The date we are given is SATURDAY, MAY 26 at 10:00pm. (ET/PT). On that night we will get to see another HBO Films presentation. We reported back in February that HBO had obtained the rights to air the independent film that was a hit at the latest Sundance Festival. It is THE TALE starring Laura Dern.

THE TALE follows Jennifer (Laura Dern) as she faces life-altering questions when a short story she wrote for school at age 13 forces her to re-examine her first sexual relationship – and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive. The film is based on award-winning writer-director Jennifer Fox’s own true story. THE TALE also stars Isabelle Nélisse, Elizabeth Debicki, Jason Ritter, Frances Conroy, John Heard, with Common and Ellen Burstyn.

We now have a Teaser Trailer for the piece:

That is, without question, a tease at a quick fifteen seconds. This timely tale though resonated at Sundance as writer/director Jennifer Fox retells of the sexual relationship she had when she was young; it was with her 40-year old running coach. Laura Dern and Isabelle Nélisse play Fox at different ages.

During Sundance, it might have been expected that THE TALE would be bought for a cinematic run due to its red-hot subject matter in the age of calling out sex harassment & assault cases and #MeToo & #TimesUp movements, but the pay-cabler snatched it up instead. Perhaps it is not only due to the timely issue, but to the fact that Laura Dern has good HBO presence with ENLIGHTENED and PRETTY LITTLE LIES to her credit.  HBO is hitting strong with its HBO Films as of late. We have already seen NOTES FROM THE FIELD and PATERNO this year and forthcoming in May is both this work and FARHENHEIT 451. Are you interested in HBO Films: THE TALE?
