We are sure everyone is quite aware that the third season of Mike White’s third season of THE WHITE LOTUS is about to debut. Okay, it won’t hurt to remind you all one more time – – the eight-episode third season debuts SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. With that out of the way, we can ask if you were aware however that the fourth season has already been booked.
The first installment, which premiered in July 2021, was set in Hawaii and received 20 Emmy nominations across 13 categories and ten wins, the most wins of any program that year including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The second installment, which premiered in December 2022, was set in Sicily and garnered 23 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and five wins.
But each time a new season is announced we start the process of wondering which fictitious White Lotus Resort will the show take place next time. That ‘next time’ is happening but, of course, we don’t have any clues of locale, cast, or plot; we are not even 100% sure what is going to take place this season let alone the next one. Back in early December of 2022, we posted “THE WHITE LOTUS Renewed for Season Three” with no clue where the show was headed. That is the case for Season Four as well.
Apparently, there was a dialog between show creator White and HBO programming head Casey Bloys, with any specifics known only by them, to warrant a green light to move forward. Bloys did state when he dropped by the Thailand set that if – “Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the fourth season — he will do the fourth season.” It sounds like Bloys would bankroll anything Mike White wanted. Even back when Season 3 was still filming he sounds like he is onboard without question or even scant details.
So, that is all good for fans and HBO but production wouldn’t get going on it until 2026, after ample writing time. And, who knows White’s process he might write the characters and their situations and not plug in the locale until way later. We will keep you posted though no answer will come for a long while. At least you’ll have time to check out the HBO Shop for these pictured items and others, plus three seasons of THE WHITE LOTUS to enjoy in the meantime.
