HBO is taking its reputation for immersive, richly imagined shows one step further this spring, and bringing attendees of the film, music, and media festival South by Southwest aka SXSW the chance to experience Westworld for themselves in far more intimate way than simply from the comfort of their living rooms, via an “interactive experience” that with will run from March 9th to 11th. It’s an ambitious way to promote Westworld‘s second season which is coming soon, and at first glance, it begs the question, how? The HBO show’s Westworld is an expansive western-themed amusement park populated by state of the art, secretly sentient robots, or “hosts,” who are mainly utilized by guests to explore their darker sides without any consequence…not exactly something which translates into real life very well, whether from a technological stand-point or a moral one.

HBO has the answers, and apparently has prepared a more tame, less technologically advanced, if still extravagant experience for SXSW’s attendees. According to a recent press release, HBO plans to erect an entire Westworld-themed replica town, which will allow visitors the chance to experience locations and sets from Season One in person. The entire experience is supposed to last two hours, and not only will guests get to explore areas of interest, but HBO will also apparently provide “hosts,” for attendees to interact with, western-themed treats for them to sample, and other enigmatic “personalized elements,” including it seems, like in the real park, a white or black hat upon entry. My, my.

If you plan to be at SXSW, and this looks like something you’d be interested in, you can make a reservation for the interactive experience here.

SXSW will also feature a panel by Westworld‘s creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and an impressive line-up of the show’s main cast, including, but not limited to Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores Abernathy), and Jeffrey Wright (Bernard Lowe).

Westworld premieres April 22nd. Check out our write-up of the trailer if you haven’t already.

Westworld is one of my favorite series. Yeah this is a good way to promote the next season.
