HBO-Logo-SpaceHBOWatch is aware now that daylight lasts longer and the nights are nice but, you still can steal some time for your favorite channel,
right? As we well know, the content airs often and at various times so there should be no problem catching what you want to watch even if it is not on the actual premiere date. Besides, there is always the opportunity to watch at your convenience with OnDemand and HBOGO.

Theatrical Movies: I personally watched two movies on HBO in May. I suffered through WATER FOR ELEPHANTS to my spouse’s enjoyment and she, in turn, watched me watch XMEN: FIRST CLASS. In June, there are five Saturdays, thus there are five movie premieres. They are a varied set of films so something might appeal to you. There is the ongoing rough night for the trio of buddies in THE HANGOVER: PART 2; CRAZY STUPID LOVE which was called a “sweet romantic comedy” by critic Roger Ebert; for the kids there is Jim Carrey’s MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS; there is the  warm & fuzzy family flick DOLPHIN TALE and the shocking horror sequel FINAL DESTINATION 5.

Told you there was something for everyone. So what will it be? The children’s book that is brought to film called MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS? If you and the kids love the antics of Jim Carrey here is a chance to see how he competes with real & CGI created penguins on screen. It starts 06.02.12. THE HANGOVER: PART 2 (starts 06.09.12) is definitely adult fare. Care to see, if you didn’t in theaters, the bawdy antics of Phil, Stu and Alan? I am sure some of you are. The romantic comedy of the bunch stars Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore among others. It is CRAZY STUPID LOVE (starts 06.16.12 and it probably is. Next, I admit, is the movie I will seek out in June. It is DOLPHIN”S TALE (starts 06.23.12). Come on, I like a lot of rough-n-tumble movies but a true story about a dolphin and his prosthetic tail? Need I say more? Oh, yeah I do. The list of theatrical movies closes out with FINAL DESTINATION 5 which starts 06.30.12. If you need to see more macabre ways to die than you will catch this one.

true-blood-poster-bill-202x300Originals: HBO original programming overshadows the theatrical movies every month but in June they really do it in a HUGE way. We will see the season finale of one dramatic series; the return of yet another dramatic and “fang”tastic series; the start of a new one getting already its share of good news; and plenty of comedy as well. Plus, there is the start of the summer 2012 HBO Documentary Series. I said HUGE!

The final episode of Season 2 of GAME OF THRONES starts 06.03.12. Episode 20 is called “Valar Morghulis.” But just a week later (06.10.12) TRUE BLOOD drips with the Vampire Authority and Christopher Meloni. Everything is at stake, at least for twelve episodes. Two week after that (06.24.12) THE NEWSROOM catches our attention. That is safe to say, right? Here verbatim is what the HBO Guide says about this new show:

Is it possible to produce a good TV news show and make it popular at the same time? That’s the question facing volatile cable-news anchor Will McAvoy and the ideological staff that has just been foisted upon him in this all-new HBO series by Aaron Sorkin. Overcoming a tumultuous first day together Will (Jeff Daniels), new executive producer Mackenzie (Emily Mortimer), their newsroom staff (John Gallagher Jr., Allison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and news division boss Charlie (Sam Waterston) set out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to “do the news well” in the face of various corporate, commercial and personal entanglements.

Even if you don’t stick with it you should s least watch the pilot episode before you decide to pass on it or stay with it. I already know, based on the trailers and the Invitation to the Set video that I’m watching this new series. How about you?

The originals don’t stop there. There is still the comedy series that HBO airs in June. GIRLS doesn’t see its season finale until 06.17.12 and VEEP’s inaugural season ends 06.10.12. Will Hannah and company find any inkling of a clue on how to survive by then and will Selina Meyer have any clue at all? We’ll find out soon. There are also the antics of Ricky Gervais and Bill Maher to contend with as well. The animated THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW airs Friday night at 9:00pm/et right before REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER at 10:00pm/et through the merry month of June.

Now let’s focus on the documentaries that air. A seven week series of HBO DOCUMENTARY FILMS airs every Monday night beginning on 06.18-12. A complete lineup of the slated films can be found here. The film to kick off the series is ONE NATION UNDER DOG: STORIES OF FEAR, LOSS AND BETRAYAL. I will have a closer look at this documentary and will attempt to pass comment on each film as they air. I can only recommend that you don’t miss them. Each film in the series is completely different from the next. Case in point is the second offering in June. Premiering 06.25.12 is ME @ THE ZOO; it has nothing to do with animals but about a unique youngster Chris Crocker. Again, I’ll have more on that later.

One-Nation-Under-Dog-202x300Sports: On HBO not only can you get front row seats for some awesome pugilistic punches but you can also go behind the scenes as well. The fight to air in June is Julio Cesar Chaves Jr. vs. Andy Lee for HBO CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING and it airs 06.16.12. I wish I was way more knowledgeable with boxing to give you stats and such but, if you are into the sport I am sure you will be watching regardless of what I say. And if you live it twenty-four/seven then you might want to continue with the series 24/7 PACQUIAO/BRADLEY Saturday nights. You can go inside their heads before they face off 06.09.12 on HBO PAY PER VIEW. For even more behind the scenes check out more episodes of THE FIGHT CLUB WITH JIM LAMPLEY on 06.16.12. And for news outside the squared ring there is always REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL. There is always something interesting said there. Last week it was the interview with Olympian in training Lolo Jones and her “abstinence is a lot harder” quip. You did see that all over the web, right?

Other Movies & Shows: As usual all that is left to say at this point is that there are always listings of other various titles that you can catch on the channel or the other aforementioned outlets. And I would be remiss if I didn’t throw out a few suggestions. How about HAPPY GILMORE, MACHETE, PERFECT CREATURE or WATERWORLD? Talk about variety. Maybe, you have better choices?

And that wraps up HBOWATCH’s look at the June schedule. There is plenty to watch and keep us entertained. So enjoy your HBO and let us know what you end up watching!
