HBO-Logo-Space-150x150We are coming up onto June already. Times flies when you’re hooked on HBO content. WESTWORLD is still going hot and another dramatic series gets added to the slate. I’m sure you’ll find something worth watching. Don’t forget (but we are here to remind you) to go off the beaten track to explore something, fun, thrilling, scary or informative on one of the other HBO channels offered. Below are a few suggestions for June 2018.

HBO_Succession-300x109

Original Series: The drama series SUCCESSION, debuting SUNDAY, JUNE 03 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) explores themes of power, politics, money and family, played out within a rich and dysfunctional family whose patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), is CEO of one of the world’s largest media and entertainment conglomerates. In light of his advancing years, it is widely anticipated that Logan’s retirement is imminent, and each of his four grown children is focusing on a personal agenda that may or may not sync with those of their siblings, or of Logan himself. The show also stars Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Alan Ruck, Hiam Abbass, Nicholas Braun and Matthew Macfadyen. Created by Oscar and WGA nominee Jesse Armstrong (In the Loop); Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich (HBO’s VEEP), Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, Jane Tranter (HBO’s THE NIGHT OF) and Mark Mylod (HBO’s ENTOURAGE) executive produce; Armstrong serves as showrunner.

“There’s no question that SUCCESSION, at its root, is a family story,” notes director and executive producer Adam McKay. “There’s also a tragic side to it, where you see how massive wealth and power distort and twist and wound this family.”

Executive producer Frank Rich adds, “I think it is the specificity of the way the SUCCESSION characters are drawn, with wry humor and heart, and the caliber of this ensemble cast, that make the Roys stand out in the crowded field of family drama.”

HBO also drops an HBO FIRST LOOK, this time of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. A few ROOM 104 repeats surface as do a few documentaries like WARNING: THIS DRUG MAY KILL YOU and THE CASE AGAINST 8 also air.

HBO’s Other Platforms: Below is just proof that you can always find something of interest somewhere across HBO’s platforms. HBO LatinoLet’s start with what is wrapping up in Movies_ElFutbolOYo-211x300June. EL NEGOCIO sees its fourth season conclude on 06.03 and DESTINO RUSIA 2018 ends 06.13. If you don’t know what those two shows are you haven’t been reading. Coming new to the channel are BEBE and EL FUTBOL O YO on 06.01. the first one is a short film about a youngster crossing the border with nothing but a lunchbox full of cash and the latter one is a seriocomic look at a soccer fan who is so obsessed with the sport that he loses his job and ignores his wife until she gives him an ultimatum. EL HOMBRE QUE CUIDA (The Watchman) is a tale of class struggles as the watchman of a beach villa clashes with the rich owner’s son and in MI MUNDIAL (Home Team) a 13-year old small-town soccer prodigy gets the chance of his life to follow his dreams and get his humble family out of poverty. HBO Family: Spend some quality time with the family and take in such titles as AVATAR, if you can keep them still for 2 hours & 42 minutes. Or how about the classic (by our standards) MR. MOM with Michael Keaton or WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE? To get an animated one in there how about MEGAMIND? HBO Signature: One of my unexpected HBO favorites plays on this channel in June. I’d never thought I’d love ANGELS IN Movies_DeepRising-300x261AMERICA because of its subject matter, but I do. I also offer DOLORES CLAIBORNE because IT isn’t the only Stephen King content this month. Also, there is BLOOD WORK, yet another movie directed by & starring Clint Eastwood and 1977’s Best Picture nominee THE TURNING POINT. HBO Comedy: Laugh it up with independent unknowns like ALL THE REAL GIRLS, corny slop like EUROTRIP, modern favorites like THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA or comedy classics like Mel Brooks’ TO BE OR NOT TO BE. You choose. HBO Zone: A risk-management specialist is sent to her company’s remote lab to evaluate a genetically engineered young girl in MORGAN or a luxury cruise ship’s maiden voyage takes a ‘titanic’ turn for the worse when it comes under attack by a hostile sea monster in DEEP RISING. Either movie spells bad news. IN THE LAND OF WOMEN and NEVER DIE ALONE offer more dramatic fare to the channel. HBONow/Go: You could just wander around the streaming site of choice until you fall upon the next great HBO entertainment to enjoy or you can cut to the chase and select one of the packaged collections that group content in one spot. For example, if you want to catch a movie before it exits the scene find the Last Chance Collection. This month offers the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise, the HARRY POTTER franchise and KONG: SKULL ISLAND. But if you go to the Just Added Collection movies added 06.01 will include THE FULL MONTY, JERSEY BOYS, FLETCH and SYLVIA. Or how about WESTWORLD: SEASON 2 EXTRAS, a collection that has, to date, eleven (11) behind-the-scenes clip all in one location. Me, I just like to snoop around and discover such works as THR BRINK, THE PACT, EL JARDIN DE BRONCE and THE FINAL YEAR. If any of those titles are mysteries to you than you don’t snoop the streaming sits nearly enough.

Cinemax: This channel kicks off a new series from J. K. Rowling. C.B. STRIKE, debuting FRIDAY, JUNE 01 (10:00-11:00pm), followed by other episodes subsequent Fridays at the same time, is a riveting miniseries based on the best-selling crime novels by Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The story centers on Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke), who lost part of his right leg while serving in the army in Afghanistan, and returned from the war to start a one-man private-detective firm. Although wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike’s instincts and his background as a military-police investigator prove crucial in solving cases that have baffled the police. Joining Strike in the search for clues is Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger), who starts working as Strike’s temporary assistant and is soon as immersed in his investigations as she is to details of his illustrious yet troubled past. The series launches with three one-hour episodes based on the first book in the trilogy, “The Cuckoo’s Calling” (directed by Michael Keillor), followed by adaptations of the remaining two books, “The Silkworm” (directed by Kieron Hawkes) and “Career of Evil” (directed by Charles Sturridge), both of which consist of two one-hour episodes.
