HBO’s youngest starlet will host one of television’s most prolific comedy sketch programs: Saturday Night Live! NBC made the announcement this morning that Lena Dunham will hose SNL for the first time on Match 8th.
Dunham responded with a (you guessed it) tweet on the matter saying:
Thank you for the SNL love. Dream come true. Can’t wait to debut my character “girl who googled serial killers all night & has lots to say”!

And SNL:
Excited to announce @lenadunham will make her #SNL hosting debut next week with musical guest, @The_National!! #March8

We know how great she is reading her own lines but how will she perform when it’s someone else writing and directing? We’re sure she’ll do fine as she seems to be comfortable in almost any situation. Vogue cover (the shoot from which the above image was taken!), awards and now Saturday Night Live. Is there anything Lena can’t do?
This is the first time that an actor from an in-production HBO series has hosted Saturday Night Live since Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) did so in December of 2011. And before that, it hadn’t been done since March of 2011 when Zach Galifianakis (Bored to Death) hosted. Prior to that, it hadn’t been done until March 2010, when Galifianakis again hosted.
SNL actually had a very funny parody of GIRLS a while back so check that out if you haven’t seen it already. We hope Blerta comes back!
We wish you Good Luck, Ms. Dunham and we’ll be watching!

I’ll pretty much watch anything with Lena Dunham, so….
I don’t watch SNL, but I’ll certainly watch the Lena episode! I LOVE her!
