April is almost upon us, and that means it is nearly time for Season Two of Westworld to grace our screens. The show last aired in December of 2016, but despite the generous amount of time that has elapsed between then and now, there has still been an enthusiastic response from audiences who loved Season One’s twists and turns, even if they needed a bit of a refresher on some of the intricacies of the its nuanced, not to mention non-linear, plot.

29541595_1899865610043716_7336559944142946304_nAfter releasing a trailer  for the upcoming season earlier this year at the Superbowl, HBO dropped a poster on the 22nd– one month exactly from the season premiere. In honor of Westworld‘s cryptic style of storytelling, the poster and later a teaser trailer were unveiled via a cyber scavenger hunt centered around the show’s official Twitter account.

The Season 2 poster features an eerie, animatronic vulture on a barren wasteland, surrounded by blood and someone’s abandoned cowboy hat. “Chaos takes control,” the tagline tells us as the animated version of the poster, available on Westworld‘s Twitter page, glitches in and out. That’s not all however. The poster apparently held a code which leads to an enigmatic teaser for the upcoming season, mainly featuring footage of doors from both the previous and upcoming seasons. You can check it out below:

The use of “door” thematics is less confusing than it might otherwise be, given that the showrunners of Westworld, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy recently revealed that they bestow each season of the show with a fittingly topical code-name. According to them, Season One was aptly called, “The Maze,” while  Season Two has the moniker of “The Door.” This seems like a pretty good hint that we can expect to see main characters leaving the artificial worlds of Delos Inc. behind this season– no wonder we’re getting promises of chaos.

With all this talk of doors, the Game of Thrones fan in me wonders if we won’t get any subtle homages to that show’s infamous Hodor scene. It wouldn’t be the first time Westworld tipped its hat at HBO’s other massively popular series.

We can doubtless expect more hints at the chaos that HBO promises is coming this April 22nd. Keep checking in with us for the latest Westworld news.
