Kate Winslet’s storied career is filled with performances that have flabbergasted audiences, critics, and fellow actors/actresses. Her filmography has garnered Academy Award and Emmy Award nominations, winning said awards for THE READER and MILDRED PIERCE & MARE OF EASTTOWN respectively. Likewise, Winslet is effective behind the camera. She has executive produced MARE OF EASTTOWN and the upcoming miniseries THE REGIME (fka THE PALACE). The latter series explores a year within the palace of a crumbling authoritarian regime.
THE REGIME’S episodes with be directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs, who have correspondingly helmed THE QUEEN and THE CROWN. It is created by Will Tracy, and written by Will Tracy with the screenplay by Will Tracy, Seth Reiss, Juli Weiner, Jen Spyra, Gary Shteyngart and Sarah DeLappe. Tracy is a writer and co-Executive Producer on SUCCESSION in its third and fourth seasons. Tracy’s feature-length credits include THE MENU, an acclaimed dark comedy about a mysterious chef that terrorizes his patrons.
Kate Winslet’s supporting cast includes Hugh Grant and Matthias Schoenaerts. With a mostly European cast, THE REGIME is simultaneously familiar and obscure territory of Will Tracy. SUCCESSION deals with the personal and business woes of a billionaire American family. THE REGIME is stated to take place within the walls of an authoritarian government’s palace. The HBO and BBC collaboration YEARS AND YEARS was a fictional take on an authoritarian UK that took place over nearly two decades into the future. No further information is currently available for THE REGIME, however, the trailer suggests that the country is fictitious and the accents of the talent involved seemingly generate a Euro accent that is intentionally hard to discern.
This limited series has much potential due to the talent involved. Do the credentials of this cast and crew entice you to look forward to THE REGIME?
