Popping up on HBO this Spring is the renowned drag queens Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley. If you are like me, you surely said, “Who’d you say?” Out of that culture if your name isn’t RuPaul then I don’t know you. Little fun fact: I don’t watch his current competition show but my first glimpse of drag queen diva RuPaul was on an installment of HBO’s REAL SEX back in the day.
Well, there will be no mistaking the trio of queens (former contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race) making a splash on HBO this year when WE’RE HERE debuts THURSDAY, APRIL 23 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. They will add a splash of color as they sashay their way across the USA to bring out the inner drag queen out of those willing to play along. As previously stated, the six-part unscripted series recruits small-town residents across America to participate in a one-night-only drag show.
Caldwell Tidicue personifies Bob the Drag Queen and won Season 8 on RuPaul’s show. NYC is this queen’s turf. David Huggard is Eureka O’Hara. Originally from Tennessee, this queen has been big in the drag pageantry scene and has been on more than one season of Drag Race. Shangela is actually Darius Jeremy Pierce who has a number of TV & film appearances besides RuPaul’s competition show, including in the Oscar-buzzed A Star Is Born.
The title of the show no doubt hails from the rallying cry of the gay community – “We’re queer and we’re here.” It signifies that like it or not, uncomfortable or not, the subset is a part of the community and is not going away. The whole drag queen scene is certainly alive in the culture and HBO gives us a look into their whole vibe in a fun sort of way. Work Miss Thing and have fun!
