Presidents: they’re just like us!
The Leader of the Free World has myriad responsibilities. The events of the day weigh heavily on his mind. So it comes as no suprise that, like most of you reading this premium television blog, the man needs a respite from the troubles piling up on his desk.
The New York Times is reporting that Obama is into just about any show that’s edgy with hints of reality in them. That describes most of HBO’s dramatic lineup! Specifically, friends of the president say that he’s watching Game of Thrones and as we’ve previously reported: Boardwalk Empire.
Could you picture Barack Obama’s reaction as Daenerys Targaryen emerges from the flames, naked, holding (spoiler) three new baby dragons? Damn.
Obama also frequently refers to HBO’s The Wire as one of “the greatest shows of all time”. From the NYT piece:
David Simon, the show’s creator, said in an interview that he wonders whether Mr. Obama was drawn to the show because it dealt so directly with the issues of social and economic strife.
“The idea that a child may never be able to escape that poverty because she lacks a decent education or health care, or a community that views her future as their own,” Mr. Obama said, “that should offend all of us and it should compel us to action. We are a better country than this.”
The president didn’t limit himself to the Home Box Office either. He’s also mentioned House of Cards, Mad Men, Homeland, and even Downton Abbey in the past. Hey, at least he has good taste! Those are some great dramas, right there.
