is giving fans another season of Julian Fellowes’ incredible storytelling. The cast and crew put so much of their heart and soul into the last two seasons, and we’re so proud that all this hard work is paying off with another season… you won’t want to miss what’s next!”

It is, of course, difficult to say just what indeed comes next. There are plenty of storylines to continue and characters to follow, both upstairs and downstairs. It appears the Van Rhijn household has survived financial distress. Will Marian Brook find a lasting love with Larry Russell? What adventure will the ambitious Peggy Scott pursue? And young footman Jack Trotter seems to be doing well for himself. And Mrs Astor & Winterton will surely loom in the coming season, right? The Russels might be sitting pretty for now, but surely there are more fights to come in the old money/new money battle in the season to come. We’ll keep you posted.

It is going to take time I’m afraid. there is no indication that they even have started writing the season let alone get it before cameras. It will take most of this year to get something completed.

Wow, that is dedication to the show. We bet you have had some interesting discussions over that phone. Surely, besides just talking plot, you dished about costumes and setting? What a fun way to enhance the enjoyment.

I thoroughly enjoy this series. It brings back
History. How the barons established their wealth!
Keep it going for all of us.

I’m afraid that any wait for a new season is going to be too long a wait for you. Hang in there and re-watch if you must.

Why is it a season with only 8 episodes?

Reply
Jef Dinsmore January 5, 2024 - 4:18 pm

Only the original broadcast channels have numerous episodes per season anymore. It is common for show via other outlets to have shorter seasons. The reason for that is the expense that goes into each show for a low-budget network or streamer. THE GILDED AGE spares no expense in crafting an immersive historical experience; fewer episodes means it keeps the cost down.

Guilded Age is suitable for family entertainment (with some small exceptions) as opposed to Game of Thrones which is definitely not. It’s a wonderful show. I love the wardrobes, furniture and architecture. Wonderful episodes.

You could almost sit with the sound off and just oogle at the production value poured into the work, yeah?

I have truly enjoyed both seasons of the gilded age and, have shared it with family and friends to their enjoyment as well. Being from New York it has been so interesting to say the least watching the stories unfold. We look forward to season 3.
