Okay, we know that many of you might prefer that the above title read “Maisie Williams Might Return in a GAME OF THRONES Project” but, quite frankly, the recently dropped news about a potential Williams/Martin collaboration like that isn’t a guarantee. Let’s look at the facts.
R.R. Martin’s latest posting on his blog, on 11.10.24, had him reminiscing about his summer vacation. One stop was to London, England, and on his itinerary was a sitdown with GAME OF THRONES actress Maisie Williams, who is British. Only two sentences were generated and shared via the posting regarding –
“We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. But it could be so much fun.”
And then, the internet lit up with talk of the two planning a sequel series to GoT for her character Arya Stark. That could be quite awesome, but remember the Jon Snow series never happened; could they be with an Arya series instead?
How about something completely different? Under Martin’s auspices is an anthology book set called “Dangerous Women” and in one of them is a Martin-penned piece called “The Princess and the Queen.” It takes place in the milieu but in a totally different era with a different character. Maybe, he hopes to place Williams in a cinematic telling of that story. There are a whole slew of collections of short stories and such from him that could be fleshed out for Williams that is not GoT related too. How about a Wild Cards tale? I’m not familiar with it, but from those works, they could be one strong female character for Maisie. Granted, to be fair, the project would have a better chance of being greenlit by HBO (we don’t even know if it is a WBD project) if it were GoT-related.
The point is, the internet once again jumped on something so minute with no details, let alone strong ones, and jumped straight to the ultimate wish. In this case, it is for ‘Arya-Lady Assassin.”
