Folks, it’s time to congratulate yourselves. You have survived this mind-numbingly, insane, illogical season. I’m proud of you!

standing-ovation-o

Congratulations! You survived!

Unfortunately, not everyone lived to see this 70th episode with us. A brief tribute to the (permanently) dead:

Luna Garza.
We saw you for a few minutes this season, you entrusted your child to your boyfriend of a few weeks (who then, after two or so episodes, dumped her with her grandmother who you hated), and then you died. I missed you. You were one of the strong females in the show, and now you’re gone. Plus, after all your work to save Emma, you should have been able to spend time with her. You are missed… even if Sam moved on completely and never thought about you again. Bad Sam!

Gov. Truman Burrell.
Sorry, no one cares. The grossest thing about your death was Sarah Newlin kissing your decapitated head that looked super fake anyway.
Nora Gainesborough. You will be missed… and remembered as a disintegrated pile of goo. Because of you, Eric went into a crazy Viking rampage. I will always love you for giving us that in an otherwise fairly light violence season.

Terry Bellefleur. You toyed with our feelings by dying, confused us with whether or not you were buried, and gave us insight we may or may not have wanted with the flashbacks at your funeral. Thanks?

I give up on this show.

This review is going to go fairly chronologically because we weren’t in 20 different places this week. As far as the episode goes, well, I opt for the True Death. How can this series get any worse? This season has been abysmally bad, and it’s been renewed for another season. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’ve been a Truebie from season 1. I’ve read all the books. I love this show. But really, guys? Really, directors and producers? THIS is the best you could do?

With this episode’s title being “Radioactive,” I was seriously hoping for some Imagine Dragons to come pouring through my speakers. And they did not disappoint! I’m pounding out the beat on my computer right now. Way to go, TB! Let’s see how long my favorable opinion lasts… Oh, wait, it’s already gone with the first scene. Anyway, let’s get this started! (Please don’t ask me to rate this episode. I don’t want to be dealing with negative numbers at the moment.)

Sookie and Alcide are walking through the graveyard after Terry’s funeral. Probably this should be more charming, what with Alcide being supportive and offering life advice, but it’s not. He makes a comment about the ground and Sookie tries to joke about him laying cement for a living, but it just fails. Plus we’ve spent far too much time in the cemetery this season. Yes, that does include Fairyland. Alcide says something about wanting to get in Sookie’s head, to which she says it’s not a place many people want to go. Alcide smells vampires but wait! It’s during the day! How is this happening? So they go to the Compton Place, where the vampires are daywalking. Bill’s shirt is torn and bloody, but everyone’s walking and skipping and being happy outside. People are taking off their clothes, running around, kissing – basically, it’s a vampire free love fest. Jessica invites everyone into the house, but no one goes. Pam is doing cartwheels and rolling around on the ground. The vamps are trying to decide what games to play outside, and croquet and volleyball sound good. One guy even yells, “Who’s making a Target run?” What they don’t say until later is that all these vamps are higher than kites from that fairy/vampire/Billith blood, or whatever the heck it is. Sookie thinks it a great idea to join the vampires and starts to head over there, but Alcide isn’t happy with that. But y’all, Sookie is a survivor! So who cares if her fairy blood is delicious and the vampires are high and in the sun and this makes zero sense, right? The show keeps trying to make her into a martyr or something and it’s not working; instead, she’s coming across as emo and immature and is NOT a strong woman. But hey, don’t forget, she says she’s a survivor!

Sookie meets Violet, who has Jason kinda wrapped up in a tree and is feeding on him. He has three or four open wounds, but it’s all good! Violet gives him some of her blood instead of having sex with him. Violet gets super jealous of Sookie being Jason’s sister, then decides that Sookie is her sister… which means it’s time to make out with her? (Was I the only one getting a “Game of Thrones” feel on that?) Pam and Tara come over, hug Sookie, and talk about how amazing the light is. I get it – you’re vampires and creatures of the night. But Tara, you’ve been a vamp for, what, three weeks? Four?  You remember the sun. Tara does give us them gem of a quote, though: “Bill gave us his magical blood and now there’s light!” Uh… What? I think that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard a television character say, and yet it sums up the last episode. So yeah… Sookie says goodbye and goes off to Fairyland.

And guess what she finds? Why, a lovely decorated cemetery filled with light, a chandelier, a maypole, garland, flowers… You know what? Here’s a picture:

Fairyland-Wedding

Aww, it’s a Fairyland Cemetery Wedding – how romantic!

Benlow has outdone himself with decorations for his wedding to Sookie turning Sookie into his fairy vampire bride. That is still the weirdest phrase ever. I would make some kind of comment about the maypole and all being very odd in a cemetery but, hey, it’s “True Blood” and logic fails. Sookie tries to hold off on the wedding and being turned because, in the four hours she’s been gone, everything has changed: “It’s not the amount of time. It’s that I just watched my friend get buried,” she says.

tumblr_m9sjci64m01qbh0eio1_500

Let’s have a collective eye roll at Sookie logic, everyone.

Yeah, sure. Benlow blows that off by saying he’s seen way more people die and it’s all cool. Sookie wants her say, though: “There’s no denying I have feelings for you. You’ve awakened something in me. But what has changed is that my friends are safe and you’re no longer in danger. So there’s no ticking clock.” Basically, Sookie, you are stalling and DON’T keep your promises. She knows just what will make their eternal relationship work: dating! Yes. Let’s introduce a 5,500+ year old fairy vampire to your friends, boss, brother, and the town. That sounds terrific, Sookie. But no no no! Benlow is having none of it – and rightly so. He hits Sookie, then grabs her and snarls, “Who the f**k do you think you’re talking to?” Oh no! A male threatened Sookie! I bet he dies. Who wants to take bets on this with me? You know you’ll lost because he was introduced only for this season as the bad guy. Why must you follow this formula ALWAYS, TB? It’s so old after 6 seasons!

Back at the Compton Place, the vampires are playing volleyball. Jason and Jessica exchange high-fives, Violet gets pissed and directs a serve straight at Jessica, Jessica falls over… Oh, yeah. This Jason-Violet-“Jason is mine!” thing is totally going to work. Pam is coming off her blood buzz and wonders where Eric is. As she’s watching everyone frolic in the sun, she’s been deciding that Eric needs to be found. Amen, Pam!! When Tara tries to stop her, Pam threatens to release Tara. Before she leaves, she tells Tara to watch after Willa (where IS Willa???) before flying off to find Eric.

Bill is inside, in the dark, brooding, because that’s all Bill is good for these days. He’s no longer Billith because, when he fed all of the vamps, he lost his powers. Or something. You really can’t tell if he’s lost his powers or not, but he’s sure determined to blame it on Sookie, because what else is she good for these days? Jess comes in and talks to Bill about what he’s doing. He tells her about Benlow and the Sookie Situation. “Bill Compton would walk through fire to save her life!” Jess yells. Yeah, Bill Compton, not Billith. Apparently Jess has yet to make that distinction. Jason comes in and, after hearing what’s up with Benlow and telling everything that Benlow killed his parents, it’s “Let’s Go Save Sookie!” time. And I thought we’d get through a season without it… Then Jason threatens to kill Bill over putting Sookie in this situation and the Vampire A-Team (+Jason) roll out to grab half-fae Adilyn who can open the door to Fairyland.

Jason arrives at Andy’s and explains the Benlow situation. If Adilyn doesn’t come, all hope is lost! Or something like. Andy says no, Adilyn says yes, and, of course, the two week old halfling wins the fight. Her logic: she couldn’t save her sisters, but she may be able to save Sookie. Side note: how has she stopped growing? Has she just planed off or something? How did Andy explain her to his grandmother or people at the funeral? What could happen because only one of the four and not half of them survived to adulthood? Oh wait, continuity and logic + “True Blood.”  Never mind. Andy finally gives in and decides to help, but “We’re going in heavy.” Not surprisingly, Andy has an impressive arsenal of vampire-killing weapons.

Back in Fairyland, Sookie is tied to the maypole, and not in a good, happy way. Benlow is walking around monologuing and being an evil villain: “Do you think I’ve waited 5,500 years to be a part of your community? To share you with your friends of low birth in f***ing Bon Temps?” See, he’s still angsty because he was never meant to be a vampire and Lilith ruined his life and all that jazz that I don’t care about. These two emos deserve each other. Sookie breaks free and threatens to throw away her light, but Benlow stops her. Before turning her, Benlow sums up Sookie pretty well: “You risk everything on the hope that you are special, that you’ll be saved by some unique love the vampires have for you. But you should’ve trusted your first instinct. You knew me better than I knew myself, because as it turns out I do just want to f**k you and own you and use you for your blood.” Then night falls and he launches himself at her neck. Hey, she did call herself the town whore earlier. Just sayin’…

The Vampire/Fairy/Human A-Team is on the move! Bill shows up to help them out. Violet scares Adilyn into using her light to open the portal, and then they’re in the Fairyland. (This show just gets cornier and cornier.) Jason shoots Sookie free (no joke), Bill attacks Benlow, Violet grabs Sookie, Benlow gets impaled on a stone angel wing but doesn’t die (haha), Bill sacrifices himself so that the Vampire A-Team can get away with Sookie, and then they disappear. Of course, without his powers and being a moper again, Bill is nothing more than a nuisance to Benlow, and both escape Fairyland to get Sookie in a final burst of light.

Die-Benlow-Die

Just die already, Benlow! No one likes you!

At the Stackhouse Place, Violet gives Sookie some of her blood. Benlow appears, nearly kills Andy, Violet, and Jason, then explains to Bill that Lilith and his (her?) powers are gone before blasting him out of the house. In this moment, I like you, Benlow. Bill needs to be blasted more often. The point is that Benlow cannot be killed by anything apparently. Where is Niall when you need him? He’d know what to do! Then again, he tracked Warlow for centuries and didn’t know Ben was Warlow, so… Oh wait. Logic! Anyway, Benlow locks Jason, Andy, and Adilyn up in Eric’s cubbyhole and seals it with light, which Adilyn breaks through thanks to her fairy powers. Benlow finds Sookie trying to create the light orb in the shower, grabs her, and gets ready to feed. But then! NIALL REAPPEARS THROUGH THE PORTAL! He grabs Benlow, Jason stakes Benlow, and Benlow dies with “Sookie” as his dying word.

yippie

He’s dead! He’s finally dead!

Of course, no one really figured Benlow would become a fixture of the show, so another season-introduced character dies in the season finale. With With Benlow’s death, though, the magical blood loses its powers, and the vamps can no longer daywalk… which is bad news for a certain Viking vampire sunbathing naked in Sweden:

true-blood-eric-dies-eric

Sunbathing Viking

eric-burning

See all this shade? He’ll be fine!

Now look, we all know that if Eric dies, the show is over. We could do a poll right here and know who would watch the show without Eric, and I guarantee that at least 80% of people would no longer watch. Also: there’s shade right nearby. He can vamp run into that. AND Pam was flying to find him. She’s going to scoop in at the last minute and save him. If “True Blood” actually kills off Eric, NO ONE will watch anymore. Please tell me that the show understands this very simply principle.

We jump 6 months into the future because this show likes to confuse us. Sookie and Alcide are together. Bill wrote a best-selling book about being Billith, killing Gov. Burrell, Hep V, and everything from this season, but, even though he confessed to murdering God knows how many people, no one cares or is considering prosecution against him. I’m still wondering what the heck happened to Eric, but continue, storyline. Jason and Violet are still together, but not having sex quite yet – well, Jason isn’t getting any, to put it mildly. I don’t care. WHERE IS ERIC?

There’s a meeting at a church, and that preacher that married Tara’s mom is on the pulpit. I can’t remember his name because WHERE IS ERIC???? Outside, Sam (who is now the mayor?) and Andy have a debate about separating church and state. Inside, there are blood tests being done to find out who is Hep V positive. No one trusts anyone. Wow, it’s a big ole WELCOME BACK TO BON TEMPS, Y’ALL! Nicole is still around and very pregnant. Sam takes the pulpit and promotes a monogamous feeding relationship with a vampire to protect yourself against the roaming Hep V positive vamps. What the heck? What did I just see and hear??? Arlene has bought Merlotte’s and turned it into Bellefleur’s Bar and Grille where there will be an outdoors human and vampire mingle that night. Apparently the directors were true to their word in saying that all the stories would return to Bon Temps, but really? Monogamous feeding relationships? What the heck, people? AND WHERE IS LAFAYETTE IN THIS EPISODE???

At the mingling (I have no creative words left, so go with me), Tara’s mom, Lettie Mae, apologizes to Tara for everything that ever went wrong in her life. Again. For the third or tenth time now, I’ve lost count. Lettie Mae has guilt over not feeding Tara when she was younger. I get it – guilt issues follow you forever. She willingly offers herself and her neck to Tara. But what’s the endgame here? I think Lettie Mae is Hep V positive and trying to kill her daughter. Tara takes the bait, er, bite and feeds on her mom. Gross…..

Jess shows up at the Bellefleur Mansion and apologizes for killing three of Andy’s children, but ensures that Adilyn and he will always have her protection. Even if they don’t want it, which they don’t.

Bill finds Sookie and Alcide leaving the mingling and he asks for time alone with Sookie. Alcide refuses. Bill insists that she needs a vampire in her life for protection, which ticks off Alcide understandably. So what does Bill do? Offer her his protection. Then everyone smells something… INCOMING HEP V VAMPS who are not sick and weak like Nora, but strong and patrolling the woods at night for helpless human victims like zombies searching for brains!! Why there would be an outside party AT NIGHT when roving vampires are on the loose makes no sense to me, but, hey, it’s “True Blood,” so logic fails again. We end the season with these creepy Hep V vamps going after the people at the mingling.

tumblr_mmv3123nBb1sp9fcho1_500

THE SEASON IS FINALLY OVER!

And the episode ends, and, thank God, so does the season. This episode was pointless filler and ending plots that were going nowhere as soon as they aired. What a lousy season. I could care less what happens to Bon Temps and Sookie and Bill and Alcide and all of them. I don’t care about Nicole being pregnant with Sam’s kid. I DON’T CARE. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHERE ERIC IS, DARN IT. And so does the rest of the world.

REACTIONS FROM FELLOW HBOWATCH WRITERS:
Tamara: I could have eaten a box of Alphabits and crapped a better script than that. I doubt if Eric is dead. Pam went after him, and we didn’t see her at the end, either.

MJ: This episode was awful, I was so bummed. It felt like it was endless and Eric? Really? Gods if he’s gone there will be no one watching next year. And that was cheezily done, too. Sookie with Alcide makes me so annoyed and I don’t like Nicole hanging around at all. I am so annoyed with Sookie in general and I really don’t like Violet. :P And why does Tara look like a man all of a sudden?

Marc: Here’s some questions I had after the episode, so spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet. How could Sam be elected mayor if no less than three people have died in ridiculous circumstances who he happened to employ? Based on previous episodes, we know other vampires had to have drank infected true blood, yet Eric and Bill let everyone out at once, and some people who weren’t anywhere near the sun chamber somehow also fed on Bill. Did they inadvertently cause the outbreak? Did Warlow only turn into an asshole at the end because they needed to kill off the vampire that breaks the world since he’s overpowered? How did Rutger Hauer (Because screw whatever his character name is his name is Rutger Hauer that’s awesome) know to break through the portal at that exact moment if time works differently in the other dimensions? What would have happened if the battle didn’t just happen to take place in the bathroom where that portal is? Why would Alcide agree to go steady with Sookie if in this situation he’s clearly become a Beta with whom she’s settling, and why would Sookie go steady with him if he’s a supernatural being she complains all the time about trying to get away from? Did Sookie just give up all her concerns about one day dying and being forced to confront her parents? If the disease was strong enough to make Eric’s sister (because screw whatever her name was since she was crazy and unremorseful) debilitatingly weak as it killed her, why do these vampires who look like they’re in the later stages of sickness seem to be able to act like normal vampires, and why if she was able to retain her personality do these ones seem like zombies? Why did Sam think pairing humans with vampires is a good idea considering that since true blood isn’t being produced vampires should be going crazy on all sides for blood? Why aren’t vampires on all sides going crazy for blood instead of just sick ones? Is this supposed to be a metaphor for aids (If so that’s pretty offensive)? Why after all that talk about a fairy’s light being used as a weapon would the weapon never be used on a vampire? Why doesn’t Warlow if he’s turned into an asshole not immediately kill all the people in his way instead of strongly pushing them from which they can conveniently recover. Why is there no mention of Jason getting blood on his hands the episode after he says he’s tired of blood on his hands? Why did they let Sarah Newlin go if she’s the (pardon me) biggest most twatlingly annoying character on the show as a one dimensional sociopath with no love behind the hatred for her that runs so deep?

All I can say is that Angry Panda properly expresses my rage. Until next season, Truebies.

f-this-panda

Angry Panda wants to know where Eric is, too!

I don’t understand why you feel the need to critisize a show more amazing than any other one out there! But why ever you do, I don’t think you should. I understand not everybody likes the same thing, but if you hate it, don’t make a blog about it. Ever hear the saying “Thou who dust protest too much”?

WTF is WRONG with people?! May 25, 2014 - 7:42 pm

Yeah, I totally agree, free speech should be suspended and all criticism should be censored if you don’t like this non-sensical, shitty show that started out well but ultimately became a farce.

Breanna, are you insane? Are you so enamoured with Eric’s butt and the vapidness of this awful show that you can’t handle reading ANYTHING contrary to your opinion? You totally contradicted yourself – you said “I understand not everybody likes the same thing” and then followed it up by telling the original poster not to exercise their right to free speech by expressing their opinion about it. This show started out well, and has degenerated into a poorly written piece of crap with plot holes so huge they could swallow the universe. If you can’t handle intelligent blog posts that express an opinion different than yours, get off the internet. In my OPINION, True Blood has turned into a circus, the writers have lost their minds and it should have been cancelled two seasons ago.

You all are idiots if you are cancelling this show! I never get hooked on any series! But True Blood is one I can’t get enough of. Just hope you have a similar show in the works! Because this one is the by far the best I have ever seen!

Haha! speaking of logic if you don’t like it why waste your time watching it and making up a huge blog thing about it and ranting about it? I’m sorry but even True Blood is more logical than you folks! You went to the trouble of finding this so you’re clearly more obsessed than a fan about the show. Not everything has to make sense, most of the world doesn’t but obviously there’s people that like this show (inlcuding myself) or else they would have stopped making it by now. You’re allowed your opinion of course but when you talk of logic? you yourselves have none.

Katie, I greatly appreciate your comments about this post. It is my duty – truly the duty of all of us here at HBO Watch – to discuss episodes, characters, and the happenings of HBO shows, no matter what caliber that episode and/or television show may be. I truly love “True Blood,” but feel that after the third season HBO “jumped the shark,” per se. I have read each Sookie Stackhouse mystery at least three times and found myself sad that things in “True Blood” had veered into a completely opposite direction. Although I consider myself a fan, I don’t view myself as being “more obsessed than a fan about the show.” I do disagree, as I’m sure you expect that I would, but, with the blogging activities and television and movie news that we are constantly juggling, I find it nearly necessary to be an avid fan so I can stay on top of plot lines, characters, and show events.

As I said, I greatly appreciate your comments and hope you will continue to post in the future. Have a wonderful day and a blessed Year!

I think the first 3 seasons have been the best. I miss the simplicity of it all from the earlier seasons when there was just vampires. And I miss Sookie and Bill being together. Alcide is beautiful to look at but Bill just goes right through me…Still can’t wait for the last season though and I’ll be watching 1 – 6 in the new year to keep myself occupied!

Benlow?!?! who is Benlow??? I’m sorry but I have been A TB devoted fan since the very first episode in season 1 till the unfortunately and surprisingly short season 7..I mean come on,,`10 episodes after waiting what felt like a life time to return! and all we got was 10 episodes!,In any case back to my point..Barlow, I am sure that his name was Warlow. Why I am sure? well because he is all we heard about in season 5 and then we finally get to see him in the flesh in Season 6, I am 100% positive..How can you write an article claiming to be such a True Blood fan and trash everything about it, and repeatedly get the name of such an important character as Warlow wrong? True Blood is awesome! I agree that there were some lame moments ..but nobody is perfect ,. not even Vampires. Fairies ,Wolves or Shape shifters LOL Regardless of some shortcomings no one would have stayed true to the show for all 6 seasons if you/they did not enjoy it,and were entertained. How can any one not be!? How can you call yourself a Trubie and discredit almost every aspect of the show , and then to throw more gas to the flame by cheering for the True Death for True Blood . No offense but this is why I stay away from critics.:-(

I do apologize. I should have figured that it, I feel silly now. I was reacting more to all the negative remarks and comments made by the critic. I was raised that if one has nothing good to say then it is better left unsaid. Thank you for clearing that up for me about the Benlow..Ben+ Warlow= Benlow mixup lol. As the famous proverb by Alexander Pope says,” To err is human to forgive is divine”.

Benlow = Ben + Warlow. The show went back and forth with those names for a long time, so I combined them to be one names for Ben/Warlow. I thought this episode was terribly silly and didn’t do much of anything, so that “true death” comment was at this episode. I feel that the show can do – and be – much better, as it was in seasons 1 and 2. The direction that the show has taken is nothing more than silly and stupid. Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks this, as the show only has one more season. I suppose I kept watching in hopes that it would get better, but, like the books, they jumped the shark years ago and that won’t happen. I truly do hope that season 7 will be fantastic and a return to the style of seasons 1 and 2. I simply see that as unlikely.

This season didn’t seem so illogical to me, I was actually surprised that ot made some sense..

To answer some of the questions Marc asked in the review (the way I understood things, maybe I got it wrong):

About the hep-v thingy:
We saw in episode 9 that a truck of infected True Blood was not destroyed and we also saw some vampires throwing themselves at it. This is how I think the hep-v outbreak started. So it’s just like Portugueseprincess said: Nora got injected a huge dose VS the other vampires ingested a smaller dose: when they showed us the factory you could see they put just a squirt in every bottle. Plus it makes sense because to make the virus really dangerous to the vampires outside vampcamp they would have to stay alive and strong long enough to spread it to humans and other vampires. Killing Nora on the other hand was just a way to torture Eric, no need to keep her alive for long.

About Sookie and Alcide being together:
Sookie is stupid and a hypocrite and she just likes to whine and wants to be able to pity herself later on for always being in danger on account of supernatural beings.
Seriously, when has anything Sookie did made any sense ? When she went all “I keep my promises” to Benlow I nearly choked myself with laughter because I can not remember one occasion she actually kept a promise in this show. I guess she just flushed the “bye bye supernaral beings” promise down the toilets. This also explains why she doesn’t seem concerned about dying and seeing her parents anymore. She loves a bit of drama but is actually just a shallow whiny bitch (yeah, I don’t really like Sookie in case you hadn’t noticed..)
Or maybe it’s just that nobody else wanted her. Everybody in town thought she was a lackwit or that she meant trouble so she might not have had a lot of choice in the boyfriend departement.

About “how could Sam have been elected mayor”:
Politics..

About why Sam thinks monogamous feeding relationships are a good idea:
I think the answer to that is in the question, MFR (this shit is too long to write) have the double benefit of preventing hungry vampires from going berserk and killing humans and protecting said humans from berserk hungry zompires infected by hep-v.
Seems pretty smart to me :)

About why Warlow doesn’t kill anybody:
He’s an arrogant asshole who thinks he is so powerful and mighty nobody is a threat to him (they’re all “nuisances”). In his defense, he did kill a god 5000 years ago, would have made me feel pretty indestructible myself..

About how Rutger Hauer knew when to come through the portal:
Fairy power ? Father-son fairy connexion ? (can someone tell me if I got it right and Niall is indeed Benlow’s son to the very pregnant fairy he was with before he had sex with Lilith ?) Seemed a bit farfetched to me but Niall is a royal really old fairy so I guess there’s an explanation somewhere..

Now here are my questions:
Was Benlow supposed to be the first of Lilith progeny ? Because Godric for one was about 3000 years older than him. So how comes nobody knew for sure Lilith was real and not just a mythical creature in season 5 if she was a contemporary of some of the vampires we’ve seen before ?
Could Godric have beaten Benlow ?
Did I just read the dates wrong and it was actually 35 000 BC ? But then why would have Benlow said he waited for Sookie for 5000 years ? My head hurts..
WHERE IS ERIC ? WHERE IS PAM ? WHY IS BILL NOT DEAD YET ??

Reply
Hannah August 29, 2013 - 8:03 am

Oh and I have a theory as to why a drop of Benlow was so powerful and the effects did not dissipate: Takahashi said that as soon as fairy blood is out of its host it starts degrading. This would explain why regular fairy blood has a temporary effect only. However, Benlow was a fairy-vampire hybrid so maybe being immortal stabilized the blood or becoming a vamp made it compatible with other vampires (who could act has surrogate hosts for the light in the blood)

VL Vanderveer August 30, 2013 - 7:25 am

That makes sense. A lot of sense. Why couldn’t the show say that???

Reply
Hannah September 1, 2013 - 1:17 am

My best guess is: for the show to say that, it would have needed a character to know/say it and Bill is the only one who was interested in all these issues..
I think if Bill had known, we would have a very live Benlow and a very dead immortal fairy-vampire bride Sookie by now because Bill was in his “I do things for the greater good” phase and I don’t think he’d have killed Benlow if it meant removing the vampires’ daywalking abilities.
And what could the scenarists possibly do then ?

I love all of this SO much!! But no, Niall is not Benlow’s son. Niall stated in episode 2 or 3 (he was only in, what, 3 this year?) that he saw Benlow kill his parents. :-( And we’re ALL still wondering about your last few questions. I really hope Eric gets to kill Bill, Pam kills Sookie, Jessica and Jason run off happily ever after together, and then Bon Temps disappears into the swamp. Only Lafayette escapes, goes to New Orleans, and makes million as the next Miss (Mister?) Cleo. ;-)

I hope they hire you as a scenarist because all of this sounds reaaal good !
Well I guess it’s for the best that Niall isn’t Benlow’s son seeing as Sookie is Niall’s great great (x10) grand-daughter.. It would have given the show another game of throne’s weird kinda feel to add to Violet’s “you’re my sister let’s make out” logic..

I liked this season. I was only pissed that Sarah didn’t die. I don’t like Alcide with Sookie, it’s an awkward pairing. I really want to see her and Bill together. Eric, we all know he is going to live. I really want him to have a happy ending. Sort of like his maker. They need to not just go back to the community of the show, but the storyline of the books.

Nora was injected with hep v directly into her blood stream , the others orally ingested it, so like any virus it effected Nora not only more quickly but more violently. Perhaps ingesting it orally gave it a chance to dissipate with in the vampires the systems – the problem is…. back in season 1 they explained that contracting hep v was like getting the vampire version of the flu for a few months (and that was from drinking from a human carrier) not turning into the walking dead. Ermmmmm…hope that helps????

VL Vanderveer August 25, 2013 - 7:41 pm

I thought that Hep V was in season 1 and that it wasn’t a big deal. So when it came in this season, it was like deja vu. Maybe it’s now much worse? Or something? But for the vamps to be like, “Uh, hep v, what???” I don’t understand. The continuity of this show is horrible. Thank you for bringing that up, though! Just another thing the showrunners need to work on.

You guys are thinking of Hep D in human blood from season 1, Hep V is the ‘poison’ created to kill vampires.

Reply
VL Vanderveer August 25, 2013 - 8:29 pm

Thank you!! I thought it was V (D and V do sound really similar). Huh. I still wish the evolution of Hep V from fatal to zombies was better explained. When Eric opened the coffin/medical body drawer thing and saw that vamp dying, it looked more like Nora’s death at the hands of Hep V than the mutated ones. Plus I thought Eric destroyed all the Hep V bottles? Or something??? Anyway, thanks Jace14! I could not remember that for anything.

Aw! you’re really welcome! =D I was so confused this season, if Hep V killed Nora, now it’s like created an army for the others, cause of Billith’s blood? Sookie changed so much, suddenly she was all course and reckless. Season 7 better be AMAZING, full of Eric, good jokes, music, sassyness, and a totally new, better storyline. We’ve had a Vamp season, werewolf, witches, fairy, weres, vampire authority, maenad, vampire extermination season. So what will be next?

RSA5 November 1, 2013 - 4:31 am

Some Hep V contaminated TruBlood made it to Honolulu & Eric released every vampire in the facility that had been drinking the contaminated TruBlood while the core group were in the sun room feeding off Billith

“Until next season, Truebies.” You do all that ranting, which I don’t disagree with too much, and you’re still going to watch next season? I’m actually glad to see people quitting the show since they hate everything about it now. If you watch something and you absolutely everything about it, then just stop. I don’t care if they invested the time.

Despite how bad the show may be getting or how inane the plot, we at HBOWatch will continue to provide coverage. It’s what we do and our responsibility to our readers.

They may be bringing Eric back, but if the writers think I want to watch the Sookie and Bill show with a side of Alcide, they’re sadly mistaken. They’ve made all three characters, particularly Sookie and Bill, so utterly annoying that even a whole new team of writers couldn’t fix six years worth of damage. They were on to something in season one. Something special. I don’t know how it spiraled out of control (too many writers, too many egos, whatever), but it fell apart as early as season two. They could have saved seasons three, four, five, and six by listening to the audience and fans by toning down stupid, thinning out the cast, working on continuity, and forgoing the camp for well timed comedy and quality, etc. From the beginning, there should have been three stars on this show. Not 30. THREE with a great supporting (SUPPORTING) cast.

Sorry, but throwing us a bone (literally) didn’t fix it. Hello??!! We’re not that shallow. I will say, smart move keeping Skarsgard for season seven, but the damage is done. I don’t think I can watch it without losing a little self respect.

Just like Charlaine Harris should have gone back and re-read her own damn books before starting a new one, the True Blood writers should have gone back and re-watched previous episodes and taken notes. I don’t know how, but both achieved a fairly intelligent, loyal audience who catch every inconsistency. While a few can be forgiven for the greater good, these were just sloppy and arrogant. I’ll keep HBO because there are some great shows to watch. True Blood just isn’t one of them. And that’s sad.

I don’t understand how shows can away with time inconsistencies, continuity issues, characters changing… Like at the end of season 5, when Jason was talking to his parents. Uh, Sookie’s a telepath. Don’t you think she could have “tuned in” to that? -_-

THANK GOD I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE WHO CAUGHT THAT!!!!!!!!!!! (To borrow a phrase from the Nostalgia Critic) That was one HELL of a “big-lipped alligator moment” HOW did he see their ghosts? How did Sookie NOT notice that he was seeing their ghosts? Even with all the crazy going on, she should have picked up that somethin’s wrong with bubba….again.

When the show takes us 6 months into the future I thought “Hey, maybe now they make it all right and follow the book’s storyline” but was I ever so wrong.. What is this thing about vampirezombies?!?! If they want to ruin the show, of course this is the right way to do it. VAMPIREZOMBIES?! I mean come on.. And yeah it pisses me off that Nora was so weak and this guys are like supervamps all of the sudden, CERO LOGIC!!
I can’t even refer to the possibility of Eric being dead. So I wont.
True Blood was one of the best shows for me, and I watch A LOT of shows. But now, I wouldn’t recomend it to anyone. I would still recomend the books, but the show has become a load of crap. I don’t even know why I continue watching it, I have the hope that it will go back to it’s origins, but I honestly don’t think I can stand another senseless season.

Nick L Lopez August 20, 2013 - 8:03 pm

Actually, they aren’t as weak because the virus has mutated, and that was even stated. Are Hep-V vampires really that big of a stretch after some of the shit we’ve seen? It could of been worse, it could of been the return of Ifrit, that power ranger demon, or the ghost babies.

I was actually hoping for the Fairy War to break out over Benlow, but no. The Fairy War was awesome! I kept my fingers crossed all year with Niall being introduced, but no. He’s such an awesome character in the books and Rutger Hauer is perfect as Niall, yet the show managed to ruin him. This used to be a great show – remember all the awards it win the first few seasons? – and now…. I hate to say it, but I was sad it was renewed for another season. I just the writers listen to the fans and change some things. They won’t, but we can hope.

The show is getting back to it’s one show, one town structure it had the on first season, and is cutting down big time on storylines, so that’s at least one thing he’s doing well at, as well as kind of going back to vampires/humans relations. I personally liked Niall, and don’t agree that the show ruined him yet. As a matter of fact, he’s the only faery I can tolerate. I’m not making excuses for the new guy, but they kind of had to deal with the mess Alan Ball made. They had to deal with this Lilith/Bill BS that the writers didn’t understand, and deal with Warlow, who I think was a failure to begin with. I wrote on another blog that even if Warlow wasn’t a twilight villain, he would of been a laughable one note boogeyman. The season already had too much against it going in at the beginning to make it work.

*Slaps the writer(s) a high five*
Why could Eric walk in the day after Claudine died but not after Be-Low died? Why would Eric be surprised that the benefits of the fairy blood were only temporary? He already knew that since that’s how he tricked Russell in season 3. A vampire doesn’t get to be 1,000 years old by making stupid mistakes.

Reply
Nick L Lopez August 20, 2013 - 7:44 pm

Eric wasn’t smart to be out in the open like that, but Warlow’s blood wasn’t the same as regular faery blood. Warlow’s blood seemed to be permanent, that is until he died, and nobody knew about that effect.

Reply
VL Vanderveer August 21, 2013 - 7:30 pm

Still, that was never really explained. It would have been good to know. And that it made the vamps high. Eric didn’t get high from it, but Pam, Tara, Jess & Co. were all out of their heads.

Reply
Rina February 12, 2014 - 10:23 pm

We inferred that the effect of Warlow’s blood was permanent because Bill drank it and was able to daywalk for days. The show doesn’t need to spell everything out. Of course Eric was high as a kite. He danced his way through Vamp Camp.

VL Vanderveer August 21, 2013 - 8:53 am

I was wondering the same thing all season. Is a drop of Benlow that powerful? It was never explained, which was unfair. I think the issue that keeps coming up is continuity. Eric draining Claudine, Eric handcuffing himself to Russell Edgington after drinking Sookie…. Well, OF COURSE the fairy blood wears off! Anyway, that whole “drop o’ Benlow does you good” attitude this season was so strange.

Reply
Rina February 12, 2014 - 10:20 pm

Eric believed that the effect of Warlow’s blood would be permanent because Bill had been daywalking for days after drinking Warlow’s blood without any sign of the blood wearing off. Bill told Eric the effect was permanent, and Eric believed him.

Based on the Inside The Episode video included in the article, Eric DID die.
The quote by episode 10 writer Scott Winent (starting at 1:30ish in the above posted video): “He is in a very, very vulnerable situation with no ability to hide. He has no choice but to burn and he /does/ burn.”
There is no “if” about it.
Oh sure, Pam could have swept in and saved him. But if that is the case, she would have burned as well. So that isn’t an option either.
With Eric gone, I won’t be tuning in next year. I said that starting with season one and I stand by it.
I’ll come back and rant about how the season totally sucked at a later time as my grief for Eric is palpable at the moment.

VL Vanderveer August 20, 2013 - 11:19 am

Don’t worry – you’re not alone in being ticked that Eric is gone. If he’s really dead, I doubt anyone will be watching next season, past the episode where we find out his fate. Don’t the writers, directors, and producers KNOW that without Eric THERE IS NO SHOW? And Sookie is just so pathetic these days. Please feel free to come back and rant. Tamara, Rochelle, and I are getting together for an end-of-the-season recap/rant soon; I look forward to your comments already! ;-) And thanks for posting!!

The whole franchise is twisted. Harris forgot to read her previous books and then BOTCHED the finale and HBO borrowed Family Guy’s Manatees to write this last season….Honestly, I skipped EVERY scene with the wolf pack and didn’t miss a thing! Seriously, you know a show has too many sub plots when you can skip ten-15 minutes of scene and not lose the whole episode.

Reply
NJ aka Angry Panda #2 August 20, 2013 - 11:29 am

The writer said that he burned, which we saw. He didn’t say that he died or met the true death. Remember that we saw Tara’s brain blown out and she is still around. We saw beehl melt into a puddle of goo and he’s still there, as well.

Reply
VL Vanderveer August 21, 2013 - 8:51 am

You just had to remind of Bill still being around, didn’t you? ;-) Just kidding. But if anyone can survive anything, it’s Eric.

Reply
Abby August 22, 2013 - 6:42 am

I’m not sure what they’re doing with Eric next season (if anything), but I have read that season 7 will largely revolve around the forgiveness and redemption of Bill, you know … everyone’s favorite waaampire. Ooooh, sign me up!! NOT. Even Eric and Lafayette can’t cure that infected plot. Good luck with that Bruckner. Don’t forget the Vombies!

I love Eric, but to be honest I don’t really care if he does return next season, I’m still done with the show. I can follow Alex’s movie career and I would love to see him perhaps get another series along the lines of a Generation Kill again. This show has run it’s course now, and I really don’t care to see another rehash of Bill and Sookie (because we know that’s what’s gonna happen-rolls eyes). Hopefully HBO realizes this show is a lame duck and makes season 7 the end and puts it out of its misery.

Reply
Danyelle Melvin September 12, 2013 - 10:56 am

Generation Kill was the first thing I saw Alexander in. It was really a good mini Series. I’m going to try to stick out the 7th and final season just because I’ve invested so much time into the whole thing and would like to see how they choose to end it. Just like the books, I wasn’t happy with the ending, but I’m not the author.
