BROTHERS IN ATLANTA had spent a long time in development, but has just been given a series order. HBOWatch had been eyeing this project since 2013 with Lorne Michaels attached to produce the series created and starring Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin. Joining Diallo/Bashir in the series is Maya Rudolph. Check out the link right here and you will be able to go back to the previously mentioned posts we have archived.
The creative team had a development deal for a while and pitched an earlier show, also taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, but it was rejected. Riddle/Salahuddin retooled their idea and HBO liked the new version. Upon seeing the pilot episode it now has been granted series status. Its basic premise takes us to the heart of Atlanta with characters Langston and Moose played by Riddle & Salahuddin respectively. Langston is a DJ and Moose is a backup singer for hire so the series will look into the music scene of the Peach State city and, of course, explore the lives and loves of these guys. Jaden Smith plays a rowdy neighbor of Langston and Rudolph personifies Moose’s boss.
BROTHERS IN ATLANTA will be produced by Lorne Michaels (pictured) of Saturday Night Live fame and his first series for the network. The pilot was directed by Tim Story and he will likely direct all or most of the series. He is a prolific director whose works include the Ride Along and Barbershop movies. There is no word yet on how many episodes have been ordered or when the show will premiere, but they got all summer to film in Atlanta and something does need to replace LOOKING in January of 2016. It could be BROTHERS FROM ATLANTA. Again, research the show and let us know if you think this ethnic comedy from the heart of the south holds interest or, maybe, it is just too soon to tell?
