HBOWatch Editors were not able to line-up a writer to review FOCUS starring Will Smith, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to draw your attention to this R-rated crime comedy playing on HBO. FOCUS premieres on Saturday, 10.10 at 8:00pm and will air the following dates on the main channel: 10.10 at 11:35pm; 10.11 at 07:10pm; 10.13 at 9:00pm; and 10.14 at 2:50am. Plus it runs on HBO Comedy and HBO Signature as well as on HBONow/Go.
In FOCUS Nicky (Will Smith), a veteran con artist, takes a novice named Jess (Margot Robbie) under his wing. While Nicky teaches Jess the tricks of the trade, the pair become romantically involved; but, when Jess gets uncomfortably close, Nicky ends their relationship. Three years later, Nicky is in Buenos Aires working a very dangerous scheme when Jess — now an accomplished femme fatale — unexpectedly shows up. Her appearance throws Nicky for a loop at a time when he cannot afford to be off his game. The 1 hour 44 minute movie also stars Gerald McRaney, Rodrigio Santoro; BD Wong (of HBO’s OZ) and Adrian Martinez. Here is a tease.
The tagline is Never Lose Focus and evidently Smith does at the most inopportune time. Will you be able to focus on this movie when it hits the channel? Let us know in the comments below. Here is what Rotten Tomatoes had to say:
Metacritic gave it a 56 out of 100 and IMDB gave it a 6.6. It took a team of two to write and direct the film and they are Glenn Ficarra and John Requa who shot it in New Orleans, Las Vegas and Buenos Aires. Were our writers wise not to cover this film? Are you intrigued? Again weigh in with what you think of Will Smith & Margot Robbie. DO they have chemistry there or not? If your game for finding out get your eyes focused on FOCUS. Now here is a trailer.
