The Stephen King inspired series IT: WELCOME TO DERRY was indeed on the fast track for HBO and is set to arrive this fall. It looks like it could be a great lead-in to the Halloween season. An official press release offers us some scant details and a Teaser establishing just what is in store.

If you haven’t read Stephen King’s 1986 horror tome “IT” or seen the movies that have sprung from that source, then you might be a bit clueless. This work pulls directly from that material and is created by the team behind the latest movie It and It: Chapter II, led by Andy Muschietti. Here are the given details:

HBO has released the official teaser for IT: WELCOME TO DERRY, from Warner Bros. Television, debuting this fall. The drama series is developed for television by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (“IT,” “IT Chapter Two,” “The Flash”) and Jason Fuchs (“IT Chapter Two,” “Wonder Woman,” “Argylle”), will debut on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes of the original series.

Logline: Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.”

Cast: Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård.

Credits: Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, developed for television by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on the novel “It” by Stephen King. Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (through their Double Dream production company), Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin are executive producers. Fuchs, who wrote the teleplay for the first episode, and Kane serve as co-showrunners on the project.

I’m sure we don’t have to remind King fans of what this series entails. But, just in case there are those who need a bit more of a description than what the presser provides this show is about the evil presence of a  malevolent entity who preys upon children. Thus, this presence, which is also known as IT, and Eater of Worlds, appears as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. It is the clown appearance that enables the entity to get close to children and it has been practicing his demonic devouring over the decades in the quaint Maine village of Derry. As the above clip shows, this series will take a look at an earlier visit to Derry than seen in the movies. The IT entity has been plaguing the town over the years and we see the impact his presence makes on the town in 1962 when it makes to to HBO audiences later this year.

This series, which will run for nine episodes with Muschietti directing a few of them, is not to be confused with the Hulu series Castle Rock which ran for two seasons. That series generated personas and places from different parts of King’s canon, where HBO IT: WELCOME TO DERRY specifically stays with the world of the demonic clown. This fall we will be welcomed to Derry. Are you brave enough to visit?

Look to HBOWatch for more details including a full trailer in the months ahead. WELCOME TO DERRY!
