We have always eagerly awaited each installment in the TRUE DETECTIVE franchise. As we already know, the latest iteration has taken a departure from the norm but still feels very much a part of the franchise first crafted by Nick Pizzolatto. We have already informed you of the main cast, which includes Jody Foster & Kali Reis, its unique locale, and the current season’s showrunner, Issa López. To that information, we can now add a First Look Teaser. By viewing the following 1:58, we too become detectives as we begin to piece together what the actions, tone, and feel of TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY turns out to be like.

Yes, I absorbed that clip three times and I’m all in. Just like the rest of the series, this is a uniquely different situation but still strongly identifies as a TRUE TrueDetective4_TitleDETECTIVE piece. First, there’s the locale. No, we are not in some backwater hole-in-the-wall or even in an urban underbelly landscape. Where we find ourselves is in the raw, dark, cold frontier of Alaska and just in time for a month or so of darkness; that’s what happens above the Arctic Circle. Just the right time for something sinister to happen, right? I mean, if anyone steps away from the town danger is close at hand. Hypothermia, polar bears, thin ice, crags, and snow squalls could take a life. But for these detectives, it would take two hands to count the number of lost persons. Accidents or murder?

Plus, we have two tough-as-nails detectives on the case, and these two, played by Foster and Reis, don’t like each other. Now, seeing Jodie Foster in this? Come on, I don’t care how badly she might have missed working but she is not going to take on just any project, she is not going to take on just any character. There must be substance here to get her to sign on. I believe you can see it in what was shown here.

But that’s not all I took away from the video clip. There is some deep mystery afoot and that feeling more than anything takes me back to Season One. That and this image –

Just sayin’ but, is that just some Inuit tribal iconography OR is that a symbol that harkens back to Season One? And if, and I’m saying if, it reflects back to the cult patterns from Hart & Cohle’s big case is the Yellow King far behind? That would totally trip us out, would it not? And wouldn’t Jodie Foster be wise enough to see that a link to the first season, other than just by title, would be a shrewd, bold move on her part? Now, we really can’t wait for TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY. And even, if I prove wrong it still looks like a solid entry.

The press release attached to the teaser encapsulates what we have reported. It reads –
