Deadwood’s Ian McShane Cast For “Game of Thrones” Season Six

Finally some news about Season Six! HBO is being uncharacteristically tight-lipped about its upcoming season of Game of Thrones, but the TV network broke its silence recently. Entertainment Weekly  announced earlier today that renowned Emmy Award winning actor Ian McShane will be joining the cast for Season Six. This will not be McShane’s first time in an HBO series. Ian McShane is well-known for his stellar acting in the well loved TV show Deadwood but has also made a name for himself acting in more light- hearted entertainment such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Kung Fu Panda. HBO did not disclose what character McShane...

Movie Review: Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance

I’d be surprised if I found a film that came out in the past few years more divisive than Birdman. Coming out of awards season with the Academy Award for Best Picture amongst several others, a lot of people saw this as Hollywood once again patting itself on the back with another self-congratulatory tale of an actor aspiring to greatness when the world around him tries its damndest to pull him back down to Earth as though he were Icarus flying towards the sun.  Except Icarus’ wings were made of wax and melted when he got too close. And if that metaphor seemed a bit pretentious in your mind, this is going to be a fun ride. This...

New Scorsese Series Will be Called Vinyl, Air in 2016

After almost a year of speculation and waiting we finally have a name for that long-awaited series coming from the team that brought us Boardwalk Empire.  ‘Vinyl’ is a drama created by Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese that follows the life and misadventures of a music producer in the 1970’s (Bobby Cannavale). The Emmy winning Cannaval isn’t alone in this sure-to-be-a-hit series– far from it. Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano and several other faces you’ll probably recognize are part of Vinyl’s casting call. Not only has the name been a secret until now, the premiere date– hell, the premiere year...

HBO Suggests Game of Thrones to Have Eight Seasons

HBO Suggests Game of Thrones to Have Eight Seasons

Seven hells! Game of Thrones is going to have eight seasons! George R.R. Martin may be writing a seven-book series about the world of Westeros– a land with seven gods and seven kingdoms, but the show Game of Thrones will now have eight or more seasons.  The news was broken by the HBO President President Michael Lombardo who made the announcement at Television Critics Association.  At least another season more than we have anticipated is exciting news for everyone reluctant to see Game of Thrones leave their screens for good. While Game of Thrones writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have often suggested that they planned to...

HBO Hopes for More from David Chase and Larry David!

HBO Hopes for More from David Chase and Larry David!

The Summer Television Critics Association (TCA) event had HBO in the house and a number of announcements have dropped regarding the network. President of Programming Michael Lombardo held the stage and offered up the following: David Chase, creator of THE SOPRANOS, has had a project in mind for more than a few years now. It is entitled A RIBBON OF DREAMS and is about the early Hollywood film industry.  It was a project HBO and Chase entertained a couple of years after THE SOPRANOS concluded in 2007. Lombardo stated “I’ve seen pages. He showed us two hours worth of material, and I trust I’ll see more by the end of the year. I think...

HBO Confirms The Leftovers Season 2 Premiere Date

HBO Confirms The Leftovers Season 2 Premiere Date

Are you still hungry for another helping of leftovers? HBO is looking to serve up a freshly rebooted series to you on October 4th, 2015. Will we find out what The Departure really was this season? Almost certainly not but we can hope to get a few clues that, at the very least make us stop and think. HBOs fall schedule is looking a bit depressed at the moment. While there are a pair of mini-series and a few other smaller series, The Leftovers is actually the “biggest” launch we’ll see until 2016 after True Detective stops airing in two weeks. This is a departure from fall of 2014 where we still had The Newsroom and...

True Detective: “Church In Ruins”

True Detective: “Church In Ruins”

This season of True Detective has been unjustly maligned by many critics who have decided to ignore great performances, and the nearly identical tone to the beloved first season. Episodes like “Church In Ruins” go far in proving these criticisms as moot points. This episode is full of tension from the opening scene to the finale. “I have a sense of justice” Starting from where we left last episode we immediately go full tilt into the confrontation between Velcoro and Semyon. This scene is full of tension so rich it would make Alfred Hitchcock squeal in glee. The fact that both characters are seemingly having a normal...

Uh-oh.  Replacing Bailey is Ben Barnes who will take up the role of Logan. That character is a...

Movie Review: The Drop

Movie Review: The Drop

Warning: This review contains some spoilers. Michaël R. Roskam’s 2014 film The Drop features talent that is familiar to HBO viewers: Dennis Lehane (writer: The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), Ann Dowd (True Detective, Olive Kitteridge), and most notably, the late James Gandolfini in his final film role. Adapted by Lehane from his own short story “Animal Rescue,” The Drop stars Tom Hardy as Bob, a soft-spoken man who lives in a rough Brooklyn neighborhood. Tom works as a bartender at Marv’s, and has little in common with the rowdy regulars who patronize the establishment. Bob also has little in common with Marv himself...

Is Jon Snow Coming Back? Kit Harington’s Whereabouts May Offer Clues

WARNING: Major Game of Thrones spoilers below. Ever since Game of Thrones‘ latest season ended with the supposed death of fan-favorite Jon Snow, many have been in debate as to whether the character is truly dead or not. While some argue that no one can survive multiple stabbings to the vital organs, surprisingly, most fans are of the opinion that Jon’s story isn’t over. The internet abounds with fan theories about how Jon Snow will survive his attack, or even be resurrected from death, but while some shrug them off as merely the fantasies of heart-sick viewers who cannot accept their favorite character’s  death,...
