Over the past year or so, HBO has lost some of its big comedy titles, with THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES soon to be added to that list. So, the network is out to fill that gap with new talent and new shows. There are a few concepts in the works, including something from Rachel Sennott, but we now learn that Sharon Horgan is working towards a potential show as well. A press release announces –
HBO has signed a two-year first-look television deal with BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated actor, writer, and producer Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters, Catastrophe) and her multi award-winning production company Merman, which began this month. HBO has also given a straight-to-series order for a new original comedy series, the first project under this deal, from Horgan and produced by Merman, with Horgan serving as writer, star, and executive producer.
Around here, we know her as the creator & executive producer of HBO’s DIVORCE, which ran for three seasons with Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church. While that show gave a wry look at a couple in the midst of divorce, the new work focuses on a divorcee’s search for what’s next. The description reads:
This comedy series from Sharon Horgan follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown-up son.
Perhaps this will be another comedic series that clicks for the brand. Horgan had nothing but praise for HBO and this opportunity. She said, “I’m so happy to once again be working with Casey, Amy, Francesca and the team at HBO, and really excited that Merman get to continue to tell stories for a company that’s been home to some of the most iconic television shows ever created.”
