If you decided to follow the story of the Roy family and their big global company Sunday nights at 10:00 ET, you’ll be happy to know that SUCCESSION has already signed up for a sophomore season.

Here is the news straight from an HBO press release –Succession_RoyFamily-300x168

Following the show’s recent premiere, HBO has renewed the drama series SUCCESSION for a second season, it was announced by Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming.

Created by Oscar and WGA nominee Jesse Armstrong (“In the Loop”), with the pilot written by Armstrong and directed by Oscar-winner Adam McKay (“The Big Short”), SUCCESSION launched its ten-episode season June 3. The show follows the Roy family – Logan Roy and his four children – which controls one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world, tracking their lives as they contemplate what the future will hold for them once their aging father begins to step back from the company.

The season one cast includes Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Hiam Abbass, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Natalie Gold, Peter Friedman and Rob Yang.

Among the early critical praise for the first season, the Wall Street Journal has hailed the show as a “scintillating drama,” as well as “irresistible entertainment” and a “ferociously satiric series,” while the Los Angeles Times termed it “sharply written” and “expertly played.” The New Yorker called SUCCESSION “irresistible,” and the Hollywood Reporter described it as “coolly entertaining and sharply acted,” with “performances to relish and dialogue to savor.”

HBOWatch, of course, is keeping track of it. In the series premiere that on his 80th birthday, media magnate Logan Roy, whose imminent retirement was thought to be a given, shocks his family by announcing he’s staying on indefinitely as CEO of Waystar/Royco. Each child thought they had a chance of taking over. Now perhaps, we will not see who succeeds Logan Roy until the second season. Keeping checking in with us as the story unfolds.
