HBO has announced today that Damon Lindelof’s take on the WATCHMEN got the green light to go to series. Direct from HBO.com comes the following announcement:

Watchmen has officially joined HBO‘s 2019 lineup. Here’s everything to know so far about Damon Lindelof’s new series.

What’s the story? Based on the Alan Moore graphic novel, Watchmen is set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws. And while Lindelof (THE LEFTOVERS) plans to embrace the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel, the series will also attempt to break new ground of its own.WatchmenHBO-300x113

Who will I recognize? Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune) is the latest actor to join the cast. You can also expect to see Regina King (THE LEFTOVERS); Golden Globe-winner Don Johnson (Miami Vice); Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow); Frances Fisher (Titanic); Jacob Ming-Trent (Superfly); Tim Blake Nelson (Lincoln, HBO’s WARM SPRINGS); Oscar-winner Louis Gossett Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman); Adelaide Clemens (PARADE’S END, The Great Gatsby); Andrew Howard (The Brave, BOARDWALK EMPIRE); Yahya Abdul-Matteen II (First Match), and Sara Vickers (Endeavor).

Who are the new faces to watch out for? Also joining the cast are young actors Dylan Schombing (SHARP OBJECTS, Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce), Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries), and Adelynn Spoon.

What’s going on behind the camera? Lindelof, who will be a writer on the show, will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Nicole Kassell and Tom Spezialy. Kassell (Westworld, The Leftovers) is slated to direct the pilot episode. The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.

I was never 100% confident that WATCHEMEN was going to become q series. HBO liked what it saw in the pilot & trusted Lindelof to deliver something exciting and unique. Now, all we have to do is wait for 2019 to roll around. HBOWatch will keep you informed.

“Nothing ever ends”. This is one of numerous celebrated quotes in literature, yet the median of this literature is not a short story, novel, novella, or poem. “Nothing Ever Ends” was said by a sentinel being in the graphic novel Watchmen, a work so profound that it is on numerous academic and literary best works of fiction lists. With HBO’s announcement that Watchmen is going to series, this is a sign that superb programming will not end at HBO.

Yes, it does and though it will mean more work for us around here we are so looking forward to HBO revamping its formula a bit.
