It is happening at a snail’s pace, but another season of TRUE DETECTIVE is slowly coming around. Though nothing is definite at this time it appears that Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) has been approached to be a lead. Now we don’t know if Ali walked into HBO asking, as he has appeared on HBO before as a small character in Season 2 & 3 of TREME, or whether he was actually approached by HBO and/or show creator Nic Pizzolatto.
If a named star, like Mahershala Ali, was attached that just might rush the production along a bit faster. We have been waiting for a while for the series to come back around. As we know, David Milch (HBO’s DEADWOOD, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI and LUCK) has teamed with Pizzolatto to complete the script. It seems a concept has been devised and we all hope it will be as convoluted and intriguing as the show’s first season. We also hope for compelling & conflicted characters as well. If Ali truly stays on board and waits out the process we hope we will have another strong character to enjoy. As a lead will he play a cool calculating bad guy or be a hot-headed lead detective? Too soon to say, but you can always speculate. But he’d join a good list of performers in the anthology series. Who could forget Matthew McConaughey as Detective Rustin “Rust” Cohle, Woody Harrelson as Detective Martin “Marty” Hart, Michelle Monaghan as Maggie Hart, Michael Potts as Detective Maynard Gilbough, Tory Kittles as Detective Thomas Papania, Colin Farrell as Detective Raymond “Ray” Velcoro, Rachel McAdams as Detective Sergeant Antigone “Ani” Bezzerides, Taylor Kitsch as Officer Paul Woodrugh, Vince Vaughn as Francis “Frank” Semyon and others.
As fans, we are grateful for a little bit of TRUE DETECTIVE news and think Mahershala Ali will be a great fit regardless of which side of the law his character will be on. Do you like this possibility?
