It’s Official: TRUE DETECTIVE Season Three a Go!

We thought that once Mahershala Ali showed interest in TRUE DETECTIVE that everything would align and a Season Three would materialize. HBO has now officially confirmed that such is the case. A few other details, beyond the green light, have come forth as well.

— As you recall David Milch had been called in to assist creator/writer/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto to shape and write the series. Mr. Milch has been credited with writing the fourth episode with the show’s creator penning the rest.

— For the first time Pizzolatto will take the director’s chair for an undetermined number of episodes. Joining him at the task will be Jeremy Saulnier. It is unknown at this time if other directors will be added.

— Executive producers include Pizzolatto, Saulnier, Scott Stephens and Season One stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as well as original director Cary Joji Fukunaga.

People_NicPizzolatto02-300x220— It is undetermined at this time the number of episodes for Season Three, but the first two seasons ran eight episodes each. Nothing has been stated, but we hope the style of the opening credits and the theme music keeps in line with the previous seasons.

— A bit of a premise, however, has been revealed. Season Three of TRUE DETECTIVE will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. The top detective on the case will be Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. That role belongs to Ali. No other characters or actors have been named as of yet.

Nic Pizzolatto (pictured) is eager to work with the team to get the season to the screen, though it is way too early to determine when that will be. He stated – “I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy. I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”

Are you excited to embark on another case? Will you join Detective Hays in the backwoods of the Ozark Mountains and piece together the clues and hunt down the suspects? Trust us, we will keep a close watch out for the next story from TRUE DETECTIVE.
