nolte-horse-luck-cancelled-300x199HBO has suspended filming on the second season of Luck, a horse racing drama starring Nick Nolte and Dustin Hoffman.  Earlier this year HBO took heat after two horses died in the filming of the first season.  Officials were on scene to monitor the treatment of the horses and the incident was classified as a tragic accident.

But now, one more horse has died of a traumatic head injury during the filming of Luck’s second season.  According to a report from Boston.com, the horse died on it’s way to the stall and had previously been cleared for use American Humane Association.  The horse was euthanized at the track in suburban Arcadia.

We’re saddened by the tragic deaths of these beautiful animals but are also concerned about the future of HBO’s new series, Luck.  Season 2 should continue filming soon after these incidents are fully investigated.  We hope officials can find a way to film these horses without endangering them.  HBO has said in the past that they are doing all they believe possible to ensure that this happens.  More when we get it.

It sounds like the horse deaths were pure accidents that go along with just the handling of the horses. No idea why HBO would be taking any heat over this.

Luck is an excellent show and I think it’s ridiculous that they are shutting the show down every time a horse dies yet the sport is still around. I counted 140+ horse deaths last year in horse racing accidents. I agree that our entertainment is not worth and animal being abused or injured. Luck is bringing to light the dangers and abuse that happens in the equestrian sports. We need to look into the bigger problem in stead of silencing the messager. If horse racing remains legal, Luck should remain filming.

LUCK had a superb cast and great writing. Shame HBO can spend millions of specials and movies yet can’t keep this show going? I believe there must be salary issues or something because powerful HBO doesn’t knuckle under just because two old race horses died while filming the show. This was one of the best productions and I’m disappointed HBO can’t resolve the animal issues to continue with this great show.

Luck is the best Tv show you’ve had in a long time. with partnership in the horseracing world, which is a big bisuness. I was hoping to see the two intertwine. you should truly continue this series. It could be one of your most profitable shows in the history of HBO. Horses die DAILY on the racetrack. Every day, it’s a part of the sport, and if you are filming races, you HAVE to figure this to happen. It’s a part of the game. nobody likes it. NOBODY. But it’s just what happens. Luck/santa anita park could have had a huge relationship. and even if the numbers were low at first, i know for a fact that it would have picked up. I have made almost a million in the sport, and i am a poker champion. I have lived more stories, and seen more things, than you could ever imagine. Call me up. I can guarantee me personally could take luck to the top.

That is some sad news!; mostly because of the lost horses than the hampering of production. Sorry, HBO.

I am speculating that all the deaths are happening right on the racetrack. There is certainly more hardware out there than the horses are used to seeing. Extra light instuments cameras whether on dollys, trucks or ziplines overhead might be scaring these animals and causing them to be unpredictable and causing injury and worse.

I hope the investigation is through and that LUCK has a better “track record” in the future with their equine co-stars.

I really hope they get this under control. I mean I love the action shots but if it’d save a few horses (and the series) to take it down a notch I say do it!

Whatever needs doing to ensure the safety of the animals and the continuing of the show – even if it means doing away with elaborate action/racing sequences (good as they might be)!
