The rumors can cease about the name of WarnerMedia’s upcoming one-stop streaming shop. A name has been officially declared, a logo has been drawn and a video to announce it has been released. Coming in 2020 will be HBO MAX as noted in the logo pic above; I’ll get to the clip in a second.

The streaming outlet, even though it carries the letters H, B & O in its title, will carry a lot more than the content that always starts with TV static. The site will also present content from a long library of classics to current content from Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth and Looney Tunes for starters. Plus, there will original content generated. The result will be a powerhouse media service that will likely be far too pricey for most of us. While you ponder that check the promo out.

That clip featured heavily on HBO shows, didn’t it? Not only did it slip in some of the big series over the years but it also added some of the big movies that have played as of late. Yeah, everyone is talking about how Friends is a big expensive title brought home but they know the big draw will be HBO content, right? Sure they do or it would not have dominated in the promo and the title of the service wouldn’t be pimping out the HBO brand. Get ready for a rant here!

THE NAME SUCKS! HBO MAX? This HBOWatch editor does not like it. Here we go with the watering down of the HBO brand name. A more encompassing title should have been used. I can think of several that could work (some better than others to be sure). How about WarnerVue, WarnerVision, WarnerPlex, WarnerExtreme, WarnerPlace, WarnerNetwork, WarnerElite, UltraWarner, MegaWarner orWarnerPresents? Hell, even Warner+ would make me happier.

WarnerMedia-300x154Maybe, it is just me; you can tell me in the comments if it is. HBO MAX is a redundant name with the other sites out there and I hope and pray WarnerMedia keeps up with its promise to maintainHBONow/Go for those of us who just want self-contained HBO content. And what about CINEMAX and its MAX branding? Will it change now or perhaps even be dissolved altogether? Plus, with all the additional content on the site, I got to ask about the price. It has to be more than the $15 dollars we are used to paying.

Of course, the price structure and functionality of the site has all to be worked out yet. But we do know a bit about the rollout of it. Says Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment, “HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is Friends.” WarnerMedia has also stated that a beta version of the site will be out by the end of 2019, with a full-bodied version in spring 2020. An ad-supported offering is also in the works, though HBOStatic02-300x132subscription will be the first phase.

As for specific new HBO content to drop to the site, there are a number of projects in the works that are projected to be in front of viewers who sign up in early 2020. Some of those titles include – Stephen King’s THE OUTSIDER, LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, THE NEVERS, THE GILDED AGE, AVENUE 5, THE UNDOING, THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA, PERRY MASON, and I KNOW TIS MUCH IS TRUE.

Are you excited about the developments? The TV landscape is changing with Netflix and Amazon Prime about to be challenged by HBO MAX, Disney+ and the unnamed NBC/Universal megasite. Stay tuned it will be interesting. Oh, AND THE NAME STILL SUCKS!

The only thing I care about is whether the new service will include a comprehensive collection of older, unavailable HBO material such as sports documentaries, comedy specials, cancelled shows, america undercover documentaries, real sex, etc. that is not currently available. If they don’t include more HBO content than what is currently available, I will have no use for this product.

Yeah, I hear you there. I’m worried about not having the money to buy into all the mega-sites just to watch programs.

I am excited about the content and possibilities. But for a company that usually manifests memorable slogans, the name is a little bland. Warner+ or Warner Vision were good suggestions.

Yeah, WarnerVision was my preferred one too actually.
