HBO films will co-produce with BBC Two a new movie based on the tremulous life of Alfred Hitchcock focusing on the relationship between the director and his obsessive relationship with The Birds‘ star Tippi Herden. Toby Jones will play Mr Hitchcock.
Alfred Hitchcock was a wildly sucessful director in 1962 when he chose an unknown model to star in The Birds. He was often close with his blonde female leads but in the case of Tippi Herden the relationship took a dark, obsessive turn. His inablity to cope arguably destroyed both of their careers. Writer Gweyneth Hughes had this to say about the project: “It’s been the most enormous privilege to talk at length to Tippi Hedren, the last ‘Hitchcock blonde’ in the life of Britain’s most original and successful film director. At the time, in the early 1960s, the American star suffered in silence. But now, at the age of 81, her wisdom and insights have helped me to put her real life ordeal on to the screen.”
Toby Jones sure looks like he could play Alfred Hitchcock to us:

Phillip Seymor Hoffman or John Goodman seem a better choice. Toby is a good actor but he’s too little and doesn’t project a powerful figure like Hitchcock had.
