Movies_Weapons-posterAnother good movie hit the lineup recently. Has anyone seen WEAPONS? It is a horror film directed, written, produced, and co-scored by Zach Cregger. It was released in theaters in the United States on August 8, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It arrived on HBO on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, and on HBO Max the night prior. It clocks in at 128 minutes, and critics seem to think it’s a good scare.

You might recognize Cregger from his other jobs. He is a founding member of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know and starred in the sitcoms Friends with Benefits, Guys with Kids, and Wrecked. It was for his movie debut, 2022’s Barbarian, that he became a writer/director. WEAPONS is now his second movie. He is said to be diving into the Resident Evil franchise next.

You can sort of tell that viewers liked his film, as he got some pretty big names to take roles in this one. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. The adults in the story try to solve the mystery of why seventeen children from the same classroom mysteriously ran away on the same night at the same time.

Movies_Weapons-Pic1-300x166It is all set up as follows: In the town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania, seventeen children from a third-grade classroom unexpectedly ran out of their homes at 2:17 a.m. and disappeared; only one student, Alex Lilly (Days of Our Lives‘ Christopher), remained. Their teacher, Justine Gandy (Ozarks’ Gardner), is placed on leave amid suspicion that she is responsible for the disappearances, resulting in her relapsing into alcoholism and having an affair with her married ex-boyfriend, police officer Paul Morgan (Cocaine Bear‘s Ehrenreich). Archer Graff, a father of one of the missing boys, is dissatisfied with the investigation and takes it on himself to find the answers and his son. That is how Brolin makes it into the story. Madigan factors in as the elderly aunt of young Alex, and she creepily knows more than she is telling, of course.

I daren’t give anything away if you haven’t seen it. Just know that the missing children are weapons used to do someone’s bidding, and it is all for pure evil. Will Archer, Justine, and Paul discover the truth and disarm the children?

It has been proven that Creggers was once again effective in frightening viewers. Check it out on HBO & HBO Max.
