As far as the nasty buyout goes, there is still a wing & a prayer that it DOES NOT go forward. That is this guy’s big hope, and my sentiments shadow the words of this Deadline piece. There has been a lot of outcry over the whole situation. Around here, we say, crush the offer and let WBD, or at least Warner Brothers, stand on its own. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and, for now, looking at what HBO has to offer for April 2026.

A few quick points:

  • Some HACKS and a HALF MAN join us
  • And, if we’re name-droppin’, there’s CHRISTY and ALIEN: ROMULUS too
  • Plus, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention MARTY SUPREME
  • Also, Ramy Youssef Returns
  • And the DARK WIZARD Arrives
  • And finally, we’ll experience a bit of EUPHORIA!

HBO Original Series: We lead off with the new title for the month – HALF MAN. HBO and the BBC have HalfMan_Posterannounced that this original six-episode limited series from Emmy-winning creator and executive producer Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer, Against the Law) will debut THURSDAY, APRIL 23, on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.  Actual time is not listed. Niall and Ruben are brothers. Not related in blood, but the closest you can get. One, fierce and loyal. The other, meek and mild-mannered. Inseparable youth. Brought into each other’s lives through death and circumstance, all they have is each other… But when Ruben turns up at Niall’s wedding three decades later, everything seems different. He is on edge. Shifty. Not acting like himself. And soon, an explosion of violence takes place, which catapults us back through their lives, from the eighties to the present day. Capturing 30 years in the lives of these broken men, this show explores brotherhood, violence, and the intense fragility of male relationships. After all, when things fall apart… It is sometimes the closest relationships which break the hardest.

The series is created, written, and executive produced by Richard Gadd Starring alongside him are Jamie Bell, Stuart Campbell, Mitchell Robertson, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, Anjli Mohindra, Tim Downie, Tom Andrews, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Sandy Batchelor, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, and newcomers Charlotte Blackwood, Calum Manchip, and Kate Robson-Stuart.

Euphoria-S3_PosterThe next show we must list is EUPHORIA! Finally, the long-awaited return of the series is before us, but does its long absence hurt its following? We don’t have long to wait for the answer as it returns to HBO on SUNDAY, APRIL 12. We are very simply told  – A group of childhood friends wrestles with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil. Remember, it is a few more years down the road of life. Our characters are no longer in high school. Some friends have died or moved on, and others face life in a way not expected. Are you out to join them and accept them again as Sam Levinson has designed them? It plays out on Sundays for eight consecutive weeks, ending May 31. Series regulars include Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Toby Wallace.

Also on the slate, we find that DTF ST. LOUIS has two more installments to offer. Are you following the little crime that went down in St. Louis? Just who killed Floyd (David Harbour) and why? What has the dating app DTF revealed about its participants? Is Clark (Jason Bateman, the #1 suspect) off the hook? Will we be surprised by Detective Donoghue Homer and special crimes officer Jodie Plumb’s resolution of the matter? Stay tuned as we pick up the story on SUNDAY, APRIL 05.

Original Series Exclusive to HBO Max: We finally come around to the end of a great show and great characters when HACKS returns for its fifth and final season. Not having that, Deborah states that they are going to set their careers back on track, and with Ava Daniels in tow, Season Five sets out to do just that. Who are you calling a hack?

StageDream-300x206HBO International Titles: Only two titles to notice, I guess, starting with DREAM STAGE, uploading to HBO Max beginning on April 03. Leading global trends and the music scene, sweeping the world of K-POP, this series emerges from Japan. The translate tagline I found states, “Behind the glamorous stage, young people are aiming for the top. There is fierce competition..It is truly a treasure trove of passionate human dramas as this drama aims to transcend generations and nationalities, and to show the bond between important friends. A depiction of a strong bond. “K-POP version of a ‘sports drama'” Yeah, let me perhaps make it a bit more appealing – It tells the story of the strong bond between a Japanese male producer who was expelled from the industry for causing trouble in the past, and seven dropout trainees from a small Korean entertainment agency, who work together to pursue their International_Deeply-203x300dreams, transcending generations and nationalities to live their dreams of making a pop sensation. The other title hails from Turkey, which is rare. It is DEEPLY (ilk ve son) debuting on HBO Max on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 01. No fooling. It is described this way – “Everything is known by its opposite. The best way to describe the light is to show the darkness first.” Deeply, it is the adventure of Deniz and Barış’s unbridled love spanning 10 years. The relationship of two young people who met in their mid-20s and lasted until their late 30’s. A love story, sometimes sunny, sometimes stormy, sometimes possible, often impossible.

HBO & HBO Max Theatrical Movies: There are four Saturdays in April, and we luck out with a new movie on each one. The titles of the month are Alien: Romulus, Christy, Dust Bunny, and Marty Supreme. We announce each one in turn below.

Man, the Alien franchise just does not let up. 20th Century Fox touts that ALIEN: ROMULUS is a return to the roots of the franchise, a return of the horror flick Ridley Scott designed. It is the seventh installment in the film series, set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu as six downtrodden young space colonists who encounter hostile creatures while scavenging a derelict space station in which they plan to navigate to another planet. As the trailer above indicates, it all goes horribly wrong. Each life phase of the xenomorph seems to be present on the derelict space station. The film reached acclaim as perhaps one of the best of the franchise. The movie debuts on HBO on SATURDAY, APRIL 04 (8:00-10:02 pm ET/PT) and on HBO Max the night prior. If you want a real treat and can do a Saturday binge-watch on the 4th, check out Alien beginning at 7:45 am ET, followed by Aliens at 9:44 am ET, followed by Aliens 3 at 12:02 pm ET, followed by Alien: Resurrection at 2:00 pm ET, followed by Prometheus at 3:50 pm, followed by Alien: Movies_Christy-213x300Covenant at 5:55 pm ET, and then this debut. That sounds like a thrilling marathon, yeah?

From Black Bear Film comes the biography called CHRISTY. It debuts SATURDAY, APRIL 11 (8:00-10:18 pm ET/PT) and on HBO Max the night prior. Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney, of HBO’s EUPHORIA and THE WHITE LOTUS ) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia—until she discovered a knack for punching people. Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Ben Foster, of HBO’s SIX FEET UNDER).  But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it—confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death. Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.

Then there is a movie from Lionsgate the next week. Debuting SATURDAY, APRIL 18 (8:00-9:45 pm ET/PT) and on HBO Max the night prior. DUST BUNNY is a 2025 fantasy action film written, produced, and Movies_DustBunnydirected by Bryan Fuller in his feature film directorial debut. It stars Mads Mikkelsen, Sophie Sloan, Sheila Atim, David Dastmalchian, and Sigourney Weaver. It follows a hit man who is approached by an eight-year-old girl to kill the “monster” under her bed that she claims “ate” her family, suspecting they were actually killed by dangerous assassins who are after him. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2025, followed by a theatrical release in the United States in December. Mark your calendar for SATURDAY, APRIL 25 (8:00-10:30 pm ET/PT) for the Oscar-nominated MARTY SUPREME. HBO and HBO Max offer plenty of opportunities to view it if you haven’t seen it. This sports drama, directed by Josh Safdie, who co-wrote it with Ronald Bronstein. it stars Timothée Chalamet; he plays Marty Mauser, an aspiring table tennis champion, fiercely determined to be the best in the sport. The character is loosely based on real-life table tennis player Marty Reisman. Appearing as his mother is Fran Drescher and Gwyneth Paltrow, who has deescalated her acting career, as of late. There are also cameos by Sandra Bernhard, sports figures George Gervin and Ted Williams, plus Penn Jillette, David Mamet, and Robert Pattinson in an uncredited role.

Some of the classic movies rotating in look as if they’ll park in the TCM Hub. There is Fort Dobbs, Fort Worth, Gunsmoke in Tucson, Inu-Oh, Man From the Black Hills, Rancho Notorious, Riding Shotgun, and Rocky Mountain. More recent fare includes Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, Practical Magic, The Devil Wears Prada, Nanny McPhee Returns, and more.

HBO Documentary Films: The title on the schedule has been bumped down to HBO Sports. So, April is a month for you to catch up on some documentaries that you’ve missed. HBO Original Specials: First, we need to give recognition to the HBO comedy special that just slipped on the schedule long after March’s post was in place. So let us call out COLOR THEORIES BY JULIO TORRES. This special, fresh off its Off-Broadway run, debuted on FRIDAY, MARCH 27. The one-hour and thirteen-minute special shows of Julio’s quirky style has he splashes us with his world of color. If you recall, his first special was all about shapes. Here, in his second HBO comedy special, Peabody-winner Julio Torres (HBO’s FANTASMAS and LOS ESPOOKYS) presents a helpful guide to understanding the world through his playful interpretations of colors. Taking the stage in New York City as an expert on the inherent traits of particular colors, Julio explores the nuances of rule-based navy blue to the rage of red through hilarious observations from his life and culture at large. Blending stand-up with other media, this unique comedy special invites us to see the people, places, and things around us through Julio’s kaleidoscopic lens.

Also returning for another HBO special is Arabic comedian Ramy Youssef. For some reason, we don’t have a premiere date, show title, or trailer for this set, but it is on the slate. The press release states – Debuts thisPeople_Ramy-Youssef-300x255 April

HBO Sports: The banner doesn’t really do anything anymore except HARD KNOCKS titles. But, like the professional bowling documentary from last month, I add this sports-themed documentary series to this category. It is DARK WIZARD. This four-part documentary series is an unflinching portrait of Dean Potter, one of the world’s most influential and controversial climbers, BASE jumpers, and highline walkers. The series traces the jaw-dropping feats that made him a legend, as well as the personal turmoil that defined his life. It debuts TUESDAY, APRIL 14, Tuesday nights being the traditional HBO Sports night. The series offers four half-hour segments over four weeks. Here is the trailer.

Other Shows On HBO or HBO Max: Just skimming HBO.com’s schedulebot to see what might catch my eye. How about the musical version of The Color Purple or The Mummy and The Mummy Returns on HBO Hits? Over on HBO Drama, the entire series CARNAVALE plays out beginning on THURSDAY, APRIL 02, and on Carnavale_picSATURDAY, APRIL 04, on that same channel, EUPHORIA begins all over again with the first episode. HBO Movies offers movies of every genre, from family fare like Shaun the Sheep Movie, to classics like  The Curse of Frankenstein from 1957, to modern flicks like Everything Everywhere All At Once and BarbieHBO Latino is presenting titles like Guerras Ajenas, an older documentary about organized crime in South America, and the relationship drama Shadows. In short, we’re sure you’ll find something.

Next Month’s Tease: Not much is known about what is new in May, so I’ll just throw out a guess. This artist stated, “I’m excited to have my breakout piece be with a company that nurtures vision like HBO does. I’m grateful to them, and you, for watching.” It will be titled SYMPHONY, but who is the artist?

Last Month’s Tease: We simply stated last month that Rue returns. That, of course, means that EUPHORIA returns with Zendaya and a cast of many in April.

Final Clip: We leave you with a double dose this month. HBO has just dropped a second trailer for EUPHORIA, so here it is.

Plus, we bumped out the trailer for the movie DUST BUNNY above, so here it is as well.
