Hold on to your hats Daily Show fans, Jon Stewart is following Mr. Oliver’s lead and coming to HBO! Multiple outlets are reporting on the news saying:”The first project under the HBO pact involves Stewart working with cloud graphics company OTOY Inc. on what is described as a new technology to allow him to produce “timely” short-form video content to be featured on HBO Now, the newly launched stand-alone broadband service, multiple times a day.”

Funny enough, Jon Stewart was on HBO 20 years ago and they’re happy to have him back today, in his prime.

“Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the ‘Daily Show,’” said Michael Lombardo, HBO’s president of original programming. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.”

Stewart was disenchanted with the nightly news format that required him to be “on” almost thirty minutes every weeknight.

“Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again,” Stewart said.

No, this isn’t a sick and twisted April Fool’s joke. Stewart is coming to HBO and HBO Now. Let’s hope the content makes it to actual TV as well.  Welcome, Jon! We’re happy you’re part of the expanding news offerings on the Home Box Office.

The deal reportedly includes a “first look” agreement where HBO will get to see anything Stewart produces first and jump on it. It’s thought to be a four year contract so we’ll see Stewart on HBO for some time.
