Overview: Cocaine use in Europe has increased dramatically over the past decade, and new routes have evolved to supply the demand. VICE follows the cocaine highway from the streets of Venezuela, to drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean, to the ports of West Africa, and finally to desert territories controlled by Islamic extremists. By exploring the trafficking hot spots of South America and Africa, we find out who is profiting from Europe’s cocaine habit. VICE looks at the boom in one of the world’s newest billion-dollar industries: gestational surrogacy. The cost of surrogacy in the U.S. can be over $100,000, leading many...

New Game of Thrones Teaser Reveals Little, Teases Much

The wait is almost over, and HBO is just rubbing it in. We’re thirteen days  away from the world-wide premier of Season Five of Game of Thrones, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m ready for HBO to stop torturing us with actor interviews and trailers and teasers, and show us a real episode. Still, since we still need to wait exactly one day less than two weeks, we have to make due with what we can, and today that comes in the form of a new teaser trailer HBO recently released on it’s official Game of Thrones Youtube channel. Exciting, right? Maybe not so much.  It’s only a thirty second, re-working...

Movie Review: “Into the Storm”

Movie Review: “Into the Storm”

When I was a little girl, I had a morbid fascination with tornadoes. Not the damage that they caused to people’s homes and communities, nor the hurt and devastation caused to animals and humans. I was always fascinated with the power and fear – the power that tornadoes had over human nature and the fear it instilled in the hearts of many. Tornadoes wreak havoc wherever they strike. If it’s any consolation, it’s that humans rise up again and rebuild their lives and try to carry on with a brave face. In the movie “Into the Storm” we see a group of storm chasers who are attempting to document a tornado; a meteorologist trying to...

New Video Gives Hints of Arya’s Storyline In Season Five

A recently released clip from Season Five has given us a better look at the House of Black and White which will be a pivotal location in Arya Stark’s storyline this season. The actress who plays Arya, Maise Williams recently was a guest on the talk-show Jimmy Kimmel Live  and was able to share a brief look at one of her characters’ scenes from Season Five.In the scene, we see Arya, standing before two doors–one black and one white, which stand ajar. As the scene begins, an old and  grizzled man appears from the darkness inside, fixing Arya with a impenetrable stare. “Hello,” begins Arya, uncertainly, and...

HBO Cancels Looking, Plans Final Special Instead of Season 3

HBO Cancels Looking, Plans Final Special Instead of Season 3

Sad news for fans of HBO’s “Looking” which followed the lives of three gay men in San Francisco as they made their way through the modern world.  HBO has elected not to renew the show for what would be a third season. While HBO doesn’t normally make these decisions based on ratings, it probably played a role in Looking’s cancellation.  Only 240,000 viewers watched Looking this season, on average.  That’s below almost every series currently running on HBO’s air right now. “After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love...

Looking Season Finale: “Looking for Home”

Looking Season Finale: “Looking for Home”

I must have gone through an entire box of tissues with how much of an emotional wreck the season two finale of Looking left me in. Throughout its run, Looking has been a highly realistic and serious series, yet always with a comedic dash of sarcasm and hilarity. “Looking for Home,” however, was Looking at its most solemn and intense, and in a very powerful way. The episode covered a lot of relevant topics in both gay and straight culture, such as monogamy, the importance of friendship, and making difficult decisions for the sake of one’s own mental and emotional stability. Ultimately, the boys in Looking have been searching for love...

It’s an exciting opportunity that opens up a lot of doors to her future. The only issue however is that it’s in Tokyo. The rest of her arc this episode is her trying to make the decision whether or not she should take the job. Her current boyfriend begs her to stay, but Ray’s business partner convinces her to take the job. The whole season has revolved around Shoshana’s future,...

Telltale Games: EPISODE 3 – “The Sword in the Darkness” Released

Telltale Games: EPISODE 3 – “The Sword in the Darkness” Released

Yesterday, the third installment of Telltale’s episodic video-game set in Westeros was released. Titled, “The Sword in the Darkness,” the newest episode was impressive in its tightly written plot as well as the mechanics of its game-play. The game is about two hours in length and is tightly packed with a mixture of intrigue and action that ensures there is never a dull moment.  Tension runs high as the predicament of the Forresters becomes more intense–affecting the lives not only of those in Ironrath but in other locations as well. Whether it be at the Wall, in Essos, King’s Landing, or the...

HBO Documentary Films: IT’s ME, HILARY: THE MAN WHO DREW ELOISE

HBO Documentary Films: IT’s ME, HILARY: THE MAN WHO DREW ELOISE

Overview: A little girl who lives at the Plaza Hotel, free of parents, school and any notion of boundaries, the illustrated imp Eloise has been an obsession for little girls, a delight for adults and a sly feminist icon for more than 50 years. One of these little girls was Lena Dunham (creator of the hit HBO series “Girls”), who was such a fan that she had an image of Eloise tattooed on her back at age 17. Directed by Matt Wolf and executive produced by Dunham and Jenni Konner, this documentary tells the story of Hilary Knight, the man whose pen helped create Eloise, and recounts the painful events that led to the dissolution of his...

Game of Thrones Writers Confirm Show Will Spoil Books

Game of Thrones Writers Confirm Show Will Spoil Books

It’s been a possibility ever since the show began but now it has been confirmed–the HBO’s Game of Thrones will out-pace and spoil George R.R. Martin’s currently unfinished series, A Song of Ice and Fire upon which the show is based. While many have suspected that this will be the case, due to Martin’s slow writing pace contrasted with the show’s tight schedule, the writers of the Game of Thrones, David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently confirmed that the show will indeed spoil the books at a recent panel discussion at the Oxford Union.  The writers suggested that many aspects of Martin’s...

In Production: BALLERS

In Production: BALLERS

BALLERS, the Dwayne Johnson sports-themed comedy we have been tracking for a while offers up a look or two. Despite the fact that we know little about the show with no promo or tease yet we do know that it is in production. We first caught track of the project back on 06.07.13; on 11.14.13 we mentioned the title and some casting news; and on 02.14.14 HBO gave it a series order. Confirmation of start-up was announced in November of 2014. The only video glimpse has been in the 2014 YearEnder clip. Now evidence of the series in full production is becoming more evident. Maybe a Tease or Trailer is going to surface in April?  As late as...

MADAME X with Anna Paquin In Negotiations with HBO

MADAME X with Anna Paquin In Negotiations with HBO

HBOWatch reported a while back that CASM, the production company run by Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin, had a first look deal with the network upon the conclusion of TRUE BLOOD. Their first pitch to the pay cabler has now surfaced and it is entitled MADAME X. It is being eyed as a potential miniseries for HBO. The project is based on a novel by Kate Manning entitled “My Notorious Life”. We went to Amazon.com to find out more about the source material. Lifting from a Washington Post blurb contained there we learn –   Inspired by a real midwife who became one of the most controversial figures in Victorian New York City, this...

VICE – “We the People” / “Countdown To Extinction”

Overview: A recent study funded by the Department of Homeland Security listed domestic right-wing groups as two of the top three greatest terrorist threats in America. Nestled within our own borders, these citizens, many of whom are highly trained veterans, are on a mission to protect and defend the rights of the Constitution. After the election of President Obama, the number of these groups skyrocketed by over 800 percent- reaching an all-time high in 2012 with over 1,300. In an effort to understand this phenomenon better, VICE investigates these so-called patriots, training and taking up arms along the border. During the last six decades,...
