Struan-Rodger__1381962473_80.111.44.50Thanks to the keen eyes of our friends at WiC, we now have confirmation that a much speculated-upon character will be appearing in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. According to his CV, British actor Struan Rodger has been cast as the Three-Eyed Raven.

Mr. Rodger should be familiar to UK viewers of the show, as he has appeared in Law and OrderChandler and Co., and Rumpole of the Bailey. Perhaps most memorably, he provided voice acting work for the Face of Boe in two episodes of Doctor Who.

WARNING: SPOILERS

The Three-Eyed Raven (or Three-Eyed Crow in A Song of Ice and Fire canon), is widely believed to be Bloodraven, former Hand of King Aerys I Targaryen, and Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. He is a crucial character in Bran’s storyline.

Author’s Note: I’m surprised yet enthused by this casting; I don’t think anyone really expected Bran’s storyine to have progressed this much by the end of season 4. Mr Rodger’s certainly has the voice and talent for the role. I wonder how much work the make-up department will have to do for his scenes?!

Game of Thrones season 4 will premiere in spring of 2014.  We’ll provide an exact air date here when we have it.

I love Bloodraven and the Three-Eyed Raven. I want to hear more about his past, too, so I hope we get that.

He’s my favorite character in Dunk & Egg, I really hope we see more of him in The She-Wolves of Winterfell.

Awesome. He’s the most fascinating character in the whole A Song of Ice and Fire mythos, in my opinion. I would have cast Christopher Lee, but that’s an unrealistic expectation.

That’s an interesting opinion, but I think that Lee’s presence would be a bit too commanding for the role!

True. Lee has a very powerful voice, whereas Bloodraven sounds like he has forgotten how to speak.
