In one month, the fantasy drama His Dark Materials will return to HBO for its second season. Produced by BBC and distributed internationally by HBO, this television adaptation of Phillip Pullman’s book series features a star-studded cast and some magical critters. The show follows the adventures of a young girl named Lyra (Dafne Keen). Deadline has some tantalizing hints of what we can expect from Season Two:

The second season begins after Lord Asriel has opened a bridge to a new world, and Lyra, distraught over the death of her best friend, follows Asriel into the unknown. In a strange and mysterious abandoned city, she meets Will, a boy from our world who also is running from a troubled past.

Worlds colliding, new friends, mysterious cities– what’s not to love? The cast of His Dark Materials recently attended the San Diego Comic-Con which was held virtually this year due to the pandemic. HBO’s summary of the event suggest a wholesome theme for the second season:

Panelists hinted that this upcoming season is all about that trust: the kind that exists between the characters and the trust they have in themselves as they each embark on their own journeys

If that piqued your interest, mark your calendars for Season Two’s premiere on November 16 at 9 PM. For those who haven’t yet had time to watch the first season of His Dark Materials, HBO is currently allowing viewers to stream the series premier free of charge.  If you’re new to His Dark Materials, now is a great time to catch up with the events of Season One before Season Two airs later this fall.
