HBOWatch Editors were not able to line-up a writer to review the comedy PITCH PERFECT 3 but that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to draw your attention to it. Believe it or not the Pitch Perfect movie franchise has done well. Most sequels as they continue on dwindle in numbers but this trio of movies held strong. Before we give you a sense of the third film let’s look at those numbers.

Pitch Perfect from 2012 hit well at $115M and Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 saw a gross of $287M and 2017’s PITCH PERFECT 3 took in $184M. The franchise is based on 00Mickey Rapkin’s non-fiction book “Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate a Cappella Glory.” Rapkin spent a season covering competitive collegiate a cappella and the fierce competitive characters have taken their story into a third picture.

Movies_PitchPerfect3_pic1-300x154In PITCH PERFECT 3 it is three years after the second film. The Bellas find themselves split apart and struggling with their real-life jobs after graduating from college. However, after a brief reunion, Aubrey comes up with an idea to perform for the USO tour, which will reunite them for a series of shows. The Bellas go overseas for the USO where they find out that they are actually competing with other bands on tour to be the opening act for DJ Khaled. So, it is game on once again for these gals. The cast includes Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld, Hana Mae Lee, Ester Dean, Chrissie Fit, Alexis Knapp, John Lithgow, Matt Lanter, Ruby Rose, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, Elizabeth Banks, John Michael Higgins and DJ Khaled as himself.

The music performed is a total of nineteen songs in the ninety-three minute movie. Bellas and others sing songs like Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” Flo Rida’s “I Don’t Like It, I Love it,” George Michael’s “Freedom 90” and the classic standard “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”

So, those who love to sing along to the a cappella battles, here is another chance. For those who have followed the franchise and need to complete it with the third one, here you go. I don’t think, however, you are going to care if you haven’t seen the other two movies. Owen Gleiberman of Variety said, “as directed by Trish Sie, the movie is bubbly, it’s fast, it’s hella synthetic-clever, and it’s an avid showcase for the personalities of its stars.” The Hollywood Reporter, however, stated, “… what started out as a charmingly offbeat comic premise has inevitably degenerated into the sort of crass commercialism that probably would make the Bellas themselves turn up their noses.”

As always we cite Rotten Tomatoes and about PITCH PERFECT 3 it declares the following:
