Australian actress Nicole Kidman has a project entitled RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA that she wants to develop for HBO. She will star in and produce an adaptation of a Kimberly McCreight novel of the same name. The book was just published in April from Harper-Collins to rave reviews and evidently caught the attention of Kidman.
One of the simple descriptions of the plot states that “a workaholic single mother (assumedly Kidman) who, after her teenage daughter’s apparent suicide at her tony Brooklyn private school, attempts to reconstruct the events leading up to the girl’s death and learns she may not have taken her own life at all.” From that description we can imagine an emotional film as the mother solves the riddle of her child’s death and reconstruct the life of the daughter she thought she knew at the same time.
It is also safe to say that Nicole Kidman must have liked her experience in filming HBO Films: HEMINGWAY AND GELLHORN for the network since she returns to HBO with her production company Blossom Films. This idea just got sold so a writer and director are not even in place yet. As always HBOWatch will keep an eye on this project as well. And we look forward to Kidman’s future involvement with HBO.
